FFXIV Hot Read Thursday

Check out the past week's hot threads from the FFXIV General Forum!

Ongoing discussions in the FFXIV General Forum continue to be filled with complaints and confusion (and often confused complaints), but from the ashes of rational thought have risen several constructive, informative and insightful threads. Granted, these threads seem few and far between compared to the number of rant threads littering the forums. However, posters like these have made ZAM.com what it is over the years. It's a shame their voices are being drowned out by the shrill whine of gamers who are jamming the forum with rant threads while offering nothing of value to our community.

Seriously, the anti-FFXIV trolls are almost as annoying as me when I troll Oregon State Beavers football forums.

Anyway, go Ducks, and on with the links:

SOLO Guide: Level 1 to 35

Hands down, this is probably the best thread we've had since the launch of Final Fantasy XIV. To everyone who claims this game is unplayable, this poster has given you an easy-to-follow instruction manual to reach level 35 before waving the white flag. No more excuses! Let's hope this poster continues to create more guides. And to all you naysayers out there, here's an example of an informative thread that doesn't take a side on loving or hating FFXIV. See how that's done? You CAN hate the game while also being useful.

Turn off the music, enjoy the game

Any male gamer who lives with his wife or girlfriend (or who has a girlfriend over on a regular basis) can understand this poster on a deep, meaningful level. The music in FFXIV (and also in FFXI) was unique and memorable, but dang, it's also repetitive! So, why not turn off the music and just enjoy all the other ambient sounds this game has to offer? There's the sound of pounding metal from crafting, and the sound of wood being cut from crafting, and the sound of crystals breaking from crafting, and... well... I'm sure there are other sounds, too. I'll hear them, someday, when I stop crafting.

Effect of DEX confirmed! Test inside!

After a series of tests, this poster concluded that +20 DEX is equal to roughly a 12 percent boost in accuracy. Now, whether or not this poster's tests are actually conclusive is up for debate -- and as you can see in the many replies, that debate is ongoing. However, props to this poster for undertaking such a large test. Gathering data like this is likely to pay off in coming months as the game continues to grow and evolve.

population is relative

The population and standby afk people in the game are hardly an issue at the moment. I personally am not playing because I have a life and with the current format do not have the time to grind xp all the time. With the 8 leve quest limit, I do my quests, grind when I am really bored and do other more useful things with my time. With a free month thrown down by SE I'm just using this phase like I did the Beta. Play to get the hang of it, then wait until release...FFXIV in essence hasn't been released yet. As for those crying about people crying...seriously?
Basics are
1. If you want to play the game play it.
2. if you don't want to play, keep your account active and read up on updates as they show up and cancel when you have to pay if you're not satisfied.
3. this game is never going to compare to any other MMO.

If I was going to worry about that I would still be playing the original Everquest since no one has really improved on that standard way of playing(my opinion. Flames from this point are your opinions). Other MMO's have just made games look a ton better and usually made the gameplay and lore a lot easier to deal with for the "I want it now" gamers. Pay to try something out and it sucks...it happens. DDO, Conan, Eve online, City of Heroes...the list goes on. You only find something that suits you if you try, and you WILL find games that aren't your style or don't fit with your playstyle.

If you don't agree with me, refer to my sig

Very lame Red Hot Thursdays.

There are a lot of legitimate issues with the game and Square Enix NEEDS to hear them. I don't know how situations are on your servers but two weeks ago we had an average of 1200 ppl on just checking each night at 8pm on the dot. Last week it down down to 1000(rounding down to the nearest 100). This week, its down to 800 so far.

The problem with that 800 figure is when I run around major cities like Ul'dah and Limsa Lima is that I'll see 30-50 afk NA/JP players near the repair npc. Another 40-50 afk NA/JP players near the guildleve vendors and who knows how many in the many market wards.

Camp Horizon for example used to have 30 people crowded around the aethryl crystal. Now its more like 7. When you go to the level 30 leves areas, theres also like 7. I can't help but ask where all the players went if they are not a the 20-30 zones? ... ...

No offense intended to blind loyal fanboys, but, if December's update is when all our woes will be fixed. At the rate, it's going there won't be much of a player population left to enjoy December's update.

Then tell SE about the problems, they have a bug report form on the lodestone, that's what it's for. I'm sure submitting bugs through the proper channels is vastly more effective at notifying SE of issues than posting one some third party forums were your voice may not even get heard except by other gamers.

Seriously, your argument makes no sense. I don't care if so and so doesn't like the game because of numerous bugs. SE does though, so tell them via the proper channels. Instead of cluttering these and other forums with whining and *********

Personally, I'd like to see the ban hammer busted out for the biggest offenders. Some people around here and on other FFXIV forums don't post anything meaningful only useless negative rants and troll posts.

I'd like to see the banhammer fall on blind fanbois who stick up for devs when they knowingly release a substandard product and charge for it. Maybe then quality development might become the norm in the mmorpg genre, rather than the exception.

I have sent communications in the past to SE and they didn't even sent an automated form response email to tell me they had received my message.

I'm pretty sure SE just plain ignores any mail being sent their way.

Your post to me makes it come across that people should not complain about the game at all. Also it gives me the impression that to you people who do complain about the game are whiners and nothing they say can add anything to the discussion.

I like the first post, as it is very informative. The last post is good, as long as they don't do any changes whatsoever to the stats. I won't even give my thoughts on the second one.
