Spirtbound and MateriaFollow

#1 Sep 11 2013 at 8:03 AM Rating: Decent

I have seen that I have gear that is now Spirtbound to me. It seems odd that as you level you are stuck with gear forever as you cant resell it in the market. I had spent 20k on armor and then when I gained 3 more levels I bought another 10k worth of armor..

So what is Materria and Spirtbound? Is there a way to resell the items other than to a NPC for like 20gil...

Thanks..

Oh god, stop that.

While you're leveling, you'll get plenty of gear from quests and dungeons. I would only consider buying gear if you've got a gaping hole in your equipment somewhere.

Spiritbinding is for making materia. Once something is 100% spiritbound (and you've completed the necessary quest), you can convert that gear into materia which can be melded into other gear either by you or by a crafter with the appropriate level.

Isn`t that all explained in one of the quests around LV 20?
You can turn fully spiritbound stuff into materia; but if you actually paid 20k for a piece of equipment, I wonder whether you did any of the storyline missions at all...?

At level 17 (I think) you can get the materia quest, which means that you can turn any item that you are spiritbound to into a piece of materia. It's random chance what actual materia you'll get (the class of the materia depends on the class, and level of the item (i.e. DoW, DoH or DoL). Materia can then be added to items that have materia slots to enhance that items overall bonuses. To do this you'll need to have the relevant DoH class at the required level, and unlocked the add materia quest. If you don't have the needed DoH class to do the meld you can advertise it and have someone else do it for you.
