There are actually 4 smudges on the ground in this area. Cuburt spawns on the smudge next to the text written on the floor.

Just posting to confirm that as of November 2005, Cubert is still haunting the Aquaducts; he still drops the tattered dress and you will still be rewarded for turning it in. So there's nothing wrong with the quest.

I've been killing him while waiting for the Zombie to pop. He also drops a snake scale, or rat whisker in place of the dress sometimes. He does spawn at the smudge next to the frogloks. His placeholder can be a mangy rat, a sewer rat, or a gelatonous cube. If you see one, kill it. There will be only one of these at a time on the paths at that section of the aqueducts.

I agree with this post, though am not certain about regular gelatinous cubes. I wasn't watching close enough to be certain, but in the 6 hours I was hunting Cubert in the last 2 days I am pretty sure I saw multiple cubes up at once. I do know they can spawn around the bend from where the mangy rat and cubert spawn.

I was killing spiders for silk while wasting time, so I saw lots of things cycle. Leaving beggars up would result in many beggars eventually (so different kinds of mobs on same spawn table).

Cubert only ever spawned on the red/burnt patch.
Cuburt Killed!
# May 10 2004 at 2:22 PM Rating: Decent
I killed Cuburt last night with my 8 Enchanter and I found three things necessary for a successful kill: breathing room for medding, no waste of mana on the PH's, and Root. To kill Cuburt extremely easily you HAVE to root/snare at this level (the level that this quest is intended for). The 'BATTLE POINT' mentioned in an above post helps as well but without root it is extremely hard to kill him. I guess the bottom line is GET ROOT...heheheheh

BTW I don't think anybody even remembers Cuburt. He was very fun to kill.. anyone reading this post should follow up it was a blast!
All Change!
# Nov 26 2003 at 2:47 AM Rating: Default

I think things must have changed since most of this was posted.

1) I used the EqAtlas map to find the spawn point and waited for 10 minutes but saw nothing spawn at all. It was the right place, that area has a unique layout and eventually I got bored and took on the Frogloks next to it.

2) The entrance from the bank is either bugged or has been nerfed to make it harder to get to Cubert because of high level farmers. Whenever I go down there I arrive in The Feerot! Yes I an serious! I contacted a Guide and he told me it was not a bug, it was a deliberate feature and congratulated me on finding it. I am not sure he was right.

thats a bug man. they would not do that intentionally. go in the entrance behind the bank if it does that, back by the wizard/enchanter/mage area. its just a short swim to the location. Also, I had no trouble getting the quest done, the ratio of earing as a reward (unless I was lucky) even seemed higher. I think, however thats a faction thing.

OK. I killed cubert about 30-35 times today. Dident drop a single tattered dress. I was so frustrated. I play on the Firiona vie server. My question is Did this quest change? Or am i doing something wrong? Faction? I was camping him at LOC. 135 , -61. Does anyone know about this? Please respond if you have any idea.

I am a high elf wizard 17th season of tunare.

An EPIC weapon, is a weapon that takes a GREAT deal of questing (killing certain things and collecting an item from many difficult situations) to finally put them all together for a VERY powerful item that is specific to that class. Like the Clerics holy water sprinkler morningstar or whatever. Its a beautiful weapon that takes a lot fo work to get.

You would not see a lvl 4 drop anyhting, except int his case, part of a mini quest (i call it mini because its all handled in the same city). Hell, you dont even see fine steel weapon drops untill like lvl 24 (Gnoll spires). So keep praying N00bs.

Come show me this epic weapon you keep lying about and I will spank you with it. You guys can just degrade his filter rating, dont tolerate childish posts. Or laugh a little and move on. Its lame, but kind of funny. I mean I killed Cuburt and got the plains armor.... yea... was weird, a whole set....

You can not expect even the greenest newb to believe that a lev 4 mob is going to drop an Epic or a coin like 20-50pp, you are a complete moron for the the atempt alone.

And for all who are this green and new, an epic weapon is the most massive quest for your classs, lev 50+ quest, and the idea that it would drop that kind of coin is just as lame.

All about Cubert...
# Sep 28 2001 at 2:51 AM Rating: Good
Ok here is everything you need to know about cubert in a quick message.

First to get to his spawn point find a man named Zamel near Arena in South Qeynos. There is a pool of water near him. In the water is the zone to part of aqueducts with cubert.

Cubert pops up right above the corner with the pool that has the 3 frogloks in the aqueducts. There is one spawn point there that spawns Gelatanous Cubes, Sewer Rats, and Mangy Rats. These 3 things are cuberts place holders. (All these things spawn at one spawn point. You can stand in front of that spawn point and kill them as soon as they pop.) The timer for that spawn is about 30 seconds after you kill the creature that spawned. Cubert pops from this spawn about 1 out of 10 creatures. I have camped him for an hour and not seen him.... othertimes he had spawned 3 times in a row from that spawn point.

All you have to do to get him to spawn is sit there and kill every gelatanous cube, sewer rat, and mangy rat you see. Everything else can be ignored.. they are not placeholders.

As far as Cuberts drops. He seems to drop the dress about once out of every ten times. Other than that he drops junk and a little copper or silver.

