Brewfest (WoW)

Brewfest is a holiday loosely based on the Bavarian festival of Oktoberfest. There are many quests, novelty items, pony kegs, and even mounts, like the Swift Brewfest Ram or the Great Brewfest Kodo. You'll need to complete a quest and kill a really obnoxious boss to have a chance at the mount but it's well worth the effort.

2008 Dates

Starting on September 20th, 2008, the event is currently scheduled to continue through October 4th, 2008. The main events are located outside of both Ironforge and Orgrimmar. To supplement this event, there are also beer gardens found outside all major cities. Watch out for the goblin bruisers checking for sobriety.

Celebrated by both Horde and the Alliance, Brewfest is a special time in the Azerothian year to enjoy the harvest with those dwarven favorites - pretzels, cheese, and beer! The breweries of Thunderbrew and Barleybrew, along with recent newcomers, the Ogres, all display their wares outside all major cities in an attempt to outdo each other with their fermented concoctions. In beer gardens scattered around Azeroth, adventurers are invited to sit back and sample these wares and take a break from the constant struggles of daily life.

Ram Racing

Several of the quests also involve racing rams, including the barking runs and the high speed keg delivery. The ram racing event mechanics do not depend on character level.

The Rental Racing Ram lasts for a total of 4 minutes. During the keg delivery daily quest, the time limit for the ram is increased by 30 seconds for each keg delivered. If you gallop the whole way, a single keg trip can take 40-60 seconds, meaning that expert ram riders can stretch out the four-minute keg run to 8-10 minutes, getting up to 20 Brewfest Prize Tokens or more.

The rams have 5 speeds, accessed through the Ram Racing Reins. Using the reins will cause the ram to speed up incrementally. Do this often enough and its speed increases to a full gallop. Once you hit the next speed you will need to click on the reins on a regular basis to stay in a speed range (you may want to hotbar the reins icon to make this easier). the faster or more often you click, the faster your mount will go and leaving the reins unclicked for a short timeframe will cause your mount to slow down. One thing to be aware of - if you get into a Canter speed, you will be given a stacking debuff called Ram Fatigue which tracks your rams' fatigue. If the debuff reaches 100, your ram becomes overly exhausted and will slowly walk until this debuff fades (after 15 seconds).

Ram's Speed % of Player's Speed Ram's Fatigue Details
Exhausted
14%
-15 after 15 seconds
Occurs if you stack the Ram Fatigue debuff beyond 100

Ram Racing Tips

When you do the keg deliveries, you will see a series of apple barrels along your route. These barrels will remove the Ram Fatigue debuff if you ride near or over them and allow the counter to start at zero again. By doing this, you can actually maximize your token gain from the keg delivery daily quest. In fact, if you use the 2 barrels closest to the path and the third in the ram pen itself, you can remain in gallop mode for virtually the entire ride.

If your system tends to experience lag however, you may find that riding past the barrels doesn't always dispel the debuff. If this happens, simply "bump" the barrel for around a half second or so and then just move around it.

Dark Iron Party Crashers

Every half-hour, a series of drills run by Dark Iron Dwarves will crash the party at the main Brewfest camps at both Ironforge and Orgrimmar, burrowing up from under the surface to crack open and spill out a small contingent of dwarves. To stop these obnoxious party crashers, there are a series of beer mugs on the ground that you will need to hit the dwarves with to stop them from stealing the free brew.

Tips to stop the crashers

There are NPCs representing each brewery. By staying in range of them while using a Complimentary Brewfest Sampler will cause them to toss you another one. Use this item in order to take a drink and throw the mug. If there are Dark Irons around, it may hit one of them and knock them out. The mug works even with no Dark Irons around; it just flies over and lands on the ground. Each time you throw the mug, you lose it, but another one will quickly be thrown to you by a barker provided you are somewhere nearby. Throwing the mugs several times gets you drunk also.

The mugs last 15 minutes, logged in or not. They are handed out from the Brewery Barkers whenever players loot a free sampler from the tables.

On occasion, large silver mugs will be placed on the ground. Walking through one of these mugs will give the player a whirlwind attack buff for several seconds. When one such mug is placed on the ground, a barker will yell out "try some of this super brew".

During the 2007 Brewfest event, a stacking mark buff was awarded based on knocking out Dark Iron Dwarves, which could then be turned into tickets. In 2008 however, this is replaced by a daily quest offered by a remaining gear of the Dark Iron Diggers which awards 15 Brewfest Prize Tokens if you're able to fight off the attackers

Mounts

New with Brewfest 2008, the epic Brewfest mounts are no longer available with tokens. Players now have to do a quest that takes them deep into Blackrock Depths to defeat Coren Direbrew. This is a boss encounter whose method of summoning is quite similar to the Headless Horseman.

While the mount is not a guaranteed drop, each mount has been changed to no longer be faction-specific. This means that both Horde and Alliance players now have an equal chance of looting either the Great Brewfest Kodo or the Swift Brewfest Ram. [2] [3]

Notes

  1. ^ Slightly faster than a player walking backwards
  2. ^ Players who completed the quest to unlock mount purchasing in 2007 can still buy the rams without having to go to Blackrock Depths.
  3. ^ Recent information suggests that the mounts are not a one time only opportunity for players and players may attempt the same boss again, albeit with someone else who has the quest, to have a chance at the other mount.
