I got some pictures on my lodestone, pink gear is on par with HQ gear, i like HQ better cause i can customize what stats i put on it with materia. The looks of it is you can ether run dungeons for good gear or craft good gear!

Ultimately though, if the stats are roughly equal, the crafted gear will be better because it has materia slots.

Thanks for the pics. Comparing your body piece to aetherial pieces online it looks like the base stats are the same. Apparently the aetherial has the possibility to spawn with additional bonuses, though like Callinon said the materia slots even the field a bit.

Well with a few exceptions. For 1-44 this might be true, but 45+ its AF gear, Darklight gear, Relic gear. Nothing crafted compares to these 3 sets so high end crafters get the shaft until they start adding higher ilevel gear for crafters.

Good to know. My highest craft is 33 so I haven't been able to do some serious gear yet. Hopefully they add higher level stuff soon so crafters have a fighting chance.

Challenge accepted lol, but you dont think gear with materia V in it wont be up to snuff with AF gear? I haven gotten that far but we will see, ill give it a try!

Makes me really happy I leveled goldsmith, because I am hating the high level dungeons with a passion.

You can craft better than AF. Up to item level 70 stuff I think. Which is darklight gear range. Plus you can HQ & add materia to those. The demand may not be there for all players since many would farm darklight > AF2 & relics. Can make it for yourself and sell to those who don't care for all that dungeon farming though.

It won't, especially not for tanks. Despite what some shouting-off-at-the-mouth types think DEF is actually really well coded into this game and you notice differences with just a few more points here and there, and that helps survivability more than anything else.

Pimped out HQ gear is roughly equal or slightly subpar for most other classes. The problem that you're thinking with tier V materia is that yes, tier V is really nice stats. However, each piece of gear already has a limitation built-in due to their stated item level and what stats are already on the gear. So while you could probably craft say an iLVL 90 body piece that has slightly inferior stats but has the option of materia... is really mostly inferior because you can't really push the existing stats that are on the gear very much (if at all) due to those limitations. Pimped out materia is greater for generating and all around great piece of gear that's got a little something of everything.

Ah so this is why when you try and meld materia you sometimes get the "Item not strong enough to use materia to it's potential" message; the stat is maxed out already so adding more will be useless.

I see what your saying, do you think that same stat cap applys for relics and af gear and droped gear, or will there be items that have a huge stat bonus on it that go passed the stat cap of same level crafed gear? Lets say a bad *** item has an ilvl of 90 and a crafted item has an ilvl 90, wouldn the crafted gear be able to reach the same stats as the bad *** item since they are both ilvl 90?

Some of the stuff's available at the markets on my legacy server. Some or most of that could be left over from 1.0. It sounds like it takes a lot to make some of those pieces. They exist though. The HQ http://xivdb.com/?item/3256/Heavy-Darksteel-Armor matches the defense/magic defense of the http://xivdb.com/?item/3250/Heavy-Darklight-Armor, but weaker on the other stat boosts. That's where materia could come in to match it.

HQ Vanya's can definitely put up a fight, possibly/probably even outdo DL for a few of the caster classes so I would not say that is entirely accurate.

Crafters aren't completely screwed, all the gatherer gear is crafted, and man it was tough finding people to make all of my stuff let alone run down all the materials needed.

Also, we haven't seen what crafters will be able to do with housing. There could be a whole new market with furniture, drapes, decorative metal work, pimp cups etc

What I would like to see is end-game gear that drop with materia slot. If the best materia can only be created from high level crafted gear, that's a big market for any crafter right there.

It seems the HQ crafted gear will be of most use to DPS, and possibly healers, rather than tanks.

The slightly inferior base stats (STR/VIT/INT etc) can be compensated for with a single tier IV/V materia, bringing it up to snuff (before capping out). The real draw of HQ crafted gear + materia (as I see it) is in balancing secondary stats - hitting accuracy cap (once it is known), then crit chance/determination/skill-spell speed. Tanks will only have parry as a secondary stat, so at most only 3 stats to push to cap for each piece (STR, VIT & parry), whereas DPS will have 5, and healers 4. Each class will also have different breakpoints/weightings, so customisable gear will be greatly beneficial.

For example, SCH heals benefit massively from crits due to cureskin, even if overhealing is incurred. WHM will be more about constant throughput on your heals. So, it is likely that SCH will value crit higher than WHM, whereas WHM will value determination more than SCH. Same HQ crafted gearset can be taken in 2 different directions depending on job, which high-level dungeon gear doesn't allow for.

Just my $0.02, anyway.

Really?

iLvl 55 Militia gear HQ = AF stat, with Safe Materia Slot for extra stat.
iLvl 70 Armour HQ = Dark Light stat, with Safe Materia Slot for extra stat.
iLvl 70 Weapon HQ = Garuda/Mog/Titan stat, with 3 Materia Safe Slot. My HQ Obelisk 5 meld beat Garuda by a huge margin, +6 Crit Rate +19 Determination on top of the same other stats. + Determination stat always work better than + STR stat for the same reason as + Parry better than + DEX. Pretty easy to compare this as my LB1 OHKO the Wasp at Demon wall, whereas similar DRG with Full DL like me but with Mog Fork still leave the Wasp with 1-3 Weapon Skill left to kill.

Can't remember the exact number but my Final Heaven at Dhorme Chimera was around 14,500.

For DPS purpose, each piece of crafted accessories can get 6-10 Determination and 8-12 Crit Rate for a total of 30-50 Determination and 40-60 Crit Rate (5 accessories slots).

Never thought of it that way they do have more stats to use, but i think you might of forgot that HQ gear gives a huge bonus to def and m.def, so it helps tanks there aswell. I cant remeber the name but that level 15 bronze shield (looks like a tower shield) had like 20 def, the HQ had 52 def, i was surprised how much it jumped up.
