FFXIV A Beginners Guide to Eorzea (11/29/2010)

This week's Q&A session from The Lodestone seeks to assist newcomers to Eorzea by covering the basics of the bazaar system and how to go about selling and purchasing items.

Discuss in the ZAM FFXIV Forums or read on for details!

Q. I'd like to try my hand at one of these so-called "bazaars".  What are they, and how do I set one up?

A. Bazaars are small-scale, personal, mercantile endeavors that allow players to sell items in their inventory (Sell Item), offer payment to buy items they desire (Purchase Item), and seek out talented Disciples of the Hand to repair their damaged gear (Seek Repairs). In addition to those maintained by players, bazaars may also be set up and entrusted to retainer NPCs. Below we outline the step-by-step process of establishing a bazaar, covering each of the aforementioned three options. Further details on purchasing an item directly from another bazaar, as well as how to set up a retainer bazaar, will be covered in a future Topics post.

  • Sell Item
    • Step 1 - First, navigate to main menu >> Inventory.  From here, select the item to be sold, and then the Sell Item command.
  •
    • Step 2 - Select the quantity of the item to be sold.
  •
    • Step 3 - Select the manner in which the item is to be sold - in single units or in a set.
      • Unit Price - Individual price for each item
      • Set Price - Lump price for all the items together
        • Set price cannot be selected when the item quantity is one.
  •
    • Step 4 - Set the sale price
If Set Price was selected, the price input is the total cost for all of the items.
The tax levied on the sale of an item is determined when the price is set, and is automatically deducted when the item is sold.  This means the final incoming gil amount will be the set sale prices minus the tax.  Rates of taxation are reduced within market wards compared to other areas.
  •
    • Step 5 - Once the quantity, method of sale, and price are decided, select Accept.
Items placed up for sale in this manner will be moved from a players inventory to their bazaar.  A bazaar may contain up to ten items at a time.
  •
    •
      • Selling by the Unit
  •
    •
      • Selling by the Set
Putting an item up for sale in a bazaar will cause the bazaar icon to be displayed next to a player's display name.
  • Purchase Item
    • Step 1 - First, navigate to main menu >> Inventory.  From here, select the item to be purchased, then the Purchase Item command.  Only items already in a player's possession can be sought for purchase.
  •
    • Step 2 - Set the quantity of the item to be purchased.  The sought quantity cannot exceed the quantity currently possessed by the player.
  •
    • Step 3 - Set the gil price or item reward to offer for the selected item and select Accept.
Seeking to purchase an item via the bazaar will move the offered gil or items from a player's inventory to their bazaar.  The Purchase Item option requires two of a bazaar's ten slots.
  • Seek Repairs
    • Step 1 - First, navigate to main menu >> Inventory.  From here, select the item to be repaired, and then the Seek Repairs command.  The Seek Repairs option cannot be selected for equipped or undamaged items.
  •
    • Step 2 - Set the gil price or item reward to offer to repair the selected item and select Accept.
Seeking to repair an item via the bazaar will move the offered gil or items from a player's inventory to their bazaar.  The Seek Repairs option requires two of a bazaar's ten slots.

It seems that if SE wants to solve everyone's gripes about this market-ward system, they need to add something to the upcoming "Search" feature. A list of a). how many people are selling the specific item, and b). the average selling price of that item. BOOM! There you go! This will work well for many reasons, mainly ... IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!
If you have an item you want sold fast just to get rid of it, sell for less. If there are many people selling the same items as you, undercut a bit. I know, I know, I've heard soooo many people talk about AH systems where all they do is complain that undercutters are ruining their chances to sell gear, but, guess what? That's how business works. What's to NOT get about this system?!?! REALLY!! I'm guessing most of the people who say this system sucks either didn't take High-School level economics, or they are really just complaining about how much time it takes to find 1 little item. If the latter's the case, well, I feel your pain, really I do. I too have spent multiple hours trying to find items and materials either to find it and not be able to afford it, or to end up deciding to spend even more hours farming for said materials on my own (when my DoW/M rank allows). But, once this search feature is added, I, hopefully, will not have to worry about it anymore. And as for AH helping to level out prices for things. I call BS.
If you don't see what I see just think for a moment. Remember back in September, when we all started playing, and Bronze Haubergen first appeared on the market? Average price? 250k! Now? 40-50k. Nuff said. It's supply and demand.

The one thing about this game that I do not like, however, is...THE MARKET WARD SYSTEM! >< Why the hell can I only seem to find low level gear in the market wards?!?! And why, oh, WHY is that NPC selling an Iron Short-Sword for 20x the cost of materials?!?!? This is one thing where SE fell short, IMO. If you're going to let people rank up from 1-15 in a day, at least make some lower level gear available instead of just this rank 1 hempen crap that becomes damaged after 1 hit from a Red mob.

Anyway, I'm done ranting now...and, just in case I led you to believe otherwise, I FREAKIN LOVE THIS GAME! ^^

Cheers! And here's hoping for another great update in Dec.!
CAN I GET A FUNCTIONING MARKET!!!????

Been out of the game since late September. I can't imagine returning as long as their isn't an Auction House. It wasn't the main issue, obviously.. but it's a deal breaker for me. After having to spend hours to find one item, and hoping between cities endlessly.. it's just not worth it.

Maybe they should make a Jeuno like city and set an Auction House there and keep the wards for the minor cities. Granted, I'd never shop at them unless I was desperate, but so many things about this game just seem to be over complicated.
stupid

You too can sell things in your baazar with these 30 simple steps.....

AH please thx, bai...

This system is just ridiculous. Walking into the market wards is a joke as is trying to find ANYTHING.

I like the Baazar system as a SUPPLEMENT to an AH, not a stand alone. It does not work and takes too much work while doing nothing but overly congesting areas in the game.

Yeah Yeah... search is coming.... Putting band aids on a broken, ludicrous system is bad.

I wish I had something nice to say... Maybe after the next patch..

I'm with you guys. The original idea i think was to get a large amount of gear crafted and circulating but it's so hard to deal with the bazaar system i never have re-sold any gear i'm done with!

We need an AH pronto!

And yes, keep the bazaar system to supplement. it's nice for repairs and purchasing. those are cool features. but yeah, without an AH u don't get much re-selling of low level gear and most people now are only crafting and selling upper level gear. makes gearing up additional low rank jobs tougher...

Oh... and PLEASE PUT UR RETAINER IN THE APPROPRIATE WARD!!!!!!!
I'm tired of searching through a tone of people selling ore or food to find a robe or something else unrelated. move ur retainer!

Kind of got to agree there.

Since coming back a week ago I have fallen in love with this game. I love crafting, the mix of jobs, the sick hardcore complexity of actually having to craft the basic parts to get a simple item. Its superb. The battles are fun, NMs are on the way with a host of battle adjustments. Great!

However, the retainer system makes me want to run onto the free-way and throw my monitor at a moving truck. It's like SE are going through the evolution of economics from the Middle Ages, knowing one day they'll end up with ebay anyway.

Pls add it soon SE, please!!! All I want is a level 7 doming hammer. Why does that have to be so hard?

I've been lobbying for this class since closed beta.

Main hand: Credit Card.

Seriously though, as much xp as this game gives crafters, some shopping XP wouldn't be so far fetched.
