New to LV 50, where to go?Follow

I just reached 50 in two jobs, and thought: hey! Let's go to that Wanderer's Palace that's been on my list for 2 weeks now!
In preparation, I clad myself in a full set of militia gear from head to toe (item level 55 - and all of it HQ).

The first thing I hear when entering the dungeon was: "hey, you need at least AF gear to pass this dungeon" (funny enough,
HQ Militia gear is generally superior to AF, but, ok I thought, let's don the AF set nonetheless). Next thing I am told is that AF
gear sucks anyway, and we have no time for this ****, and the PT disbands.

So, the logical question arises: where am I supposed to go to instead?

Your gear was more then good for that place, they proly were new to 50 and don't know what gear is out there besides dungeon drops. Don't wear your af if you have that gear

dont worry you need your relic +1 and af 2 to run CM and PRAET and AK
most AK shout will ask "RELIC +1 ONRY"

Logically at 50 you'd do WP and AK for tomes to get darklight all while working towards your relic and after that, coil.

Bad luck i'd say, you got an elitist party in df lol, luckily i havent seen it happen that often, most people don't care for your gear until Titan HM unless you are making a speed run group.

They're simply using gear to compensate for lack of skill. What's even more pathetic, is most of them were just where you were like 2 weeks ago. How easily people forget. It's even more disgusting if you're not on a legacy server, because they are definitely way out of line.

Current logic is, you need the gear that the said zone drops to beat the zone.

You're right where you're supposed to be. WP has seen a lot of traffic lately since some more incentive was given to run it for mythology/philosophy over AK.

This was generally how progression went before they stuck some incentives in WP:

Guys, thank you SOOOOOOO much for those replies! I already started to wonder whether I was insane or not.
So I understand that Castrum Meridianum and the Praetorium are indeed one step below the Wanderer's palace.

Unluckily, the WP was the first one to show up on my quest list, since I didn't finish the main storyline until later.
So I guess I should start with the Castrum and Praetorium first, get a DL set, and then continue to the Palace;
but also that my HQ LV55 gear was not so completely, utterly way beyond what I was expected to have as they
would make it sound.

You know, the funny thing was:
1.) Our WHM "kindly advised" me to use at least AF, while the HQ Militia gear I was wearing was quite a bit
stronger than AF.
2.) Our BLM never-ever used Sleepga. Are the mobs in Wanderer's palace immune?
3.) Our DRG always attacked the mob next to the one I had marked.

Perhaps I indeed had the pleasure to be teamed up with a bunch of overgeared numbskulls (all of them had either
full DL and Garuda weapons and, in case of the WHM, a Relic+1 body)...?! Could somebody confirm this, because
they really hit my confidence?!

Honestly, the whole purpose of AK/WP is to acquire gear and tomes for gear. I don't understand people who DF it up and complain about AF or ilvl 55 gear, it makes no sense. Generally you shouldn't run into many issues, most people with stupid requirement are found shouting at Revenant's Toll.

P.S.: Before I forget it: our super-geared WHM also "forgot" to in-battle raise the DRG (who had, once again,
attacked anything in sight except for the mobs I had marked) in the battle with the puddings.
For a whole 3 minutes. And then he left, because "I think with this equipment, we have no chance anyway". O.o;

If people want to fight battles a certain way, they should shout or use their LS/FC. I'm glad Yoshi mentioned the different criteria for gathering members. People insist on going into DF and expecting people to fight the same way they do. Sure, your gear would not cut it for the 10 min WP speed run, but had he adjusted, it could have easily been a 20 min run. Just had to use what was available.

Skilled players that can't adjust to content they deem far beneath them. I look forward to the changes to come.

Man I got my WHM AF gear on Friday and was trying to figure out the same thing... what's next? I figured out very quickly that no matter where you choose to go next, people will tell you that you need better than AF gear.

I think people just get pissy because they are grinding out the same things over and over again. They forget that some people are doing things for the first time still.

I had several people send me tells in town suggesting I upgrade my whm AF gear. I'm like, dude I understand there's better gear out there, but I just got my AF yesterday. Give me a chance!

Ya this list is pretty great.

So post-patch you can queue for:

[x] Wanderer's Palace
[x] Amador Keep
[x] Castrum Meridium
[x] Praetorium

[x] Ifrit HM

These will fill up your 5 slots that you can queue for at once. After you get the Ifrit Weapon you can queue Garuda.

Start moving your relic along while you wait for duty finder to pop. And, of course, watch your Free Company chat for runs of any of the above. Always more fun with friends! Post-patch you will be getting Philosophy and Mythology Stone for pretty much everything. Start filling in your lowest gear slots with Darklight gear.

Here is the important part: IGNORE THE FOOLS who say you are under-geared for blah blah blah. Yes you are, that's why are are running blah blah blah.

I can say pretty confidently that you can win nearly all of the runs above with mid-range gear. (You cannot have 4/4 party of fresh 50's and win at Amador Keep, BUT you can win with 2/4 people fairly well geared.) Learning the fight is what you need to do, and to do that, you need to go do the fight. (Watch a video if you are so inclined). But really, just go do it have fun and remember:

IGNORE THE FOOLS.

The only thing you should not do is try to progress through Titan Hard Mode before getting decked out in Darklight Armor and have at least one Primal Weapon or Relic Weapon. That is your goal, and getting there is fun! as long as you IGNORE THE FOOLS.

There are a TON of great, reasonable, helpful players out there who are A) also trying to get better gear, B) remember what is was like last week when they were still working on better gear. These guys are super fun to play with. Woohoo! You will be helping newer-players-than-you learn the fights in no time.

Honestly really impressed by the way the recent patch evened out the incentives for the current Lvl 50 Dungeons. The are all getting play time now.

Bahamut's Coil, here we come!

Wow, you know it's getting bad when people say you're undergeared for walking around town.

You don't worry as others have said, just ignore the fools and queue for Wanderer Palace, I cleared that place many times in AF + lvl 49 weapon until I got tired of looking for my Darklight knuckles and just decided to clear Ifrit HM (again in full AF + lvl 49 weapon) to get the weapon.

Everyone has an opinion you just remember that in this game (like most MMO out there) skill triumphs gear, naturally within the boundaries of common sense.

On the other hand DPS's in WP, CM, Pr and even AK kinda go wild in the name of "doing the run faster!!!", sometimes people won't follow you, specially when they out-gear you.

And last but not least, I recommend you to watch a video of AK before attempting it, at least the boss fights, there are some tricky aspects that would be better to know in advance, particularly as a tank.

Good luck!

Gear for wanders palace is a joke, its easy, if ppl do things slower when someone is new or only done it a few times. AF is decent enough gear for it. The hardest thing is the blob boss but with time and practice it becomes routine. AK tho is becoming a pain for me to run since everyone seems to want to tank bosses different. I would also recomend doing Ifrit HM with friends, or FC mostly first since it can be full of jerks too. If you are just looking to work on getting DL gear, I would stck with wanders for awhile it only drops a few less tomes, but there isnt much variation on how its run from group to group, outside of speed.

Dont give into the elietist jerks in DF, your bound to get them, and theres probably a reason they are using DF insted of thier FC, or shout party for speed runs.

Also always try to remember even after your geared, and can do it blind folded someone else might be new to it, so try and help them out with kind advice on the mechanics of the dungeon your in.
