Description

Vamorcote needs you to find a key that was apparently buried in the Batallia Downs. The key he is looking for is actually dropped from a Notorious Monster Tree type mob. This NM Tree is called Ahtu and spawns at J-11 in the Batallia Downs on a small island. You will need 1 other person besides yourself before you begin your journey. Make sure that each of you can cast Sneak and Invisible on yourselves. Also be sure to bring along a WHM or BLM, so you can Teleport, or Warp after you are finished. If you can't seem to find one, try to get a Scroll of Instant-Warp. It is also recommended that you should be of level 55 or higher. Ahtu can tend to hurt.

When you're finally ready, head out to Batallia Downs and go to I-10 inside the small cave. This is the entrance to Eldieme Necropolis. Once inside, put sneak on, and ALWAYS keep it on. Now head to J-8 with your partner. Then go South to I-9. This is where you and your partner will split up. Have one person go to H-9, where they should be standing in front of Shiva's Gate. If this gate is in fact open, walk inside and turn immediately south. This is Titan's Gate, and it should be closed. If Shiva's Gate is not open, the other person must then open it.

The person still standing at I-9 must proceed North into I-8. Put invisible on and then proceed to H-8. There is a Bomb type mob here, who detects by sight and magic, so do not cast anything around him, and make sure you are invisible before going to H-8. Pass by the bomb into another small room, and you will see a switch. Take invisible off, and then hit the switch. Now Shiva's Gate will open, if it was previously closed.

Have the person at H-9 walk through and face South toward Titan's Gate, then hit the switch again, so that Shiva's Gate closes, and Titan's Gate opens. If Shiva's Gate is already open, you only have to hit the switch once to make Titan's Gate open.

Now the person near the switch needs to put invisible back on, and head down to H-9, near Shiva's Gate. Meanwhile the person who just went through Titan's Gate will proceed to G-9. In front of them will be a room with 9 Grave Pits in it, along with a few mobs. DO NOT walk on the Grave Pits themselves. They are actually invisible holes that will drop you down to a lower level of caves. Now to let the other person through, proceed north to G-8 in a small room. There is another switch you must hit to open and close the doors again, letting your partner in.

Once you are with your partner again, go back to G-9 with the 9 Grave Pits, go directly to the grave pit in the middle, and stand in the middle of it. You will then fall to a cave-like area, and you will be on a different map at L-12. Head East into another map and you will now appear at G-7. Finally proceed to J-9 and exit out into Batallia Downs again.

This time you will appear at J-11 on the island. It's not a very big island, so just run around until you see Ahtu, he looks like a giant walking tree, rather hard to miss. If he isn't up, you may have to wait for a while, or come back at a later time. If he is up, kill him and make sure to get the Engraved Key from him. Now you can warp off the island, or teleport, or walk back inside Eldieme Necropolis and use Escape to get out.

Finally return to Vamorcote in San d'Oria North, and trade him the key to receive your reward.

So I was going for the Stone Monument and happened on this big tree... I /check and it's Impossible to gauge! WOOT NM. So I grab my Selbina Clay, grab a copy of the Monument, and I "GET READY FOR GLORY" (300 quote, if you don't know, ask someone).

(lvl70 WHM) Stoneskin+ Blink+Aquaveil+RR and i rush him. I hit Ahtu with 2 Banish3s and a few other spells before it rips through my stoneskin and i notice I'm down to 50% mp. So I do the smart thing: REPOSE.

Ahtu wakes up once before I get full mp repose works again np. I rebuff, repose one more time and then hit Ahtu with 2 more Banish3s. Bang Key, which is what brings me here happy to discover that I just made 10k and beat an all new NM double woot.

BTW: thanks for gettin me through the gate Chuuuuu
killed Ahtu

Will i dont know about the other weaklings here but i soloed Ahtu as a lvl 61DRK NP. It took bout an hr before he popped out but i killed tigers to boost my TP and just wasted him easy and only 895/1279HP after the fight and got the key. Guilotine baby!!!:)

This guy was hitting me hard as level 60 tarutaru Samurai/Ranger, but my Sidewinder took a CHUNK of his health away. I think I could have soloed it if I had Seigan and Third eye up instead of Hasso. There were RDMs and WHMs with me at the time so I wasn't worried about switching to Third Eye.

The key dropped for me and I went to Sand to do the quest. 10,000 gil reward. Easy as hell.

and yes, there ARE Tigers on that island, but they are popped through Dragoon AF2 armor. Atleast that's the only one on the island that I know of because that was the first and only time I've been there. I don't plan on going back anytime soon because I don't plan on getting AF2 for myself.

Except at the little island where you fight Ahtu, there are no tigers. In fact there is nothing, just Ahtu and the stone monument for the Selbina Clay quest.

While having one mishap [Damn bomb!], getting to Ahtu wasn't much of a hassle once I got a friend.
Even with some defense gear on, he freakin' hit me for 80 each time [As a 61 Monk].
His defense and HP, however, suck, and he went down pretty fast. I seem to have a habit of wasting two hours on Treants I don't know anything about... >.>;

I am so glad that SE made a LB quest that was extremely easy. I mean you already get the items while in exp parties, and if you recalled the NPC's that you talked to, this one is a breeze. If only they were all this easy :-p. And thank you to Draguson and Firelink for helpin me with the two NPC's that I didn't know for sure. And thanx again SE for a finally easy LB quest.

