Truth of Mountains lvl 46: Further survey the landscape to uncover unspoiled mineral deposits and rocky outcrops.

What does this mean? In laymen's terms it means some areas will pop up a special node and you have a chance to mine items you could not mine from a normal node.

I took a good day to research Truth of Mountains and I believe I found out some really neat things that may not be well known… if known at all yet.

Disclaimer: Even though I took many ingame days to look things over and test things out, a lot of this is still hypothesis. I have no idea if this data changes per server, or even per player, or even per update.

Just to keep this from being one big wall of text I am going to split this up on a few page replies.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy the info!

What I found out so far about the Nodes and the ability:

Truth of Mountains does not seem to have an area of effect limitation. I tested this out by going to the opposite side of a zone where the nodes popped and it did indeed still tell me an unspoiled node was present. I was worried I had to be in a specific area for the ability to work, but this is not the case.

Nodes, once popped, will stay active for around 8 minutes real time. 8 minutes is a long time, so you have no real rush to get to the node once you see it has popped.

If you back out of a node, it will de-spawn. Even if you had not mined any of it, the node will disappear if you back out of it for any reasons. I found this out by accident, but it is still a good thing to know.

You can be on your mount for the Node to work. So no need to hop off your choco to make sure you see the node pop.

I had not checked all the areas but as far as I can tell, at least for the higher lvl areas Mor Dhona and Coerthas pop the rare Nodes. A game day is along time to wait though, so I did not have a chance to check all areas at all times.

The Mining:

Major edit on this one. After mining these nodes for so long I came up with my own cheat sheet to help me get from one node to the other. This is much like the post right below this one. My apologies for the redundancies.

Kind of self explanatory but the list goes by "Time - Item - Depth to Mine - Teleport location"

Pop Times

1am: Dark-steel ore (3rd from the Top) (Camp Dragonhead)

5am: Gold Dust (2nd from the Top) (Camp Drybone)

9am: Gold Ore (3rd from the Bottom) (Camp Drybone)
Vanity pet 2nd from the bottom (Camp Drybone)

1pm: Clusters/Grade 4 Matter (Revenant's Toll)

5pm: Rock Salt (Wineport)
Clusters/Grade 4 Matter (Wineport) (Revenant's Toll)

9pm: Astral rock (2nd from the Bottom) (Camp Dragonhead)
Clusters/Grade 4 Matter (Revenant's Toll)

Cluster Nodes
1 Grade 4 carb matter
2 Lightning cluster
3 Fire cluster
4 Wind cluster
5 Water cluster
6 Ice cluster
7 Earth cluster
8 Empty

Those pesky Nodes

Now here is the big part in my book. If you look over the net on finding these Nodes, most will say it is a random pop throughout the game day.

This is not true.

Here is a link to the timer on each location and pop.

MINER
(Eorzea Time)
1:00 AM - Mining Level 50 (Darksteel Ore) appears in Coerthas Central Highlands at/around Haldrath's March
5:00 AM - Quarrying Level 50 (Gold Sand) appears in Eastern Thanalan at/around Yug'ram River
9:00 AM - Mining Level 50 (Coblyn Larva & Gold Ore) appears in Eastern Thanalan at/around Burgandy Falls
1:00 PM - Quarrying Level 50 (Grade 4 Carbonized Matter) appears in Mor Dhona at/around Saint Coinach's Find/Singing Shards
5:00 PM - Quarrying Level 50 (Volcanic Rock Salt) appears in Eastern La Noscea at/around Raincatcher Gully
5:00 PM - Quarrying Level 50 (Grade 4 Carbonized Matter) appears in Mor Dhona at/around Saint Coinach's Find/Singing Shards
9:00 PM - Quarrying Level 50 (Astral Rock) appears in Coerthas Central Highlands at/around Skyfire Locks/Dragonhead
9:00 PM - Quarrying Level 50 (Grade 4 Carbonized Matter) appears in Mor Dhona at/around Saint Coinach's Find/Singing Shards

If you are a PS3 user the ingame clock does not automatically show. You can use the sun dial rotating around the mini map or change the clock by putting the Controller in Mouse mode then scrolling over to the Time, then hitting a few buttons until you reach Eorzea Time

If you go to Mining List (default B) and hover your cursor over the rare item it will tell you the general idea where the nodes would spawn (the map, not the named part of the map). Eastern Thanalan come to mind.

Fun fact: Both Truth (Forest/Mountain) can be active at the same time.
