PS4 beta question.....Follow

#1 Sep 15 2013 at 9:13 AM Rating: Good
Edit: I found the answer searching online. It appears SE will bring out the Beta after the PS4 goes live in Japan.

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/09/09/final-fantasy-14-ps3-players-will-be-able-to-play-ps4-beta-for-free/

"Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products, today announced that the opening of beta tests on the PlayStation® 4 version of FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A Realm Reborn from Saturday the 22nd of February 2014 and a free service that will allow players to switch from playing the game on the PlayStation® 3 to the PlayStation® 4"

I guess I'll ask a new question then. How many of you PS3 users will upgrade to the free PS4 beta on Feb 22?? I'll be there day 1 for sure.

Yoshi P also thinks many PC players will switch to the PS4. One of the reasons for this is the touch controls of the new controller. I have a feeling this will trump mouse controls.

"Players will be able to have a full HD display with hundreds of characters on at a time -- and be in your living room," Yoshida explained. "This is all for the price of the PS4 console, rather than having to put together a couple thousand dollars worth of PC equipment.

"Once players realize they can do that, I think a lot of players will go that route."

The PS4 version benchmarks high enough to compete with a $1,500 rig. So by implying thousands of dollars, Yoshi is indeed right. Part of the reason is optimization and the PS4 doesn't have terrible hording of background processing among other PC bottlenecks that require more power to compensate. You don't need a $1,000+ rig, but you're performance won't be as high as the PS4 version either. I know plenty of people with rigs comparable to the PS3 version's performance. So they run at lower settings.

Consoles are sold at a loss, so you get a much more powerful computer, at least at launch, than you could purchase with the same amount of money for a PC. Console manufacturers make all their money in licensing fees they collect for the games that work on their console which is why they do this. Having more consoles sold also makes them attractive to game developers who will also benefit by reaching a larger audience.

I play on PC and PS3. Given the PS3's age, I'm happy it plays the game at all! I'm all in for the PS4.

I've heard you'll be able to to run Skype on the PS4 by many of the devs. The cool thing about the PS4 is going to be the remote play with the Vita and the PS4 touch controller will improve play control on the console. Instead of spamming select or making a pseudo cursor, Yoshi says you can just point and click with the touchpad all while sitting on your couch with the huge flat screen TV. So let's recap, we have a platform that is a free upgrade for PS3 users. The PS4 provides the performance of a 1,000+ PC for only 400. Touch controls on a controller and a voice chat jack that can plug right into the controller too.

So I was curious, who is going to replace the PS4 HDD with a SSD? I'm going to do that for sure because it's just one more performance upgrade. Not only will it keep the console cooler temp, but load times will be virtually none existent.
