I was watching a miner bot near horzion camp I marked him and watched for a good 5mins now I noticed he only harvested from 2 nodes I think they might be dcing and reconnecting which would roll them back to there last postion but wouldn't lose any harvest could this be exploit?

There's a possibility. The bunches of RMTs that be teleporting in and out of the weaver's guild, I noticed one of them always has the DC icon show up just before disappearing.

This is a good question. I will have to check this out later and watch the bots outside Ul'dah at the mining spots.

Interesting cheater theory crafting. I can confirm seeing this also. Was mining electrum ore and the "person" always had a DC icon over their head and was moving back and forth between two points.

I guess engaging in counterproductive activities is the new thing these days.

They are using hacking tools that simply tell the server where they are, they dissapear and reappear wherever they want to.

Probably below the trees, there.

This is one of those consequences of not really seeing rubber banding in that the client trusts the user too much when matters of connection difficulties arise. Rig the system into tricking the game into thinking you're DCing and moving from 10,10 to 11,12 by sending the right packet is pretty much what we're getting out of this. On the gathering end, this is why you absolutely need some kind of sanity check for interaction between points, because when you find the best conditions for a legit player to move between nodes to be something like, say, 5s, but one of these bots are doing it in under 2? It's just obvious they're not playing by the rules. ****, at this point I'd accept a default 10s delay once vacating/finishing a node before you could work on another. It'd at least level the playing field slightly.

I've seen RMT mining from inside the mountains... they're barely sticking out when they mine... when the node is empty, they go back into the mountain and then instantly reappear at the next node.

Yes, let's punish all players to try to combat RMT because that worked out amazingly well in 1.0 didn't it?

On the positive side, SE has been doing something about the RMT. Just pop over to the official forums and see all the "I got banned for having too much gil" and other nonsense excuses, followed by gullible noob hysteria.

Yeah we've already had one such thread here (although it was a repost from Reddit, I think.)

SE was mostly handing out suspensions for folks who had suspiciously large amounts of gil. I suspect anyone who was banned after investigation had other things going on.

Make it 5 seconds, since that is the time it takes the legit player to get there.

This reminds me of the horrible time had in Halo 2 where one player would get host, then hit the reset button on the modem so that everyone starts to lag. Meanwhile he's running around killing all the players who are standing still. The connection pops back in and boom, everyone drops. Great fun... Smiley: glare

If they're botting shards, they won't see a single gil from me, since I'm able to farm all the shards I need on my own.

That's because they literally did hand out a mass ban to everyone that had over a certain amount of gil with no investigation at all. You didn't think SE actually banned RMT effectively while shout/tell spammers and teleporting gatherers are still running rampant, did you? For @#%^s sake, the guy I reported for teleport gathering the first or second week of the game is still there right now popping in and out at trees.

Pretty much this. The way 14 works, you can actually force the server to update your location. Given this, you can force it to update to a location you're not actually at.

You know what I love? I don't give two ***** what the botters do. There's enough ways to level crafting that I will be an island, aside from their world of mining. They can bot mine until they are blind. I don't really need gil in any form I've seen as yet outside of teleports. I realize this might change endgame, but by then I truly expect to be level 50 on all crafts, mainly because I actually enjoy crafting more than even leveling.

I saw one this morning too, on the Banemites near Falgourd Float (SP?). He had his Chocobo out and his Choc would run to his next spawn location, while he would just teleport around. There were a couple times he died from getting aggro from some Treants near by, but his hack or whatever would override the death and he would just teleport to the next Banemite and keep killing.

From a farming perspective, he was not that hard to compete against. He would only attack one at a time, they would never aggro him, so he didn't pick up extra adds, and he would never attack one that was already claimed.

He was reported, I hope he gets a lifetime IP ban.

Just in case anyone wanted to see this kind of behaviour in action: http://www.twitch.tv/totomojo/c/3049432

Think it's different to the d/c hack, as you can see I'm maintaining target lock on the character the whole time.

It says a lot for the state of the game (or maybe the state of my mindset) that, when I see a link in a first time poster I automatically think the worst. I'm not saying this poster is a bot/rmt/whatever, trying to get people to click a dodgy link, and if you are not; I apologise, it just struck me how completely paranoid I'm becoming re: game security, while worrying about block SE bans and having to potentially deal with ****** customer service.

No offense taken, stay as secure as you need to be (that's a genuine link to my twitch channel though!). I've been active within the community since 1.0 Alpha, but never had the reason to post here on ZAM before (I was slightly put out by the fact that that was my first post too after I saw it come up!). I got here this morning from the link at the top of xivdb.com, which I frequent ad nauseum.
