FFXIV's Starlight Celebration

Today on The Lodestone Square Enix announced the first holiday celebration for Eorzea!  Discuss in the ZAM FFXIV Forums or read on for details!

History

The history of Eorzea is a dark one, stained with the blood of those who have fallen victim to innumerable episodes of strife. Several generations ago, one such episode erupted into a series of battles that not only claimed countless lives, but left thousands homeless and without food. Yet none were hit harder than the children of Ishgard, who, in addition to being left hungry and alone, were forced to endure the chilling alpine winds of Coerthas in order to simply survive.

But it is oft said, the darker the history, the brighter the acts of good do shine.

Each night, while on their routine patrols of the city, a handful of Ishgardian knights would seek out these children and offer them room and board within the walls of their company barracks. This, of course, was strictly forbidden by the knight's charter, and so the kind men and women, many of them once orphans themselves, would disguise the children in the jackets of their scarlet uniforms, allowing them to slip into the building unnoticed.

After many months, the fighting eventually subsided and peace once again returned to the realm. As Ishgard rebuilt, the number of orphans in the city-state eventually dwindled back to zero, and soon the wartime tradition was all but forgotten...

Until a group of former orphans gathered together in order to pay tribute to the knights who rescued them, and ensure that no one ever forgot their remarkable deeds. On the coldest week of each year, they would dress up in brilliant scarlet uniforms and pass out gifts to the children of the realm, in turn, passing along the happiness that they once received on a starlit night, many years past.

And that tradition lives on today in the Starlight Celebration.

fncking whiners... it takes NO TIME and even LESS SKILL to get to L20 in weaving. STFU&DIAF if all you want to do is whine. In fact, it will take you LESS TIME to actually LEVEL to 20 than it would for you to vomit your nonsense on here about how awful it is to earn something you want instead of just being given to you because you are some self-entitled, self-deserving, self-absorbed b!7ch-bawling waste.

FFS go back to WoW where whining gets you anything you want and leave the "harder" mmo's to those who want to do more than smash their face on the keyboard to accomplish something.

"Receive a twinklebox? Why not pass it along to one of Eorzea's less-fortunate children? There are NPCs in each of the six hamlets collecting donations, and presenting good Samaritans with Dream attire."

Meaning that you don't have to craft them... let's just hope that these boxes drop often enough for non-crafter to get the pieces... if you enjoy running around of course ^^
Even if you want to craft them, it is not so tough/long to go to a craft rank around 15, just do leves and maybe use all the crap you used to sell to NPC to level it... agree with you people though, it shouldn't be mandatory to craft
One last point, it is not EX gear so why not asking someone to craft it for you if you have the materials? I know there are many nice people on the servers that will be glad to help you, if just for the skill points they can get out of it :D

Merry Christmas to you all!

It's amazing how many people judge something before actually knowing ALL of the details.

I think I'll put my two cents in once I actually play around with it.
Crafting Fantasy XIV?!

It's nice to see all the new stuff finally coming to the game but I really don't like how craft centered EVERYTHING seems to be at this point. I hope they change that.
for non-crafters

Not sure but does the above imply that non-crafters can still get the dream attire ?

Ive been trying very hard not to bash this game because like a lot of people I see massive potential with it. But yet again SE fails... Yay!!lets make our first event so that only 3 crafts can participate in making items for it!! Lets forget about the others and make them have to find a high level culinarian. I was hoping for at least something fun from this event, guess that isnt happening...

I always loved all of the Events in XI, and I have to admit, when I saw the "Starlight Celebration" posted on the Loadstone my breath caught for a second and I got super excited.
When I saw the return of the "Dream" gear, my excitement doubled!
Then, I read on...and I have to agree with you, northff.
Although my own crafting skills will probably be enough to complete most, if not all of these items, I don't feel I should have to! I don't usually think it's a good idea to give someone a gift for Christmas, have them open it and be like "Uhhhh, what is this?" "It's a guitar, stupid! But you have to BUILD it before you can ENJOY it! HAHAHAH!!!"
Ummm, no. However, after the effects of these items becomes known, I foresee the potential for making some SERIOUS gil come mid-2011. LOL!

All that said, I am still hoping for the best for XIV's first event since launch.
