How I became a good tank.Follow

It started innocent enough. I just wanted to run around and wear pretty armor and use a greatsword.

Wait, theres no greatswords in game yet. Oh well, the closest thing to a typical warrior is Marauder. Oh well, Marauder it is. I'll just go DPS meanwhile greatswords or Dark knight arrives.

WRONG!

Quickly learned the harsh way I cant queue for anything as DPS, Marauder is only tank. Oh well, I got an AoE that gets hatred and a few moves that gets hatred. All I need is some heavy armor and I should be good. I should be humble and be nice and courteous, because Im a DPS and I know what other players wait trough to enter instances and queues to find themselves another one of those Primadonnas arrogant god-complex wannabee tank. I also learn as I go, so I shouldnt chew other people if they also learning.

What keeps me doing great? paranoia. I literately foam trough the mouth every single time I see any random mob even looking at my party. I go spam that flash thingy Gladiators have, some AoEs, get all the mobs facing away from party so the red AoEs dont hit them, carry potions and some food, use common sense, etc etc. I would never want my tank to let a mob go slap me if I was DPS, I been there, so I wont let it happen to them.

Now almost lv 40 Warrior, Im actually having fun tanking all the time for random people while explaining things and cracking my usual jokes and silliness.I have yet to become another one of those arrogant tanks because I know every member is important just as I am. I cant do well without my DPS or Healers.

Moral of the story; Eat your vegetables.

I come from FFXI, where real Warriors drink beer. LOTS of beer.

Besides, I hate vegetables.

I'm sure your failing liver and dead brain cells thank you from all of the beer you brag about having drunk as well...

Aside from that, good post from the OP.

No respectable tank would be caught dead with a greatsword. That glorious shield will strike fear in your enemies. :P (Before people start the Flames of Judgement, let me put in the disclaimer. That was a jest made for humorous intent. In no way was I expressing any personal or general consensus on the matter. Thank you for your patience. )

Agreed, We all walk a different path to enlightenment - just because your patch is different from mine does not mean it's wrong. that's 1000x as true when we're talking about a video game.

If someone is arrogant I'll be curt with them (ex, I was painting targets and someone told me to stop because it wasn't necessary until the boss fights, I flipped the bozo bit on that one) , but I've only every booted someone from the group for being outright mean , vulgar, or aggressive.

If someone is learning and wants to better themselves I will always give them the benefit of the doubt. that's not to say I haven't excused myself when it's obvious the PUG is not going to pan out, but I typically give it until I'm at a 90% confidence level that the timer will run down before we finish.

Not to hijack the thread, but what DOES happen when the timer runs out? Are we all ejected?

In the one case it happened to me, it was an instadeath and then had to port out. Not sure if thats how it is intended, but it happened in Amber Vale. One more (no joke, literally one more) hit would have killed the final Morbol boss, but time ran out and everyone just dropped dead. Well, the healer and ranged DPS were already dead, it was just me and the Lancer left. But yeah, that's what happened to me.
