Using a PC, I'm going in through the character screen to add points. I can dump the entire 30 points in a trait, but the number never goes up. I don't hit accept because I'm afraid of messing it up.

Any ideas?

If you look closely it's [Trait Number] + [Point Counter]. The stat will not rise until you hit accept, and if you change your mind later you can get a GC scroll that resets all your stats.

Thanks, that just leaves me one more question. From what people say they don't fit evenly, like 5 points makes the attribute go up 1 point, so how do you know when to stop and put the remainder somewhere else?

It really depends on what job/class you are trying to advance.
The percieved knowledge on Arcanist for instance is to put it into INT (Intelligence).
For a DoW it would probable be a choice between STR, DEX, VIT - not sure if you can add ACC?

As for Arcanist, depends if you're interested in becoming a Scholar or not, in which case you'd probably prefer raising MND and using Cleric Stance for nuking with.

Also, every DoW class has their own concerns. Arc/Brd uses Dex for damage instead of Str, for example. Warriors and Paladins as tanks might want to start with Vit to keep their HP up, though Str can help with damage and the amount of damage blocked, and Dex can help with the frequency of blocked attacks.

Overall, it's hard to say this far and no further with attribute allotment because the final total on your stats depend upon your gear. As you level up, this will change a lot.

While leveling, most people max out their respective damage stat (while healers can use Cleric Stance to nuke with MND), except for some tanks who might prefer Vit to raise health. At endgame, you may want to change this up once your build is more stable and you can be more exact with the distribution, in which case a 10,000 Seal scroll from your Grand Company can help you make the adjustment.

Video games are like Whose Line is it, Anyway...everything's made up and the points don't matter.

All kidding aside, I dumped all but two attribute points into STR on my Lancer. I may end up resetting that and putting all 30 into STR eventually. On my MRD, I've been splitting points between STR & VIT. As far as ACN goes, I may end up splitting them between Mind & Piety.

I put it all on STR for my LNC. I figure unless a bona fide strategy tells me otherwise I'm capping for level cap increase. That said, it feels like a useless option ( for most DD's at least). It's more a situation of remembering you have them rather than where to put them. Would be much more interesting if dex affected melee DD accuracy.

Based on my understanding and the data I've this is what you should be doing. You're basically choosing these states for endgame purposes as they won't mean the difference between life/death + winning/losing before that:

WAR- VIT
PLD- VIT
MNK- STR
DRG- STR
WHM- MND
BLM- INT
BRD- DEX
SCH main- MND
SMN main- INT

I guess for the last two you could split it if you're on the fence. That's the only one I'm not too sure about. Either way you can always reset the stat alocation using a Hymn of the Keeper (available from the GC vendor).

You might say that PLD may have an alternative in MND, but till we get stronger cures as a PLD, there's really no point to adding MND in any way, shape or form. With the amount of base MND we get (around 200), spending 10, 20 or even the full 30 points is just going to give you 210, 220 or 230 HP cures. Completely irrelevant when you take a base pool of 5000 into account and most monster hits taking off more than you can cure.

The only job with any alternative to them is WAR. They can go both the VIT route, or flatout STR and be an incredible support tanking-DPS if they gear for it properly. Astonishing pseudo-DPS class, but with the HP to take a hit or two. I've seen it work really well.
