I can't tell if this item is lucky or not, got one while out training WHM and decided to keep it on me, what the hell right. So The next mandy I kill I get another and a Pinch of Yhtunga Sulfer and I laugh to myslef as it drops the other cause its rare/ex. Next kill I kill a Crawler and he drops a Silk and a Smooth Stone... so he decided to nail me with a Poison Breath before he dies and I'm out of MP to Poisona myself and i tick down to 1HP and it wears... lucky? {Hmmm.}

This is a major misprint. Yuhtunga Mandys DO NOT drop these. (Another reason I will now check Somepage b4 Alla again) And I have all the Buds, no Effect I can notice. Bub.Pen. seems to have the best drop rate and you can also kill rabbits for the <Wild Rabbit's Tail>.

where to store it?
# Mar 06 2007 at 5:42 AM Rating: Decent
If it does bring good luck where do you keep it?
on your characters inventory like equipment etc...
or
in your mog safe?
where to store it?
# Mar 07 2007 at 1:40 PM Rating: Decent
well ive tried both since my post.
works the same either way i think
when i was lvling mnk i found that mobs dropped more ex items than normal which helps a lot with quests.
dont know how much it affects pt etc... as only used while solo
I think if your willing to give it a go it can work over time, if you dont believe it is working then just chuck it!!
it only takes one slot so worth giving it a chance in my opinion
No Luck
# Sep 30 2006 at 4:48 AM Rating: Default
There is no "Luck" in this game.
All drops are programmed to drop at a set rate percentage so luck is NOT involved, just mathematics.
No Luck?

So going from what you just said, the thief ability "Treasure Hunter" is useless?

# Sep 27 2006 at 7:34 AM Rating: Decent
in every final fantasy game luck is a real factor and certain items bring more luck.if your not a believer then dont carry 1, if you are 1 or 2 inventory slots taken up doesnt really matter much.1 thing i did notice was when i got the bud i went too the fortune tellers in jeuno and for the first time they told me Fortune: favourable, so i might just hang on too 1...just in case.
Official Answer Straight From Fan Fest

The 4-leaf mandragora bud is only used for the quest, or alternatively as a really terrible food. At one of the Fan Fest developer panels, someone asked about whether the 4-leaf bud actually increases "luck," and the developer answered (through the translator): "If you believe hard enough, your dream may come true."

While that statement (not verbatim) is open to interpretation, by his tone of voice I'd say he meant "If you think holding onto or eating the bud increases your drop rate, treasure pool claimage, or in any other way affects what are essentially random processes, then I'm not gonna burst your bubble." Exactly WHY he didn't give a straight answer is also up to interpretation.

How i read here in this Forum it say's we have to put this in the Inventory to get a lil bit more Luck on Droprate (5%).

If we Eat it it gives us VIT: -5 AGI: 3, what does make maybe sense, because the MOB is harder and the Drop is better, but i don't count on that.

I let my in Inventory and try to get the Wild Rabbit Tail too.

I wondering if its really helpfull or not.

ok this is how it works 2 leaf mandy bud gives you luck for drop on normal mobs and 4 leaf helps you out on bcnm and nm drops. For another thing yes you do have to eat it to get luck bonus. I just wanted to clear this up for the peeps who care.
ow ya BTW i have tested this many times every time i have used one in bcnm ksnm or anything with big ticket items i have got really good drops.

LOL ... you can't be serious. Luck is luck you can't count on it,thats just damn silly, lol.

Of course all this is Opinions and speculation, because who knows if it does have a hidden effect, or it's just crap and for the quest, anyways i had it in my invent for a couple of months and slightly got more luck i guess in getting items from Treasure pool. Thats my belief. gg

I normally dont get pulled into this "luck increasing" crap, however, is 4-leaf used in any quests? any synths? anything at all? SE wouldnt make a RARE EX food thats worhtless, so to me, logically, theres a good chance this is a 'luck' item

Leveling COR and going after the three famous lucky items. I originally went to the Yuhtunga Jungle and was there for two days with no drop ><.

Now I am convinced that the Mandies in the Jungle DO NOT drop Four-Leafs. So I head off to kill Alraune. Went as PLD/THF and got this in about 12 kills.

Off to the Tree...

Kazham mandies do NOT drop 4-leafs, only mandies in Winhurst do that. Areas include East and West Saruta, Tanoki Canyon, Barubaeu Peninisula, and Bibiki Bay.

here's my personal experience.

When I fought Tom Tit Tat, I stole this.
Got the Fruit Punches to drop 5 sec later.

