I just found the sysreqs on ffxivinfo.com and my PC is well beyond them. The only thing I'm not 100% certain of is which video card I have, but I know it's better than a Radeon 4770.

Man, I'm starting to get really excited. *twitch twitch*

@Gnu: I was leaning towards lancer or archer, but most likely lancer beause my friend who plays is maining archer and I didn't want to seem like too much of a copycat, lol. I don't know if end game will be a seriously possibility for me or not. That will entirely depend on how long raids take to run. I'm divorced with a 4 year old, so half the time I am not available at all because I have the munchkin.

Cool. Lancer is a super fun class to play. The Dragoon Job is a DPS beast for fights that cater to melee DPS, which is most of them! The dodging of AoE attacks centered on your target is the key. You pick that up throughout the leveling process.

If you really want to go Archer, do it! Many bosses require a Silence rotation, where you take turns making sure the boss can't cast the super move that kills everyone. That means at least two Bards, which accounts for the high demand. You could end up being on the Silence team with your friend. A ton of the success depends on good teamwork between the Silencers! Ask your friend, he will agree with that I'm sure!

No matter what you pick, you are going to have fun. So many options for EXP and varying things to do while leveling up. Welcome to ZAM! Hope to hear more of your adventuring!

I'm kind of leaning towards gladiator/paladin after some more reading. I think I can pick up tanking in 15 levels. I don't know, I'll probably try every job available to me.

Finally got the game downloaded and got to play for about 45 minutes this morning before work. First impressions:

-With graphics on all high settings, the game looks amazing and runs ridiculously smooth.
-I chose to start as a female midlander Hyur gladiator. I don't know if this means much in the long run, but it's what I picked.
-I haven't gotten to whack anything with my sword yet, but I've ran and explored a lot of Ul'dah.
-The UI is very intuitive. I wasn't grasping for how to do things at all and I slipped into the game like it was a comfortable shoe.

Oh, and I randomly ran into Hitome in Ul'dah this morning, but (s)he ignored me. It looks like (s)he was crafting, so (s)he might have been AFK.

Haha that was you! I'm sorry I didn't get to say hi. I was actually reading the forums while synthing walnut lumber for a friend (so basically alt tabbed most of the time).

Welcome to the game and welcome to Midgard. :) If you need help with something or have questions, feel free to hit me up. Would be happy to synth you some starting gear for your gladiator.

That would be awesome. I only got to run around about half the city this morning before I had to come to work. I'll be back on tonight around 7:30 or so. My character's name is Sofia Kashmir.

Dude, I've been posting all over the place, in like every thread and starting some new ones. My first week has been a blast. Got GLD to 23, joined the Immortal Flames, and am on my way to a chocobo mount.

I still have tons of questions, but they are mostly about the crafting classes. As a GLD I've successfully tanked the first 3 dungeons you do in story mode as well as Ifrit. We died first try on Ifrit but that was because one of our DPS didn't know to switch DPS to the nail. Second try we got him down with the quickness. I'm at the point in the main story quest now where I'm talking to the sylphs. I'm also trying to grind FATEs for seals to get my chocobo, but I've only found a couple and there has been nobody else around to help me out with them and killing 40 mobs as a GLD takes FOREVER.

The primary places that people grind out FATES seem to be:
20-30: Quarrymill
30-37ish: Costa Del Sol
37 on up: Dragonhead

If you're not in one of those three areas, you probably won't have much help in FATEs. Just go to those zones and shout to join a group, or join one that's looking for members.

I think those zones ended up being the default ones based on the number and proximity of the FATES to the aetherytes. Sure, there are other areas with them at the same levels (at least prior to Dragonhead) but they're annoying to get to, like having to run around the mountains in Ala Mihgo or Forgotten Springs or Fallgoard Float.

I think you can get seal faster by doing GC levequests. It's boring and repetitive but you can get your 2000 seals (or was it 3000) for your chocobo license in about an hour depending on fast you kill things (I did it as GLD and it didn't take me too long).

I'm not sure but I think that the lvl 20 GC leves for Immortal Flames are located in Camp Drybone. Hope this helps.

FATEs come with an added boost of exp, however.

I get most of my seals from GC supplies quests. When I unlocked Expert mode, I got about 3000 seals in one shot from all the pink/green dungeon gear I'd won Greed lots on.

I would adjust your chart to read:

37-43 - Dragonhead.
43-50 - Northern Thanalan / Mor Dhona.

A few responses to recent posts:

1. I don't know where any of those zones are and I haven't found a site yet with a decent map showing how the zones connect together.

2. Where do you pick up guildlevels? Is it from the normal levelquest guy in the adventurer's guild or is somebody near your GC supposed to hand them out?

3. Do you recommend getting a DoW/DoM class to 50 before working on all of the DoH/DoL classes?

2.) You go to the actual camp for your level (see map above) and then do a quest for the Guildleve NPC. That will unlock the repeatable Leves for that area.

3.) Because of the Myth Cap, where you can only advance lvel 50 item progress once a week, the asnwer is yes. The sooner you have a lvl 50 battle class, the sooner you can get the Mythology Stones you need for AF2 equipment. Can only collect 300 per week (soon to be 450), and each week you don't gather these tomes you fall behind in potential advancement. (Someday AF2 will be obsolete, but not right now.)

The actual answer is, of course, to do whatever is the most fun for you.

Well that would explain why nobody in the Immortal Flames area had any quests for me. I think I'll grind my first 2000 seals on FATEs so I can save as many levequests for levelling my crafting and gathering classes. If I get to 99 allowances, I'll do a few leves so I don't waste them.

I think most people just sit at 99 Leves. You can go on a huge spree of crafting and use up a bunch. You won't use then all though, mostly because you will run out of materials or play time. At the 3-hour regen rate, they just accrue faster than most people can use them.

I wouldn't spend any time doing Battle Leves right now. (There is a patch upcoming that may buff leve EXP, we'll see.) They are not completely useless, still, the group Fate areas listed above will net you better EXP, and generally, being in a FATE party is just a bit more fun than soloing Leves.

And join one of the shout parties. They're drop in / drop out and very casual, but you'll boost your exp/hour a lot and it's just a lot more fun when you're with a group.

On a small note, Battleleves are slightly usefull for later levels, because you can often find chests with pink gear in them, which may be better than what you are wearing at that time (unless you run enough dungeons to have all green gear).

That's a good point! Those chests are positioned so basically trip right over them on the way to the Leve objectives. Good stuff.

"Lentils and Chestnuts" are available at the vendors that sell ready-made Culinarian food in each city IIRC (Gridania is the closest one when people start asking).

Bronze Ornamental Hammer is available at the Merchant vendor in Camp Drybone under Tools.

Chicken Egg is available at Tradeskill vendors and in the Bismarck.

Three answers to three questions every single person in my Free Company has asked. And I don't think you're at the points in the story that use them yet.

It's one of the Aethernet destinations. If you don't have it, go to the Main Aetheryte and take the zone line north. It'll plop you right in front of the building (and Aetheryte). It's also known as the Culinarian Guild vendor.
