The Version Update Has Arrived!

Comprehensive Version Update Details

Welll folks, it's finally upon us.  The first of the two part major content patches promised by Square Enix.  Many players have been actively voicing their frustrations and concerns with FFXIV, and SE looks to have done an excellent job in taking in feedback and making the necessary adjustments.

As mentioned, this is the first of the two part content update.  The next is slated to be released in mid-December; just weeks away!  This patch has been heavily promoted by SE lately, who have already revealed much of it's details.  However, there are also lots of adjustments that we didn't know about!

Discuss this on the ZAM Forums!

The patch had some really good points from the very needed UI, made the game so much better with server lag way down. The auto sort is very nice, and the game it self has great potential, started off out the hole amazing. Now to get real, crafting needs to get a list in it, I mean this is not the 90s anymore, to write it down or have a web site up in background, common really, just put a list in. No story line so far that has depth in it, I mean very little, and quest lines are short, you have got to keep the clients interested SE whats going on, wheres the af1, wheres the windurst m1-1,1-2, etc you guys had a great line on ff11. HNM camping is a thing of the past, force pop is where its at, but ff11 was amazing in its day, from znm, dynam, hnm, sea, sky, so much to do, so little time. I think everyone nows what I mean. But in the modern world if you wanna make money, I don't have 12hrs a day to be on this game, so if you wanna get paid you gotta make the clients happy, i mean not bend over and take it like WoW but make it worth our time. The sp is so messed up, and even if you did grind on lowbie mobs your dura is gone, raise the dura on items, Ive been playing 2,5 months I think and not hardcore like they said they wanted, my max guy 33, what you think I wanna spend 8-9 months getting to 50 at 150sp a mob. No end game so far, ok give them some time to do it cause of the early release. Walking from point to point, I did not like WoW to much, to kiddish for me. But I have to say flight points help everyone, more people play, can do rl issues why your toon is in flight to somewhere. Summoning stones, major help in a game, not everyone has all the time in the world, let your team mates help you get there. I love the graphics in ff14, but you gotta get dif gear out there, clients pay 13.00/m for this, they wanna look dif. than everyone, its human nature.Thats one of the reasons I left 11 after 6-7 years, was everything looked the same, but there was so much to do. I have liked every ff game, from ff7 to this, and I have them all, I'm a huge fan, I want to see 14 just take the cake on mmo's. In order to do it, they gotta get the client in mind, stop thinking of how to make side money, look at wow, the game is stupid easy, same thing every week, but millions play at 15.00/m. Its the flight points, summon stone, gear change, mob variety, quest's, all things to help the working people out, so we can pay to play a game while where busy. Raptors for 15 lvls, that was wonderful whoever made that call SE. No sc's or mb's, the area's are pretty small, with nothing in them. I would love to see ff14 take the cake once again, but if they cant get some stuff added in this game, to help overall clients, its gonna die before it ever hits ps3 in march, I mean what does SE want stick to its guns and let the game fail, or get the clients in mind.
Bugs

I've noticed a few bugs with this patch. Some I have experienced and some have happened to my friends. The first thing I noticed was occasionally some or all of my skills get greyed out. No this is not a stamina issue. I had to relog and then they worked again. Secondly, my friend has had a problem where the recently equipped gear icon, where it diminishes its properties for a short time...that icon wont go away for him lol. He has had it for 9 days so I dont contribute it to update but it is a bug nonetheless. And the last post-update bug I have seen was today. A friend and I were killing doblyns in Thanlan (rank 34-36, decent xp for those of you who dont know what to do without efts). We had killed one, only it didnt die. It stayed claimed and just sat there. So we continued to thrash on him unloading our weaponskills on him. And still nothing so we disbanded party. I was still trigger happy so I kept fighting him. then all of a sudden he dissappeared and neither of us got any exp or sp from the fight. Apart from that I hear about game crashes more frequently although I dont have that problem.

