Chains of Eternity: Walking Through the Veil

Holly "Windstalker" Longdale and Carlos "Gninja" Mora took us through the Ethernere.

The expansion features nine new dungeons, each with its own unique geometry. Most of these dungeons are in the Ethernere, such as Temple of the Faceless or the Dreadcutter, while others are scattered throughout Norrath in places such as Wurmbone Crag in Skyfire Mountains.

At a closer look into some of the dungeons we were struck by the unique variety of creatures in each. Temple of the Faceless challenges players by pitting them against Baelon of Thule, a giant creature with a huge mace and a bit of an attitude (watch the video at the end!). In Harrow's End Holly Longdale told us that were-creatures draw their power from Drinal. Inside the Wurmbone Crag we were able to see the Ashlok running and jumping in the distance, and learned that they were actually particle effects to give atmosphere for the zone. Finally within Wurmbone's End we met the Ashlok up close and discovered that there may be a piece of the Shissar to be unearthed here.

The expansion brings even more to players with new augmentations called Spirit Stones. These green slot augments can be only placed in necklaces and rings, and will grow in power based on certain conditions (such as experience from non-trivial kills or spending time in a certain location). Players of EverQuest may find that Spirit Stones seem a bit familiar— they "level up", akin to how evolving items do from that game. Ethereal weapons will make a return, though they will only be level 95 ones that are extremely rare drops in any Chains of Eternity zone. They are considered to be the best weapons in the expansion. High level guilds will have access to new amenities: the Chronomage (guild level 92) and Prophet (deity altar vendor—guild level 95).

Some non-expansion news was discussed as well. As announced just two days ago, the coin limit for Free and Silver players will be removed, effective next Tuesday. Holly Longdale is hopeful that players may see some Player Studio items within the next few weeks. Krono sales are progressing as expected and the team is watching broker prices and rate of consumption, but no specific numbers were given. Finally, EverQuest II just celebrated its 8th anniversary, yesterday, November 8!

The expansion is anticipated to be launched on Tuesday, November 13. We'll see you on the other side of the veil!
