Odd requests in game.Follow

I was at Revenant's Toll this morning knocking out HQ Cobalt Ingots on my Blacksmith when a WAR approached me and asked if I could craft him a better weapon. I'm pretty happy to do stuff for people, I never ask for gil for materia melds and such (though I probably should), so I replied yes. A quick examination revealed he was using the GC Lieutenant's Axe so the only craftable one above that is a Rampager (or maybe an HQ Barbarian's Bardiche) so I asked him for the mats: "I thought you would take care of that," was the reply back!? I explained I'd need two Darksteel Ingots @ 5-600k each and I didn't carry that kind of thing around or a bloody Bardich head, and suggested he may want to look into farming Ifrit for his next level weapon, and he just stood in front of me for 5 mins in silence after that as I continued crafting, I'm not sure if he was waiting to see if I would suddenly have a change of heart.

I'm hoping he was perhaps just ignorant or what was required, I found the entire conversation really odd.

I'm sorry, but people sometimes really are that dense.

If it's random gems or ingots for accessories on my goldsmith, sure, there's a reasonably large chance i may have some on me to make what you want. But if i'm on my blacksmith, you cant just order a weapon or tool and assume i have every single piece of wood, leather and ingots (or even sub-materials) on me at all times to make something for you.

Still, that's not the worst request i've seen. Someone asked me to make a HQ tool of something, think it was one of the Lv.50 offhand militia items, had most of the materials on me and i was in a good mood, so i picked up what was missing and told the person not to worry about the gil since i know how much the Militia things help. Next thing you know, i check the Marketboards to see how much the going price would have been if i would have sold it, and i find the very HQ i just made, with my signature, on the marketboards for 20k...

It sounds to me like it could just be a young kid who doesn't know exactly how things work, both in game and socially. Not necessarily with bad intentions.

Wow, I didn't realize you could see your signature on items in FFXIV: ARR.

I loved that about FFXI... I was kind of hoping they would bring that back.

Where is this located so I can look for it?

I believe it's right at the bottom of the item description, under all the repair/melding info, and the vendor price. It's in a yellow/gold script. Not ostentatious, and very easy to miss - wouldn't mind something a bit more distinctive, but it's better than nothing!

And original post ... just wow!

I thought you lost signatures when you put items up on xi AH?... Anyway, back on topic, I always refrained from doing work for peeps unless they were friends, friends of friends, or in my LS... I did take some flack from the odd a$$-hat or two but meh, that kinda stuff never really bothered me.

You can even see it on the Lodestone character page. Hover over the slot to get the popup, and it's listed at the bottom.

For instance, your miner's head, body and hands items were made by Crystal Light.

I'm mostly the same way. I'll do work if someone requests it, but I won't go out of my way, and I won't cut any slack on the price unless they're FC, LS, or friends.

To me, it's just not worth the hassle.

Hello Mr. Blacksmith, I realize that you are busy and all... Wow you are sweaty... Hey... Hey. Ummm, you think you could hook me up with a weapon of the gods, you know all shiny and sharp? If not that's ok, I didnt really think you could do it anyway.... Wait you can? Wow, mister that's great! Materials? No, you see I need the weapon of the gods to gather the materials... Farming? Like corn and soybeans? No I dont do that...

It's a vicious cycle.

Princess tank/healer/DPS calls an inexperienced DPS/healer/tank a noob.

Inexperienced DPS/healer/tank, due to inexperience, assumes the issue is with his gear/weapon.

Inexperienced DPS/healer/tank seeks out crafter, but due to inexperience, doesn't know what to ask for or what's required.

Inexperienced DPS/healer/tank does not get gear upgrades from crafter, decides to try from the next higher dungeon.

DPS screws up. Princess tank/healer/DPS calls an inexperienced DPS/healer/tank a noob....

Ya, always makes me laugh when you have players who keep getting hit by AOE's and other simple mechanics. "Oh don't worry, just a bit more and I'll have my relic and a few more DL pieces". Ok, that's not going to help you avoid those giant red circles you keep standing in. Guess some melee think if they have enough def/hp they can stand there like knobs and have the healers run around like chickens with their heads cut off.
