Will they be able to participate with 24 players on screen + however many enemies?

I would guess that, yes... they will be able to. It would be quite silly otherwise. I wouldn't be surprised if they offered a downgraded resolution or something for PS3 somewhere down the road (assuming they don't further optimize the game, which is much more likely) for larger content.

If they could make 64 men and god knows how many enemies in Dynamis work on FFXI on PS2 I dont see how it would be hard for them to make a 24 man raid work on ps3

im aware of the fact that FFXI is graphically inferior to FFXIV which is why they could run a 64 man dynamis on PS2 just fine.... however the fact that the highest man raid on a PS3 is 24 (40 men less) that smaller number should make up for the better graphics and thus the PS3 being better hardware than the PS2 should be able to handle a smaller man battle field while using better graphics

FFXIV has a limit placed on the number of elements displayed simultaneously (characters, nameplates, animations, etc). The PS3 version has a limit that is lower than the PC version. If you're worried about people or enemies not displaying correctly then I suggest you lower the amount of elements displayed in your settings.

PS3 limitations.

It wouldn't be FF without the limitations!

Honestly as a proud PS3 player, I'm probably not going to do this until I either upgrade to the PS4 or the PC version. The problems during fates and the lag during 8 man raids is enough of a concern to realize the PS3 version won't be able to cope. However, there is one possibility that I'm wrong. Yoshi seems to think that these parties would not be in the same vicinity so that would be great for PS3 users. If this turns out to be false, the PS3 will lag behind and probably just get people killed.

I'm a huge fan of the PS3 version, but there are some limits to what it can do. No PC could run the game on 512mb even on XP. LOL

The 2 systems are so wildly different making direct comparisons is nonsensical.