As far as the update goes I really like it. Though I feel that now solo play is better, the party dynamic is broken/hindered. At least for big groups. Some argue that you can still get good sp, and yes you can get decent sp, but not great sp anymore. A mob that could yield you 500SP now will yield 150sp per battle. When I solo or duo I can get 80-120 in a fraction of the time. So yea, I think party bonus needs to get looked at more closely. Overall a great update!

Downloaded, installed, started up...WOW! Everything was sooooo much better than before the patch! And then...I started pt'ing... =(
75 sp off an IT mob with a pt of 4...BS! Why'd they have to NERF the SP!?!?! Granted, while soloing it's great to get consistent sp gains, but what the hell happened to the party bonuses!?!? After doing all of the leves about 50+ times a piece, it's kinda nice to just go out and kill stuff with a party and rank up. At least, it used to be. Now, what's the point? If I get the same amount of SP for killing a blue mob solo as I do killing a red mob in a party?
Aside from that it's great, but, now I don't know that there's enough content to keep me interested in playing until the Dec. update.
I do have to say I've been a fan of this game since I started playing the beta, and was willing to put up with lag and UI issues because I figured "Hey, it's early in this MMO's evolution. Certain things will change and they'll fix all the bugs." The absolute freedom given to players of this game is the one thing that has kept me coming back to play this game almost every day since launch. But, now there doesn't seem to be much incentive left for me to make the most of the social experience this game could offer... =(

good for crafters and low rank fighters.
# Nov 27 2010 at 3:34 PM Rating: Decent
ok. first off all u people saying ur happy with the update wait till get up in rank besides conj. im rank 36 mrd trying to rank up is impossible for me now. yellow mobs only give me 100-130 sp each and takes me down to like 30 hp so then i have to wait for me health so grind solo for me is impossible. so then i tried to party up well it seems the party bonus is gone went and party with about 8 people on grass raptors which is idle for rank 30-50 to grind on. i was getting 300-500 per now im only getting 150 so yes the game is great for all u low ranks so stop making the game seem better the more u saw oh its great the less there gonna fix i would like to skill continue to play also
nice~

Nov. Update
# Nov 27 2010 at 7:55 AM Rating: Decent
I have to commend SE for fixing what was a horrible problem with the UI, which was the lag. It seems I have just been upgraded from dial up to Cable! I think that everyone else must feel the same, along with Inv. sort function, lowered anima cost for TP, and increased inv. space, these are most definitely the clear winners.

Now to my observations & criticism. This update should have happened a month after launch, not almost 2 and half months since launch. At 2 months out, there should have been some contents update, ie quests, new mobs, items, etc. I think the timing could have been better to keep more of the subscriber population up since launch.

By the way, this update has made me decide to keep playing as with how well SE did fix things with the UI, I'm looking forward to the Dec. update being great as well, and I will get to enjoy the new function to search for items in wards and kill some NM?! FYI for people who think i'm bashing. If we players cannot give our observations or criticisms, devs or SE will not know what we want or think, and will not be able to improve the game to our likings or address the issues we have with this game. So relax some of you and don't assume any type of criticism of this game is bashing, it is merely our matter of opinion for a monthly service that we pay for. Again, thank you SE and can't wait for next update!

While theirs still a decent amount to complain about and still little content, SE proved they can abolish a lot of the games beta feel with nothing more than efficient design change. Scrapping the old SP gain system in favor of something more traditional shows a lot of integrity to quickly recognize which new ideas just aren't panning out. I really appreciate a much less stubborn approach than that of FFXI.

They have successfully shown the capability to move the game away from that beta feel, and with one more update to go before i have to actually start paying for the game SE's bad decision is nothing more than a speed bump in my eyes. I look forward to putting this all behind us and i'm very much looking forward to content updates over core updates.

Heres to SE and hoping the players that left can regain some trust and patience with SE. Now if you'll excuse me i'm going to go back to playing FFXIV.
yay

All the problems I've had with the game have been solved. Thank you. I will be playing this game full time now. It can only get better from here. :')

Oh and, whoever's on besaid. Stop being stupid robot-like silent pricks. Seriously. Ignoring people doesnt make you cool.

