FFXIV: ARR at 1.5 Million Registered Players

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn continues to grow with more players and content patch 2.1.

There's no sign of stopping Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn growth, as the game recently has skyrocketed to 1.5 million registered players spanning several nations on both the PC and PS3 platform. Square Enix has definitely improved its game when it comes to MMO design and there's a ton of goodies around the corner for the wanderers of Eorzea.

Content patch 2.1 is stuffed with what players have been waiting patiently for; PVP integration, newer dungeons, and player housing. For those of you currently knee-deep in the game, save as much gil as you can, because housing will definitely consume your wallet. Additionally, players will soon be able to transfer their characters to different servers - no more pining to jump ship to join your friend's guild on Ramuh. Cashing in for a PlayStation 4? Beta testing begins in February of next year.

When I read over 1.5 mil I didn't think that was too much, but then realized in the world of online games that might be one of the top 5 MMO/RPG types out there right now! I know some people who have stopped until 2.1 patch for more end game content, but if you thought Titan or Coil was hard, the crystal tower will further test our team-building skills by expanding to 24 man- instances! :O To give perspective on the difficulty, Titan HM is tough enough people will pay to have a group with good teamwork and skills let them piggyback through the fight to a win. In the Binding Coil of Bahamut, one death in your 8 man team is almost a certain wipe with very few exceptions. It is difficult enough however, that there are still no groups who will merc out the Coil fights just yet.

I did wonder however, what was the source of the 1.5m subscribers number, and could you elaborate on the context of that such as how that fits into the MMOspace?

Crystal Tower will be an interesting test as far as communication and coordination goes. Right now, a majority of the difficulty is coming from inexperienced players. Give it a few months, and Titan (even with today's gear lvls) will be no problem.

FFXIV is the FIRST MMO for a lot of people, because of the brand name, which is awesome! But it's going to lead to a little more difficulty dealing with endgame.
Sweet!
