Regarding Actions Taken Against In-Game RMT Ads and Illicit Activities (Oct. 1)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RMT and other illicit activities upset the balance of the game and, as such, are prohibited under the Terms of Service.

Because we have confirmed the existence of players who are engaging in these illicit activities, we have taken the actions listed below.

- Date: Sep. 12 – Sep. 30, 2013
- Accounts receiving disciplinary action for RMT site advertisements: 6,154 accounts
- Accounts receiving disciplinary action for illicit activity: 156 accounts
- Action Details: Termination from FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn

- Date: Sep. 28, 2013
- Accounts receiving disciplinary action for RMT/illicit activities: 568 accounts
- Action Details: Termination/Temporary suspension from FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn
* Accounts of egregious violators will be terminated.

- Total Frozen Gil: Approximately 367,700 million Gil
* Gil of temporarily suspended accounts will be confiscated.

Included in the above are players who used/obtained gil, items, or actions through fraudulent means. Although we are taking the utmost care and attention to prevent such actions, players who discover any confirmed cheats should, under no circumstances, exploit or disseminate such information. Instead, we ask that players file a report by using the in-game command [System Menu] -> [Support Desk] -> [Contact Us] -> [Report Cheating].

In addition, the recent maintenance operations have implemented countermeasures to nullify the effects of the aforementioned cheats.

We will continue to take stringent disciplinary action against any accounts with confirmed involvement in RMT/illicit activity; players should take care to steer clear of any activity that violates the Terms of Service. Please be forewarned.

It's just a shame they easily made 10 times that amount and those people are still around :/

Same for the very same mining botters we reported two weeks ago.

It takes no time to make a DoL class to 50. It takes even less time to take a DoH to cap. Why people (those of us that are regular to the game) do not simply become self-sufficient is beyond me. It's solved my issues. And the only time I visit the... oh.. what is it called...something board (that's how little I visit it) is to supply my retainer on goods to sell.

I disabled Shouts and tells to a separate tab so i don't look at it. RMT as far as I am concerned, is dealt with.

Nope, that's a comma. If it was 367.700 million gil it would have been, this is 367,7 mil gil it seems like.

Unless something is lost in translation I perceive this to be:

367,700,000,000 gil taken out of the game.

Otherwise why add the comma and zeros at the end. You would write 367.7 million if you wanted to say 367,700,000.

Yeah 367.7 Million is not as big as I had assumed it should be considering how many servers there are...

367.7 Billion is bigger then I thought it would be...

Kind of hard to figure out which it is... but I'm leaning towards 367.7 Billion.

I don't think anyone was mistakenly suspended. Some were temporarily suspended while under investigation, but there was always something that triggered it. It does sound like they will lose all of their gil either way though.

Would be great if they flat out banned everyone who exploited Titan's medica bug/exploit. It will teach people not to do that for once, perhaps.

people aren't really doing this. its easy enough to sell runs without resorting to a ridiculous scheme like the one that was "exposed" on reddit. also, some are selling them for a lot more than 250k :/

S-E's official stance is that no one was mistakenly suspended. If you got suspended, it's because you did something wrong, and them confiscating your gil is just them being gracious, instead of perma banning.

It's always hard to know who to believe when people say they're innocent but got banned. ON the one hand, people on the internet like to lie, and on the other hand, S-E has a track record of erring on the side of stupid when it comes to anything customer related.

Edit: Of course, you also have people like Shadowofdoubt who "knows" that because some one is accused or punished, they must be guilty.

Just to back this up, the original Japanese post read 3677億, where 億=100 million. This is (maybe) why it's been translated in an awkward way. 367.7 billion is the correct figure, in any case. Also, depending on where you are in the world, billion (US trillion) = 10^12 rather than 10^9, and milliard (US billion) = 10 ^ 9, so that could be another reason it was translated awkwardly to the NA eye. After typing all that, million and billion look like ridiculous words.

I was wondering why the gil price shot up from 6 bucks per 10.8 million (random *** numbers, these gil sellers), to 250 bucks for 10.8, then down to 170 bucks for 10.8. I assumed demand shot up, but maybe their supply was kneecapped and they had to jack up the price to deliver.

156 + 568 accounts across all servers, including gilbuyers, gilsellers, hackers and bots. That's actually a tiny number.

- Date: Sep. 28, 2013
- Accounts receiving disciplinary action for RMT/illicit activities: 568 accounts
- Action Details: Termination/Temporary suspension from FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn
* Accounts of egregious violators will be terminated.

From the sounds of things, many offenders are getting away with a short suspension and confiscated gil (which probably cost them what, $10 for the gil purchase?). Many of them would have already spent the gil anyway.

I'm not very impressed.

I don't condone RMT buying or selling, but the rate at which the chat log fills with spam... can't help but lay some of the blame on SE. I almost had to laugh. I was watching a friend play and she couldn't see the names she was trying to blacklist because the chat log was flying by so fast.

700ish accounts responsible for 367 billion gil? Really? I'm not a math major, but that's over half a billion gil per account assuming it was(of course it wasn't) evenly spread out. Smiley: eek

Still, they managed to get that much in less than a month. Even on fresh economies. And that's probably including the 1-2 weeks it took them to get set up and to find whatever it is they do, and do it/automate it/make a bot for it.

Unless they're profiting from some HUGE gil exploit somewhere, they'll simply make that amount back with new characters in a week or two. What's stopping them, really? With the amount of automation, a single person can do this all with ease with a bunch of computers.

You have to be a little impressed with how well organized they are this time. And a little disappointed with SE for making the code of the game so easy to break and be altered. Almost makes you long back for the times where it took a super computer to even be able to play the game, and RMT would have had no way to even move around or do anything with a framerate of 1 per minute without some MASSIVE investments >.>
