What level are you? I seem to recall you can't do anything with the chocobos porters until you are at least level 10 and have done the level 10 city quests.

You need to get to lvl 20 and join a Grand Company to get access to mounts.

I had the same happen to me. You are talking about your Legacy Chobo right? Picked it up from the Moogle, used the item, but when you try to summon it it shows the message. I had to level up to 20 and get the seals for the Grand Company chocobo so I could use the Legacy. So basically I have two chocobos, the GC one and the Legacy one. I think its just meant to be a secondary mount, you still have to pay to get your GC chocobo. I think if you still have your old character and it's above 20 you can use it right away. This happened to me on a new character.

I believe you still have to do the Main Story quests to unlock the Grand Company and do what the other user said get the Grand Company chocobo. This is what allows the use of mounts if memory serves in the current context of the game.

Also, to use the Companion mode to have it fight alongside you, you need to do the level 30 quest in Camp Tranquil "A Feisty Little Chocobo" or a name along those lines.

I did not have to join a grand company (again) to have access to my old GC chocobo, my legacy bird, or my Goobbue mount.

My Legacy char with those goodies is 42 though, so perhaps level 20 is the only raw requirement (and past the level 10 story quest as I mentioned.)

Sorry that's my mistake, did you have to buy the Chocobo License for seals again? I'm now just curious how it really works.

Nope. I didn't have to do anything - this was one of the very few things that seemed to carry over from V1.

So sad I can't wear my old Limsa uniform unless I re-join there. My poor confused 1.0 character... woke up in the middle of an Ul'dahn field with a gunny sack holding a uniform for someone else's city-state, and no one remembers her name.

You need to go to the Calamity Salvager NPC and claim your old ver1.0 items.

There will be a Chocobo Whistle. Go to your inventory and use it. In ARR the Whistle is a one-time use consumable.

You can now use the Mount icon (found under Abilities and Traits > Mounts) to use your Chocobo.

1.0 players do not need to do the Story Mission to unlock Chocobo.
