FFXIV Late-December Version Update (12/20/2010)

Late-December Version Update

From The Lodestone:

The final version update of the year will introduce the item search function, which players may use to search through retainer bazaars in market wards to locate specific items. The date and time of the version update are as follows.

Date and Time

Tuesday, December 21, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Item Search Function

This version update marks the first of several that will introduce improvements to item-based searches. The features to be added this time are listed below.

  • A search option that tells players how many items of a certain type are being sold in the market area with which that item type is associated.
  • Retainers returned by a search now have a distinguishing icon displayed above their head.

* Searches can be conducted by selecting the item search option at the entrance to any market, or from within any individual ward, row, or den.

With the introduction of the item search feature, it will now be significantly easier for players to locate specific items. We will continue to improve this system with further enhancements such as keyword-based searches, the ability to show the retainers selling an item at the lowest prices for searches returning numerous hits as with synthesis materials, and more. Concrete details regarding such information will be released in future Topics posts here on the Lodestone as they become available.

These changes sound promising and it honestly looks like SE's new development team leads might be making a difference. It seems they are making a lot of quick-fixes that would take an experienced programmer little no time at all to implement. Hopefully soon, they will start tackling some of the harder more involved issues...especially making the game more fun and adding content.

An more-user-friendly, less-buggy working beautiful world is a great start. If we could just get some content thrown into that world, I'd be a bit happier. I wouldn't even mind some instances/dungeons we could do for say 25-100 fraction point's a successfully completed dungeon(as something to do when we are done our guildleves). Based of what class you took into the dungeon.
bloody brilliant

This is a very promising start to updrading the Market System. It is still encumbent on the player that their retainers are situated in the proper wards or the the items being sold will not show up in the search. But as I said a very promising start. I am sure future updates will refine the search function to the point where you can find an item no matter where it is. I can wait for that. Good start SE.

I like the idea and even the "distinguishing icon" over the person and i too think this will improve on the search woes... However, a function like this cant be utilized for just 1 problem. Why not make it for friends, party members/seekers, search comments, things like that and by it I mean "distinguishing icons over the head of the respective avatar". I dont want to crap on the update memo, but this is a mmo (the latest and greatest) that has plenty of solo capabilities, but it still is a MMO. And that means networking in every way not just retainers but players out there adventuring in Eorza. I just feel so hopeless that I know people want to team up and communicate out there just like me but there is no way to identify them or me not even a simple search function. These icons (and of course some sort of search query) could help in multiple ways. Especially if SE does intend to never go the AH way.

Lets think about applying this concept to every search factor (maybe put a search filter in our menu) to add or hide icons repectively and to reduce or supply the player with an icon display. All we have are bazaar and linkshell icons, okay, but people are usually more complex than that. And there is no real adventurer search menu so what do we do to comunicate to each other... Lodestone forums? I dont think it would be such a bad idea to display icon over the heads of avatars to inform everyone on just that, different icons for different queries. Or we can just use them for the broken market wards and let the retainer have all the fun.
Looking forward to it.

WoOt! go go search and an icon above the people that have the item you searched for. should make it much more easier and maybe we will see more retainers in the wards. hopefully it just goes up from here.
I'm happy

This seems like a reasonable compromise. A search function and substantial incentives to sell things in the correct ward. Even if it is not exactly what you wanted you have to admit it is significantly better than what we had.

This search feature is exactly what I wanted. I'd never even considered the improvements they'd mentioned (keyword searches, searching for all the materials of a receipe at once, lowest price search). This announcement makes me gleeful.
Hope for the best

@illuminarok, dam at least wait till they install it and give it a chance then bash on it if its not what you would expect it to be lol...@cortain, yeah i agree they should of just put a AH lol, but lets see what kind of changes this new system they have got and hope for the best...as for me im i really dont care if they use the AH or Market system as long as its funtionable, navigatable and enjoyable lol
I hope it burns...

I hope it crashes and burns because if it doesn't then I'm out.
Bad auction house

This just sounds like a primitive auction house in the works except in an auction house you don't have to go searching for the retainer and later will already have a price set by whoever is selling at the cheapest once that search function is added. So why not just make it easier for players by adding an auction house now?

I agree completely; they were pushing for immersion but imo this is actually only causing major hiccups in immersion; if they were going this far they might as well add an AH. No complaints, this is certainly better then nothing. Im sure tho a major chunk of the player base left simply because of how wasteful finding items or selling them was... I personally just went with it. But very often i could see how much of a game killer it could be. The hopes were theree but the majority of potential players was retarded and extremely shortsighted.
On the fence.

I am stoked about how this is going to turn out. It's a win-win situation. Either it works and continues to work and we can finally get what we need to actually play and enjoy the game, or it crashes and burns and they start from scratch with a system that actually has a solid foundation. I'm not saying it needs to be an AH...but they work for the most part and are the best "Pro vs. Con" ratio market system to date. I am not in any way discouraging inovation, only encouraging success. And let's not turn this into another AH and MW troll fest. It accomplishes nothing.