Yeah it all depends on which day i is on how hard this NM is. The first three times i tried to solo it as a whm60/blm30 i was ableto get it own to 1/4 hp all three times before i ran out of mp and ha to zone the thing. I then went back the next day with a couple of yag drinks on me to get my mp back faster while healing, i couldn't even get this one down below half, actually i barely had him below 3/4 hp. By the time i zoned i had like less then 100 hp left and less then 10 mp. Then about 10 mins later my lvl 75 blm friend was finally able to come help me kill it and finish the quest. At the time i didn't realize that it depended on what day it was on how strong the NM was lol. I thought that it only applied to the avatar fights lol. I was so looking forward to actually solo'ing a higher lvl NM as a whm lol, but incedently i picked the wrong game day to try it. At least i finally got him though i with a lil help. Thanx Draguson.
Was a breeze

Took this mob as 58RDM/BLM

I waited for him to spawn .. Cast stoneskin, blink, phalanx, refresh, regen, enfire and haste..

Then i cast bind, slow, paralyze, blind, dia2,

At that point i whipped out my sword and began swinging and nuking spells inbetween hits. Took him down in about 1 min tops.. I was surprised how easy he fell after reading people say he hits hard even at 55+.

Enfeebled he was cake.. not sure what it would be like to hit him with a melee job .. but i imagine with the damage my sword did as a rdm that it can't be too difficult.
I'm sorry

lmao i am sorry but how in the world were you able to cast "Regen" as a RDM/BLM as you so claim, when "Regen" is a whm only spell? Just a thought lol i had to be a smart a**

I did this on a whim last night as a 56MNK/28WHM. I didn't need a second person to help with the gates and Invis is unneccesary. Everything in there agros sound except bombs and elementals. I never saw a single bomb and only 1 elemental.

The NM fight was extremely easy. I buffed up with Protect II, Shell, Stoneskin and blink then rested and attacked Ahtu. I did 2 hour though I wouldnt have needed too. Without using any MP at all I killed him with ~620 of 1208 HP left. The fight lasted about 1 minute and I was awarded my key which I don't have enough Sandy fame to unlock the quest for >.<
Quick fame
# Sep 20 2005 at 12:43 PM Rating: Default
a real quick way for you to boost yer fame in sandy is to take several stacks (as many as you can hold on yer person) of million corn down to the sheep guy in selbina and trade it to him. This will boost yer fame in the sandy area significantly and you will be able to do the Setting Sun quest. Hope this helps

just soloed this as 59 BLM/WHM while I was out getting my selbina clay.

I buffed up, blink, stoneskin, P2, blazespikes...
started with Burst, then Aero 3, Water 3, drain, and used Manafont for a Burst again. (If you have Flare, use that. they are weak for fire) he got me down to 140HP. not bad...GL

rest aggro prehaps o.O. Since that doesn't really take level into account.

else that seems wierd. I wouldn't think mobs that gauge EP to me at level 61 would aggro a level 75 =/ other parts of the place there are mobs higher level then me around but not that area...

You may need to do the first quest involving the Castle Floor Plans.

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=San%20d'Oria&fquest=139

Try doing that first, then talk to Vamorcote, he should offer the quest. Or you may just need more fame?

I did the Castle Floor Plans quest, and I still can't get this one activated. More fame is needed, not this other quest.

Also, this other quest may lower your fame, so I wouldn't necessarily reccommend it.

I don't know of any quest that lowers your fame. If you do, let me know. But fame is based on how well ppl know you, and doing quest "good or bad" will get you known.

Went out to get my clay tablet like everyone else, knew beforehand he was a puss because my friend soloed him as a 55 BLM. He's not too tough, but be careful if you're gonna solo him. He was hitting me pretty hard and fast as a 60 WAR/NIN.

Listen to the post before mine, getting through Eldieme solo is impossible because people are a bunch of pussies and think they'll die instantly if they open the gate for someone.

Since no one really has a good idea of Locations, or how certain things work in this area, I figured I'd help people out by re-doing the quest walkthrough. Hope this helps, the information for some of these quests can be a little vaque.

(the same 2h, blink, meditate, third eye, and RDM buffs are awsome together. and the +60 attack and mp regen aren't too shabby either. We did this while hunting the selbina tablet. (he did ~2500 damage in about 2 minuts.

Got him yesterday while getting my last monument. Me PLD60 and a RDM62 and a WHM61 (i think) at first i was expecting the worst and used a fish mithkabob, defender, sentinel and had pro III and shell III on. After hitting it twice noticed this NM is a wuzz, took us like 1min to kill it got the key and a mistletoe. I'm pretty sure you can solo it at Lv.60 very easy mostly if you are a melee type mages probably can do it with a lv50-55 tank.

ok... seeing as how he's a level 51 mob, you're damn right he's tough to someone thats level 30. On the other hand... if on the DRG AF piece where you kill the tiger, its super easy...

BTW... Ahtu is on a 2 hour spawn timer, just in case anyone wanted to know...