If you get the dress you have 2 choices. One is to turn it in to Zamel... the guy next to where you entered the aqueducts from Qeynos. I don't remember who the other person you can turn it into is.

I reccoment turing it into Zamel. His reward is the only one that is worth while. About one in every 5 dresses you give him he will give you a +3 int earring (Golden Ear Stud). The other rewards he will give you are Hematite and a little cash.

I had to camp cubert for about 4 hours to get 2 earrings. I have heard of other people doing it in one. I just had bad luck I guess.

Have Fun

I noticed some folks below gave rough hp estimates. I can't give exact hps but I need to clear up one or two mistakes in their figuring. When hunting here I use a level 14 37dmg spell and level 19 98dmg spell. It takes two blasts to kill Cuburt or any of his placeholders with the first and one with the second. Gel Cubes do not have 150-250 health (maybe when regenerating over the course of a battle if it isn't insta-kill) and I cannot kill either of the two rats types with the 37 so obviously they have more than 20-30 hps.
Had no time to sit.

Use EQAtlas to find Cuburt's spawn point.

The last time I was down there I found that my level 19 DD spell (98 dmg druid) could kill Cuburt or any of his placeholders in one shot so there were no running problems. The one problem I did have was that the very second I sat down to med after killing mobs all over the place in an attempt to single out his placeholder initially before I noticed its path Cuburt attacked me 6 straight times. I got the two earrings in under 10 minutes. The trip to Zamel if you use the zone by the bank is very short and then you can just gate back.

Btw for the mages Cuburt also drops malachite. The three loot combos I encountered were the Dress, bonechips or a malachite and snake scales.

An earring sells for around 30 plat in NFP and they aren't lore. I am bound right near Cuburt's spawn and can port myself to WComms after I fill a couple BPs. Say one dress every 5 mins and take 15 mins out of every hour for travel that is 270pp/hour if I'm not mistaken. After a couple hours in the aqueducts its some of the better cash a level 19+ dru or 20+ wizzie can make.
RE: Had no time to sit.
# Aug 08 2001 at 7:12 PM Rating: Default
In responce to higher level characters camping this spawn so they can make "270p/hour". Have you ever wondered why there are so few low level quests that return a really good item like this? It is because high level characters come in and farm the item. If you take your high level character down there to make money, and encourage others to do this, and the quest becomes overused by high level farmers, they WILL nerf this quest.

he's not a rare spawn

Go outside of the bank where the bridge is, in the pool there is an entrance to the aquaducts go down there it's real close to cubbert, PH as well as cubert spawn every 15 secs

6 Cuberts (2 dresses) and 17 placeholders. Total time, about 30 minutes.

I think this has to be the lowest common camp in the game :-)

Camper's Cliffnotes to Qijnopix's *excellent* guide:

Spawn loc: -135, 40
Spawn PH: Sewer rats, mangy rats, gel cubes
Respawn time: 15 SECONDS

If the placeholder is roaming, it'll walk back to the spawn point every 60 seconds. Just wait for it.
RE: Cliffnotes
# Jul 27 2001 at 10:03 AM Rating: Good
Addendum: The "returns to spawn point" may not be applicable to mangy rats, who'll take off after anything near them. But they usually don't live long against anything in the area.
A study of the cube Cuburt
# Jun 22 2001 at 9:36 PM Rating: Excellent
Scroll File: Cuburt
Study: Qijnopix Quillpen

I first became familiar with Cuburt on accident, though I've now killed him more times than the average individual uses 'Sense Heading'.

AREA

Find the Sewer Custodian Zamel, and leap into the water next to him; under the bridge, and under a small niche, there is a tunnel down. Do not change directions, but go straight into it. Upon reaching the bottom, the passage forks off to the right and the left; the left goes further into the aqueducts. Take the right. You will go up another tunnel and come out into the air in a passage. Keep swimming straight on, and you'll quickly find a stone bridge.

First you should become familiar with your surroundings. The bridge begins at an alcove to your right, and swings around to a platform to the far left. The platform is useless; ignore it. Where the bridge turns off to the left, leading to the platform, will be referred to as the 'BATTLE POINT'. The alcove consists of a the main bridge, with a path running off of it to the left, which thusly swings around to a small water hole and the bridge. When you initially turn left into this alcove, there is a large black grease spot in the earth. This I've learned is actually corroded rock from the constant corrosive slime that the gelentanous cubes shed.

There are various creatures upon this platform: They include a large rat, a giant rat, a sewer rat, a mangy rat, a gelentanous cube, a fire beetle, a large snake, and a large spider. In your quest for Cuburt, ignore the fire beetles, giant rats, large rats, and spiders. If you see any mangy rats, sewer rats, or geletanous cubes, you will want to kill them - these are the only creatures that block Cuburt out.

HUNTING

Just past the burnt spot mentioned above, the creatures you will need to kill (Sewer rats, mangy rats, and Geletanous Cubes) will appear. The sewer rats are just barely more powerful than large rats; the mangy rats are little concern, for upon spawning they will often simply attack whatever creature it's nearest to, often ending up dead in the fight. The Geletanous Cubes can be dangerous for anyone of a lower skill - they can take around 150-250 damage, and hit for 10-14 depending on how strong they are. They also occasionally can slime you while attacking, using the Gela Root technique, which does not last for long, but can be annoying.

