New Class/Job Tree PredictionsFollow

So, I've been thinking a bit lately about how I believe SE has set a precedent for other job progressions in the future, based around how they designed the Arcanist class branching into the Summoner and Scholar jobs.

It seems to me that they are possibly establishing a pattern to introduce other jobs down the line, following this same path.

So, here are my predictions, and I'd love to hear what you guys think! (I've left Arcanist off, for obvious reasons)

Archer -> Bard and Ranger (or Musketeer/Corsair)
Conjurer -> White Mage and Geomancer
Gladiator -> Paladin and Red Mage
Lancer -> Dragoon and Samurai
Marauder -> Warrior and Dark Knight
Pugilist -> Monk and Ninja
Thaumaturge -> Black Mage and Time Mage

Obviously, these are suppositions and guesses... but also seem like they could hold a possibility of coming to fruition.

Archer -> Bard and Ranger (or Musketeer/Corsair)

Definitely see this. Muketeer with guns. There's nothing stopping them from giving Musketeer guns.

Gladiator -> Paladin and Red Mage

Maybe? Would be cool, and make sense since they are both spellswords.

Lancer -> Dragoon and Samurai

They could do it, but I feel like it would be a stretch.

Marauder -> Warrior and Dark Knight

This is the most obvious one. Lower Acc, steals hp, big weapon.

Pugilist -> Monk and Ninja

Hmm.. would they make Ninja dual wield or just make the main hand weapon like fist weapons, where it comes with 2? That seems very likely.

Really, Sch/Smn has proven that nothing is too much of a stretch and the writers are pretty good and making it work.

One of the reasons Lancer -> Dragoon/Samurai makes sense to me is because they both use 2 handed weapons, Samurai traditionally trained with lance-type weapons (yuri and naginata), and both would fit the style of "precise, targeted attacks"

I do think it's probably the biggest stretch of all the above, but still makes sense.

Would make more sense if they added a Rogue class that would then link to Ninja (plus Pugilist) and Corsair (plus Archer).

Alchemist + Conjurer = Chemist?

I like the idea of including the crafting classes into the equation, but I wonder about advanced jobs for the crafting and gathering classes?

Carpenter + Botonist = Lumberjack!

or something...

Pugilist > Dancer

Archer > Ranger or Hunter

Gladiator > Red Mage

I don't predict Musketeer being a branch of Archer.

Ooooo, I like the idea of mixing with the DoH (or whatever it is they're called)! Perhaps Gladiator plus Alchemist for ninja?

I also like the idea of adding completely new class/job pairs. I saw someone's suggestion of Fencer->Red mage. I imagine Gunner->Flintlock and Viking->Green Mage (I would loooove to see this one). I clearly pull inspiration from the jobs of the tactics games. It would be pretty cool to play as a Juggler, Trickster, or Illusionist - but I don't see these being as easily implemented.

Overall, I'm pretty excited to see what they come up with, and hope it isn't just a copy of all FFXI classes (though I do miss my DNC so much).

They're going to have to add Base classes like they did with ConjurerArcanist if they want to expand on what we currently already have.

That said, the world already contains Time Mages, Corsairs/Musketeers, Engineers, Seers/Oracles and if you ignore the shield, there's a Galka in outside the Royal Court in Ul'Dah wearing what can only be described as a Blue Mage attire (Empyrean from XI).

The options are all already there. I just figure we're going to have to get new base classes if you actually want to wear the weapons they normally have.

A samurai without a Great Katana for instance wouldnt be a samurai to me.
Gladiator already wears knives at times, but for something like Thief or so i'd imagine we'd get a diffirent subclass too.

*edit* sleepy...

Don't forget they can make entirely new starter classes.

I can see Green Mage > Red Mage (or maybe even BLU)

You can even have THF come from that class as well.

Wasn't the a shepherd class found in the dats for 1.0? I seem to vaguely recall this.

I think support classes like Dancer and Puppetmaster are likly far off since they don't have duty finder set up to handle support classes and look at what the bard is.

I just noticed that Thief was missing from the starter classes. Interesting...perhaps they will add it later to be a subjob for Ninja. I am wondering if and where they would fit in the BLUE mage.

Same here. Although I'm afraid thats all we're going to get.

I would like to see each class have a unique play style and fill a role. They shouldnt add classes and jobs just for the sake of having more.

Personally, I could see something like:

Brigand -> Thief/Ninja

I was starting this thread utilizing the already existing classes, but definitely see the capability of them adding more classes.

But, like reptiletim says above, I would hope they add the classes/jobs with specific roles, rather than doing it just because.

However, balance could become a major issue with the more classes/jobs they add, so the number will likely remain fairly small.

I haven't played FFXI in a long time, was THF's emnity tools ever used much? Last I knew they were just evasion tanks for Abyssea.

I think it'd be nice to have a class and job that can assist in managing emnity. Add some "sneaky" attack moves based on position and I see a need for THF in FFXIV. Hell we already have daggers!

Oh and I want Treasure Hunter dammit..
