Pretty good score, and on the heels of an 8.5 from IGN!

Weeeeeellllll--

Let's be honest. If Forbes didn't give it a good score, we'd all be like lolForbes isn't a gaming magazine. Smiley: laugh

So far on Metacritic, it has 86 out of 100. One point better than FFXI's release score of 85.

Since I'm linking things, I may as well link to the Forbes article too:

Forbes has an excellent games writer who knows his stuff.

Funny how the user score is just 7.5. I'd be willing to bet this game still endures more trolling than other MMOs, simply because of the number of people who wrongly predicted that ARR would flop like 1.x did.

I love how the one comment is more or less "Dammit why'd it have to be so good. Goodbye, life!"

I've found that some of the best game reviews come from those who DON'T do it all the time (as well as those found in publications not normally known for games coverage). They come from a fresher point of view than a reviewer who reviews games as his or her job and may have become jaded. Now, is this always the case? Definitely not. Sometimes the expert reviewers have insights that newer ones do not. Sometimes the newer ones miss out on stuff or don't know the whole scene very well. I still think some of the best reviews are from those who don't do them all the time, though. At the very least, these reviews are of a more 'honest' bent because they tend to have fewer preconceptions about the game beforehand.

Of course, this is all my personal opinion based on my own personal experiences. I'm sure many of you have experienced this differently. I just wanted to mention it, though, because I did like this guy's review.

Get ready for a lot of players to turn on the game. Highly hyped fast track game coming out in a few months and we all know mmorpg gamers cant like one game without hating every single other game ever made. Not to mention new stuff in another themepark game widely played.

mmorpg players cant just leave a game, they always have to make it out that the game was the worst game ever made, no matter how much they enjoyed that month.

happens with every game though...lts hope they open digital sales and refill the ranks.

User scores are so worthless. Some people loved the game, then had troubles logging in during the first week and got mad so they rate the game a 0. Then the next guy wants a game to succeed they rate it a 10.0, when they honestly don't believe the game is that good.

I always think of ratings for the Twilight movies on Rotten Tomatoes.

The audience reviews are always like 80+ percent, but the more objective critical reviews are like 25 percent. Smiley: lol

I expect a big population drop in the next week or two myself. GTA V is coming out tomorrow. So the folks who rushed to 50 and saw the credits roll will take a break to go play that instead, at least for a week or two. And some of them will decide the monthly fee isn't worth it and won't come back.

If you read most of us the 0-1 scores, it's exactly that. I can't log on.

I doubt it'll be a big drop. The real big drop is still about six weeks off when subscriptions become a thing and the new car smell wears off. Really, I get the whole scoring thing and why people would be happy, but anything short of two~three months is worthless to an MMO. It's essentially going on a battleship with a banner that reads "Mission Accomplished."

If thats how you feel then good for you. Everyone not the same, GTA is a completely different game. So I don't know how you go from an RPG to Action. How long will GTA last? there is always a new one in a few years, its fun for a bit. MMORPG is for 10+yrs if successful. So they may go but will be back, remember there are new content every 6-9 months.

This is just speaking from past experience from friends in XI who would drop off the radar for a week whenever a new offline game came out. In XI 99% of them would return once they'd finished the new game and life would go on.

I think I'll be holding off on GTA V until Christmas. My husband might play it. He missed tooling around in GTA on the PS2.

Tooling around in GTA, what a match.

I remember the toll that Skyrim took on my LS.

This seems the most likely. As most gamers have the attention span of a hyperactive beagle with ADD six weeks seems about right.

Diablo 3 obliterated my WoW raiding guild for like 3 weeks.

They'll come back. They always come back.

Ya please come back, there were a lot of trolls who hoped this game would go F2P, maybe they were just too cheap to commit a few dollars to anything. Lets show them that FFXIV is worth their hour or two of work at minimum wage.

I've got my eye on some Steam games. Especially if they go on sale.

Don't lump us old-school gamers in with the Angry Birds gamers! We're cut from a different cloth.

LOVE the game, but its no 9.5/10...
Server issues, can't create charters, laziness on SE part (auto logout is just laziness vs adding more servers) alone... Let alone the easy gameplay...
#26 Sep 16 2013 at 9:07 PM Rating: Excellent
What is a charter?