The biggest factors when hunting Cuburt, as with any creature, are Time and Patience. These can be greatly reduced with a very simple and effective method of hunting.

For the Mangy Rats and Sewer Rats, don't worry about them much; 20-30 damage will kill them, which can be dealt fairly quickly. If you do low damage though, use the techniques below.

When the creature in question spawns at the burn spot, attack them once and turn to run. Run down the bridge to the "BATTLE POINT" mentioned in the previous AREA section.

When you hurt one of these creatures, wether they be cube or rat, they will inadvertantly run. When they do this, they will go to one of two places depending on where they are. If you fight a creature near the wide Platform to the left far end of the bridge, they will simply jump into the water and swim down the corridors. Unless you're a very fast swimmer, these can be difficult to follow, and if you're commanding a pet that chases after the creature, do not plan on seeing it again for a time.

If you battle a creature at the Battle Point or closer to the alcove, however, they will still head for the water. The creature will head up the bridge, take a right turn onto a small bridge, and jump down into the tunnel that you originally entered the Acqueducts from. If the creature reaches the water, swim down the acquduct tunnel, and then go straight; you will find the fleeing monster stuck against the far wall. Swimming a few feet away, you can then easily kill them, resetting Cuburt's spawn.

However, this is time consuming, and takes much patience; therefore, pull the creature in question all the way to the Battle Point, or even a little past (but not too far, or they'll just jump in the water). This will allow you the maximum amount of time to kill the monster before he gets to the water. This way, I and various companions of mine, of various levels, have had perhaps one in fifteen creatures actually make it into the water, more then halving the time spent searching for Cuburt.

CUBURT

Cuburt will attack you on sight; when you kill one of the Cuburt place holders, run to the blackened spot, and either sit or just stand, waiting. If he spawns, he will immediately attack you. Cuburt is shorter then a dwarf, and looks in all other respects like any other Cube. He hits anywhere from 7-10 damage, can GelaRoot like his larger brothers, and has around 100hp.

The Battle Point is ESSENTIAL for Cuburt. Don't so much as touch him before you pull him there. If Cuburt gets into the water, he won't go up against the opposite wall as other creatures do; he'll simply disappear. And after waiting for him for half an hour, you do not want this to happen.

If you are a monk or other melee individual with attacks other then your regular, such as kicks or bashes, don't use them during the normal fight after you bring Cuburt to the Battle Point. Save special attacks, spells and such for after he starts running - he'll take off with about 30-40hp left, and you need to kill him before he hits the water.

Cuburt randomly appears. I recorded three individual hunting sessions - in each I spent 2 hours using these methods. The first time Cuburt spawned 8 times, with 3 dresses. The second time 9 times with 3 dresses, and the last time he appeared 11 times with 4 dresses. I received 6 Hematite gems and 4 Golden Earrings - the earrings I kept for myself, and sold the other two for 20pp each. Cuburt would occasionally spawn, then a sewer rat or other placeholder would spawn, then Cuburt would spawn again. This happened twice - generally he appears every 20 minutes or so if you're moving at optimal speed. The longest period of time between appearances was 35 minutes.

Other then the dress, Cuburt will drop snake scales, rat whiskers, and an occasional gem to be sold for 3-7gp. After 6 hours of camping Cuburt in individual 2-hour cases, I came out with 4 Golden Earrings, and a small cache of silver jewelry.

Best of luck in the sewers, and beware the slime - the green is safe, but the large brown piles should be avoided. These are sewers, afterall.

I went and camped Cuburt for like half an hour. I was fighting him with my 13 necro and I easily killed him. He doesn't disappear through a wall, all he did was jump into the water and start swimming around. You might be right though, because when he was in the water he only got as far as to the exit of the sewers.

I waited for about an hour for this thing to spawn. When it finally did, it came rolling down the path and was an easy kill (for a lvl 11 Enchanter). When I returned the dress, I got the +3 int. earring. Definitely one of the better low level quests out there. By the way, it did spawn right around 160, -60.
Easiest route to spawn
# Oct 18 2000 at 12:52 PM Rating: Decent
The quickest route to this spawn that I have found thus far is by taking the entrance inside Qeynos right outside the bank. If you take that entrance, you should be able to get to the loc of his spawn REALLY fast. Be safe.

RE: Spawn Location
# Feb 07 2001 at 3:23 AM Rating: Decent
The spawn site has a brown spot on the floor (-135,40 like posted). Closest zone entrance is the pool by bank in South Qeynos (which is convenient as its near Zamel :). The other place holders i saw were "a sewer rat", "a mangy rat", and other Gelatinous Cubes, the next one spawned within seconds after the previous died, and all spawn at that same spot.

I did the Zamel quest twice, got a minor gem first time, and the +3 INT earring second time. I did the guard version once and got the locket, but its stats weren't what was posted (just had 5 charges of courage, no stat buffs).
