Thinking of getting PS3 version just need some answers.Follow

#1 Sep 12 2013 at 5:49 AM Rating: Decent
Hello, So I have the game currently for pc, and have the 30 month free membership on my pc account.

However when it gets later at night I would prefer to play from the comfort of my bed and not my computer desk. So I am considering also picking up the PS3 version of the game.

My question's are.

1. If you own both pc and ps3 copies do you still only pay 1 subscription or do you have to pay for 2?

2. I have a character that I have been playing since the start of early access on the pc version, will this same character be playable on the ps3 version, or would I have to start fresh?

3. If I buy the ps3 version will it give me another 30 days of game time and this will stack with the pc copy?

4. What are the graphics like in comparison to the pc? not expecting them to be as good but are they to a good standard?

Thank you.

1. You need both versions but you can play your character on either.

2. See #1

3. I'm not sure.

4. Muddy textures for the character mostly(scaled down to 720p or 480p depending). Looks great when char is zoomed in, etc. Well put it this way, its a bit on par with Dragon's Dogma if you've played that game.

1. Yes only 1 sub payment
2. Yes you get to play that character
3. I don't think so.
4. Graphics seems gritty and frames drop compared to pc. Felt like I was watching claymation.

Just to let you know ps4 version has a beta coming out on feb 22nd. Also if you own a ps3 version it will be a free upgrade. They say its going to be using divx 11 so going to have upgrades in graphics :)

Hope that helps

Not divx, it's Dirx or Direct X Smiley: smile
And I can confirm that you get an extra 30 days. Also, better than pc depends on your pc. Smiley: sly

If I do that, I just get sleepy and fall out in 10 minutes, especially when I am crafting (and because I work 7-4)

If you've played it on at least moderate settings on a PC it will look fairly rough on PS3. This isn't a slam on people who play it on that platform, just the truth. Things aren't as clear and look lower rez and muddy.
Frame rates are lower and you have to get close to people for them to pop into view in crowded areas (this happens on PC as well but not nearly to this extent).

I played the game on PS3 during beta phase 3 and I thought it looked perfectly fine. Since then I have played on PC with high desktop settings. I bought the game on PS3 to get early access, and recently installed it and logged in. Its a noticeable difference but playable.

It should look a lot better on PS4 if you can afford it.

I play on both, and I strongly recommend buying a mouse and keyboard for your PS3.

Makes life (menus) easier.

I've never played it on PC, so I was born in a shadow box with PS3. However, I put it on a 39 inch TV on 1080p and run the PS3 through an HDMI cable and it looks pretty darn nice imo.

I have my PC hooked up to a 52" tv. I use USB extenders for my naga and G15 keyboard. Its ugly but it allows me to sit on the couch and play (I'm too cheap to spring for wireless accessories that would match what I'm using now) . I have a large pillow sitting next to me on my right, and on top of that is a big glass textured cutting board that my mouse pad sits on. my keyboard sits in my lap.

The game looks incredible via HDMI coming from the PC to that tv!

My pc is quite high end, I currently play it with everything maxed.

The playstation 3 version would simply be for like I say when I can just play it from comfort of my bed at like 11 night instead of at my computer desk.

Thank you for the replies.

I experience the exact opposite. When I play on my PC it is *mandatory* for me to use my PS3 controller. If only I could sync my gearsets and hotbars though :\

Framerate on ps3 doesn't drop in the slightest. In areas of high congestion they cut out animation frames on player characters not in your party. It looks awful but it actually helps maintain the 30 fps.

Synch?

Yes, you really cannot possibly play without the controller on PS3. I've certainly tried. Still, I find equipping items is easier with the mouse. (Chat is easier with keyboard, ha!)

I don't use the controller at all on PC, though I used use the controller only back in V1.0. The lack of a simple right/left/up/down ability Hotbar functionality is pretty much the only thing I can think of from 1.0 that I'm actually missing.

I think what you mean by synch is similar to how you can copy the .DAT files from character to character on PC for things like HUD layout, hot bars, macros, gearsets, etc.. SE did say that they are going to try to save that info server side so that PC/PS3 combo user will have that option. For now it seems that would be impossible, as the option to just place extra hot bars on the screen is not even available on PS3. The HUD do not enough similar options to use the same settings.

I am still hoping that will improve. I just can't see what is preventing the PC and PS3 UI options from being identical. SE is listing Lag as the reason it cannot be done.

Yah, I bounce back and forth between the two, and I really get annoyed at having to "update" my gearsets and hotbar/skill layouts each change. FFXI did feature a server side save for settings macros etc, so I'm sure well get the same service when SE gets past current issues and can resume to working towards the future.

I've been playing on a PC since beta and my PC has I-7 processor gtx-470 running high setting on the game, needless to say the game has been beautiful, so I decided to get the PS3 version also. And all ill say is you're not going to want to play on the PS3 all the time .... It doesn't do the game justice. I'm currently only playing on the PS3 to craft. I still have my Rig hooked up to my 55" LED and that's where I'll play the majority of the time.

Why not just hook the PC up to the TV and use a 360 or PS3 controller?
