possible inn exploit?Follow

ok so right in front of me there are 3 people all dressed exactly the same, accessories and all. they are all THM. they dont have random names though, they seem real.

now, the weird thing is, one of them is just standing by the repair guy in ul dah. 2 of them repeatedly go into the inn. come out. talk to the repair guy beside the inn. and go back inside the inn, etc.

is there a possible exploit here? normally people wouldn't do weird things like this which is why this looks really fishy. i cant see a reason why people would go in and out and talk to the repair guy over and over.

They probably sit in the Inn to acquire more rested XP while waiting on DF ques, then they do the instance, finish it and exit back to their room, exit to repair, and go back in.... rinse repeat.

I've done that on a few occassions.

Keep in mind that FFXIV (stupidly, I think) features a "generate legitimate-sounding name" option on character creation.

i would agree but they arent doing this. theres no pause in between them going in and coming out. they go in, come out, talk to repair guy, and go back in. thtis cycle is 20 seconds in total.

Hmm, but what could they be getting from it?

not sure. the only thing you can do in there is talk to your retainer. i'm just putting this out there because of how weird it looks. The one guy just standing there DC'd and now the other 2 never came out of their inn.

could just be their bot went on the fritz who knows. i sent an investigation report. If they are doing something shady hopefully SE will look into it.

I wonder if they could be transferring funds and/or liquidating gathering materials. It might be a script to empty out someone's inventory. Or, yeah, possibly a bot on the fritz.

Pure speculation, but maybe they have found a way to dupe items in the inn and are selling them en masse?

I forget, can you sell stuff to menders?

Not the the Independent Mender NPCs in town, the only thing they offer is repair services. You can sell to the Merchant + Menders that are all over the other places though, they offer all services, Tools, Armors, Weapons, and Repair.

You cannot craft in your Inn, so it doesn't really make any sense that they'd go into the Inn, do something, then come out and need to use the repair NPC.

As long as we don't pull off Yoshi's mask and find it was Tanaka all along.

Tanaka would NEVER be so nice to the players. His motto was "Treat em mean and keep em keen"!

Please just report it. Then at least they have it on record. To me it sounds like they are raiding the repair merchant somehow. There was a period in FFXI where characters somehow raided the AH and were able to pilfer millions and millions of gil. This could be something like that.

Leave it to people on---Naaah I won't say that. Just leave it to people in general to opt for the easy way out.

Woah, eerie! From August 24, 2012:

KaneKitty wrote:
It's a classic Tanaka scheme. The man was crazy - like a fox. His retirement was a ruse all along.

Six months from now we'll sit down to watch a live interview with Naoki Yoshida and our beloved new developer will tilt in close to the camera, brush his silky, dyed hair in the artificial wind created by the office air-conditioner, and then stare at us with his deeply sombre, serious eyes. Then he'll seize hold of his own jaw and wrench his skin upwards with a sudden jerk, seeming to pull himself apart, at first terrifying us viewers, until we realize that it was only rubber and adhesive. He'll hurl the mask to the ground as One Winged Angel begins to echo through some unknown speakers, swish his hand across his face, and reveal himself as Tanaka. He was always Tanaka; Yoshida was nothing more than a mask.

I think i found it.

They are infact RMT. Spamming their advertisements.

The trick is, you cant blacklist someone when they're in their innroom, since you will then get the message "Cannot locate a character with that name". Just happened to me, even Copy/Pasted the name since i thought i misspelled it at first.

It's basicly their counter to us blacklisting them...

Great find, and should be easily fixable by SE by simply allowing blacklist to work on people who are in an inn.

I'd like to think that a cryptic url from a facesmash name or random stranger that spams the chat so fast it becomes useless and that you're unable to blacklist asking for your credit card info in exchange for virtual currency would throw some serious red flags to people...but I know it doesn't. These guys wouldn't spam the chat like that if it wasn't effective.

All the cheating really frustrates me. All the effort and talent that goes into discovering and exploiting loopholes in a world where things don't really matter; if only all that talent and effort could be applied to solving real-world problems instead of creating them.

There is always the off chance they were trying to store stuff in their bank and were just going to repair it one section at a time...Not sure why stuff needs to be at 100% to bank but w/e

I also noticed that even when you blist people, you still see their spam if you are zoning when they spam the message. Thanks

Zoadanmg Aamdg for you " ;'12f VV VV VV d0t WE TAKE YOUR $! for your non stop 12 line spams, still showing up while zoning.

Well done! When I got that message I assumed they had logged off. Those must be the /tell bots for RMT, hiding so you can't B-list.

Yoshida: RMT, you must be exterminated. Exterminate. Exterminate. Exterminate!