Since I've installed it, it plays like utter crap on my system now. And what's worse is I have added an additional 4GB of ram. I tried lowering the detail and it's really choppy. It is not making any sense. Besides the new detail settings, everything is the same and my settings remained that i had previous. Any suggestions?

On the other hand, the menu systems seem incredibly more responsive.

What's the deal with being ganged up on by aldgoats and antlings while you're trying to do your leve quests for Camp Horizon. The goats very rarely attacked you now it's like their defending your quest targets. The antlings are in leve zones right next to your targets too. While they don't hit as hard as they used to they shouldn't be in leve areas.Everything seems more agressive than before, but dying during a quest because of this is a bit annoying.

Looks like the death of eft parties and 15 man groups to get 500 sp off of every mob. Anyone know where to get good SP 34+?

From eating and drinking all day. Finally sit down to relax and play some Final Fantasy and it starts downloading the patch. :) Thanks Square :)

By the way, to all the people talking about the slow download speeds. Trying using a torrent program for the download. If you're somewhat savy with a pc start downloading the patch in the game and then close the game. Go into the folder My Documents -> My Games -> FFXIV -> Downloads -> (there will just be one or two weird fold names here) -> each folder has the torrents for each patch. Just open the torrent in your own torrent program (I prefer uTorrent) and you can download the patch with faster speeds. After it downloads just put the .patch file from the folder where the torrent downloaded it to to the identically named folder in the My Games -> FFXIV -> Downloads folder.

Trick I learned in beta ;)

No 50 leves or NM's (From what I have seen).

Leveling seems far to quick now..

However, UI updates are great but not ideal. Want to buy content.
what?

Not that I am complaining but didn't they just say the patch would be on the 26th? I may have read that wrong and it was the lodestone site they were talking about. Ether way I hope to be very pleased when this patch is done downloading. O ya happy thanksgiving y'all if you celebrate it if not happy update day. :)

So as the title puts, great patch. I'm glad SE is listening and making the game better :) There's only one issue I keep getting server disconnects, I mean all the time. Everything is amazing though, I love the new skill points. Makes grinding less aggravating =D but anyway just posting wondering if anyone else is having this problem :(

I was happy with the game, this just makes it better. No more I/O lag, recipes that make sense and an extra 20 inventory and 20 on my retainer.

Only thing I'm waiting for now is the ability to have more than 1 retainer and life will be grand.
Oh boy

If you haven't opened your ports for the downloader in your router, you're gonna get slow downloads. After I opened mine, my speeds beat torrents by a fairly large margin.

Don't get me wrong... I am very happy. There IS a functional UI WOW! lol.

But... WHERE is the search function in the wards... and the "last 8 recipes" function for crafting.

Oh well, it is really good progress.

I think those things will follow soon. I feel the SE "powers that be" seen only dollar signs when they released this game "way too early", they did a lot from alpha to release, but not enough, and now the dev's, who had to "follow orders" are probably working overtime to make it the game they intended in the first place. Just might take a while to get there.

SE needed a Q4 bump to revenue, but they nearly shot themselves in the foot. I realize they wanted to be out before Cataclysm as well.

This game was a beta until yesterday. Kudos to SE for a flawless patch day. Many MMOs either break 10 things when fixing 4, or have a day of downtime after a patch. Was flawless from what I experienced!

Read the patch notes please, it doesn't states that this thing has been added, also Search functionality ware supposed to be in December path, though we have addition to equip retainers with items in bazaars so people will now visually know who is selling what. Please do read the patch notes ;) http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=583c4fa193bb35b8e246f15e4fe3e9388613fc28

As for recipe history i won't comment since i have insufficient knowledge on topic "When this was suppose to be added"
New patch rocks!

Maybe some of my friends may migrate back. ;_;

This patch seems bad *** but I notice something is missing. SE said that they will add a item search engine for the wards but there is nothing like this mention in the patch notes, I really hope they did...
Retainer changes
# Nov 25 2010 at 7:18 PM Rating: Decent
The item search feature was not scheduled to appear until the dec. version update, with further market improvements coming the following version update after the new year.
