Is speed running against the rules?Follow

I know that Square is making an effort to patch it out, so... is it against the rules? Is it considered exploiting? I haven't participated in it, but it seems to be the preferred method of dungeon running.

you cant really speed run anymore. If you hear ppl advertise it its due to running things without watching cutsceens

Speed running in mmo instances is not an exploit. What se is patching is skipping content entirely. Speed running is just a coordinated group who doesn't take breaks and goes through an instance as fast as possible, usually multiple times over to obtain end game rewards in rapid succession.

Its simple. If they add a mechanic to stop it, as in this case, then the devs don't want that kind of play in game. If they do nothing then they don't care.

Ill be honest, speed running is really a lame way to play. I get why people do it. People just want gear now ect.

However it becomes so boring...and in a lot of games where speed runs happen, trash loot has the possibility of dropping rare stuff...so it bothers me, and I do find that it makes everything a bore.

If they want to add stuff to be done fast, just do it like TSW did and have like two trash pulls between bosses.

Speed running isn't against the rules per se, but ultimately, SE gets to decide how they want players to play their content. Since SE went out of their way to curb speed running in a few instances, they obviously don't agree with the tactic.

However, I think SE stepped in because of how immature some of the community was acting over speed running. I think it's safe to say that most people aren't against speed running itself, but like to have a choice of when they want to do it or not. Of course, you got to have all of the "gotta have it now" section of players screaming at people to skip cutscenes when they're trying to enjoy the story, dropping parties when people who are either inexperienced or don't want to speed run are involved, and just being generally unpleasant.

Stone Vigil for example, most groups on their first run would be advised to skip some of the junk in the side rooms so they have enough time to repeat the boss if they fail.

As for what they fixed up, people were avoiding mobs in the main thoroughfares of dungeons, fighting these isn't optional in the eyes of SE.