Since i've had this in my inventory I am 1/1 on Spiny Spipi, 2/2 on Bomb King, 1/1 on Orcish Barricader.

Also have TH2...I think this is a TH+ item.

Thats just my 2 gil......

everyone that has had this and tried to "experiment" with it, are expecting too much from this. you are hoping for a better drop rate or something. it is true that it increase "in-game luck" (which is a real thing because they wouldnt be have luck-based skills for the Corsair) and i always keep my mandy bud in my invintory.

by the way...you dont eat it, that will give you "bad luck"

I dissagree. I was fighting Poisonhand in Davoi and I ate mine before I killed him with my 75WHM/37NIN and got the Jujitsu Gi. The only other time I've gotten that was when I had a THF with TH2, and I've fought that nm about 20 some times. I think it does help if eaten, but I believe it's still a gamble. Only way to really know is kill stuff without it and "map" out the drop rates and then kill stuff with it and do the same. Also kill stuff with it aftet you've eaten it. Oh and by the way, the food effects from this last about an hour Real Life Time. FYI.

i dont think your supposed to eat it!! Even if it does raise luck if you eat it, wth is the point of having a consumable item that is supposed to raise luck if you eat it!?
well......

I have a friend that just did under observation and ate this.... he got peacock charm to drop... have another friend thats 0/30 >.> so.... i think it migh give ya sum sort of TH when ya eat it ya? :O
Luck is fickle...
# Feb 27 2006 at 4:48 AM Rating: Decent
I do not know whether having this item in your inventory affects your luck or not, there are examples of both. However if it did, that could explain why some people say that eating the bud would reduce their drops. Think about it- if it increases luck while you own it, and then you destroy it by consuming/using it, your luck would reverse- meaning that it would be reduced during the duration of the effect. This is what I believe.

Of course it could just be referencing a four-leaf clover...

I don't think it would. I believe that the TH skill adds luck points to your hidden stat when determining a drop. The bud should, if it does work as rumoured, add luck to everything, attack damage, drops, synths... anything that may add luck to its inbuilt equation. If you want to look at it in terms of TH1, TH2 etc, consider this a TH+1(ie 2 or 3)
Hope This Isnt Hurting Me ;.;
# Feb 21 2006 at 7:51 AM Rating: Decent
ok say that it was true that this gave a TH1...if I have TH2 will that like delete my TH2 with TH1?? if so then im throwing this off the highest tip top cliff in Gustaberg lol
-_-

i dunno what to believe about this item, cuz everyone says it's a lucky and that drop rate increase.......myself, i ate 1 in ranperre's tomb and finally got traveller's mantle, martial slacks and also 3pairs of battle gloves in chest(i always gets gil in those) so is there any proof that the drop rate increase? plz tell me if you know ^^
Just a thought

There seems to be a debate about hidden luck affects. Previous FF games have a luck stat, which *subtly* affect a majority of elements in the game mechanics. It would make a lot of sense then that luck is certainly a hidden stat, and therefore would have hidden boosts. This is always going to be a point of speculation until someone from SE itself comes out and puts the rumour to rest, true or false.

I got a 4 leaf in West Sarutabaruta when NM hunting with my THF with TH1. Out of boredom I started killing Mandragora along with crawlers and so forth. I picked this up in almost no time, and hardly realized I got it. I read about the superstitions around it, so I gave it a try. The entire hour or so that it was in effect, I didn't get a single Silk Thread drop off of a crawler. Mind you, that was WITH TH1. I came back the next day with my RDM/WHM and got a full stack in about 45 minutes.

Just my 2 gil, I don't think it helps your drops in cases like silk threads. NMs may be a different story, that's all up for speculation.

I swear by the luck items, Im not after a debate on this, I have the space so I choose to carry them, also got the mill desk. Its a personal choice.

Just as a point of interest though I get nice claim rates on beasty seals and kindreds in ptys. one pty I got 6/7 beast seals...... a friend (This is NOT my maths) worked this out as a 1 in 55,987 chance...... may have just been my night I guess!

Have also got the chest 3/3 times in Treasures and Tribulations in Balgais Dais.

Now all I need is a FF Lottery!!! Now THERES a good fun idea!!!! 1000 gil a week, 6 numbers....... you know the rest. lol.

I have had one of these for a while, and I decided to eat it while farming in Passhow.

A few days ago, I spent 7 hours farming and got 4 silk threads and 1 cutting.
I've been here about 30 minutes and have 5 silks and 3 cuttings. I dunno if it's luck or this thing, :P
