Summary

Semih Lafihna has set out to find the truth. Track her down and help her in any way possible.

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed Sin Hunting - RNG AF1 and Fire and Brimstone - RNG AF2 to activate this quest.

Before you start, buy or craft a Gold Earring.

Talk to Perih Vashai at K-7 in Windurst Woods. You are sent to Mhaura to find a mithra named Koh Lenbalalako, who is at F-9 in the Blacksmith Guild. Talk to her, and she tells you part of a story. Trade her the Gold Earring, then talk to her again for more of the story.

Then go to Xarcabard, where you see a cutscene. Go to the cave in E-7 and examine the ???. A cutscene starts where a NM tiger called Koenigstiger starts attacking you. When the cutscene ends, kill Koenigstiger.

Once the tiger is dead, go to the cave at E-8 and examine the ??? for another cutscene. After that cutscene, examine the ??? at E-8 again to get a bonus prize of 99 ice arrows.

Travel back to Perih Vashai in Windurst Woods. Talk to her to receive your Hunter's Socks.

Solo by 75THF/NIN w/ 296 eva skill plus all the eva + I could pack, with only eva torq for skill+, 28 agi. After three deaths including a /dnc try, finally didn't get screwed at the worst time. Cheated somewhat in the end popping NPC fellow at 10% but I really didn't want to die again and ultimately be forced to ask for help which I hate to do, so I went ahead and used NPC fellow for insurance for not getting screwed for a third time under 10% due to para. Still, I believe entirely I could finish it off completely solo. It relies heavily on "luck" for para, whether or not it locks up your bloody bolts and shadows at the wrong time.

Bloody bolts and blind bolts land. Acid and sleep are a no go. Didn't have poison bolts on me but if they work, they'll help wear it down faster. Pop sushi for certain as it's evasion is high enough to make a capped 230 mark look silly.

If trying to duo with NPC, wait as long as possible before bringing it out for MP purposes. Perhaps tactics pearl wouldn't hurt and if you're willing, use up all charges. See no reason a NIN/DNC can't destroy this.

More HP than a quest mob should be allowed to have. It's standard tiger moves can be brutal to thf. Hits in 600 range. Regular crit hits clock in at 250+. Was doing fine as /dnc and even said to self "all too easy" until crit > claw cyclone > crit > death. I can't suggest /dnc as thf.
More help with the fight for Ranger Boots.

Just did this quest with 75 Thf/Nin me, and 60 Pld/War and another 75 Pld/Nin. It Took awhile Because Cat has alot of HP. The fist thing we did was have the 60th pld provoke the Nm then I SATA Behind the 75 Pld/Nin and hit for like 17?? Damage. Then ran behind it and waited to SA/WS. I did that about 3 times, then it didn't like me anymore^^ so had to TA/WS the pld/nin again so he would regain hate. Took like 10-15 min fight. Oh the 75 Pld/Nin had 7 remidies to help take off parlize. I also had a 65 level NPC Sam/Whm help, Mine^^ Went really well. GL

SMN solo

Fight was surprisingly easy to solo as SMN75

If you have 2hr up, summon Fenrir and have him work Koenigstiger down. Once 2hr is done, just carby kite until he's down to 40%. At that point, you should have enough MP to last by bring Fenrir again.

There's plenty of room to run around in Xarcabard, I just kept running around in a circle between the spawn ??? and the event ??? at (E-8). Only warning is that you have to go a bit beyond not seeing the hp meter of the pet. Koenigstiger moves faster than a supercharged mustang.

Entire fight took around 35 minutes. and I walk away with 36xp and a new pair of socks.

Not terribly hard. Hits for 100-150ish, and WS up to 650 on those with lower DEF. Roar can be a problem if you don't have a paralyna.

Just fought this NM twice.
WAR 74 or 75
WHM 75
BRD 70
BRD 67
MNK 68?
RNG 60-something

It was very easy for us. Our WAR had fought it before and was extremely worried about the fight. We had no problems. Actually, it was so easy that the second time all of us mages meleed the entire fight, too (WHM during end of the first fight: I'm boooored, can I melee it too?)

The key to the NM is evasion. He has poor ACC. Piling a pair of Mambo's, an elegy, and any other debuffs you can severely disables him. At no point were we ever in trouble. Even if our WHM hadn't been there (but we love her!) I'm sure we would have been fine.

So instead of trying to make him hit for less, just try to make it so he won't hit :3

I went there as my 74 thf with the thought i could solo this.....wrong^^ he's very tough. He uses graviga which takes shadows then he follows that immediately with his claw attack so if u fail to get shadows back up quickly your screwed. So i died and had a friend come raise me. I then went to second cave and nothing happened. Now it was a while before i got raise so maybe thats why but i ended up having to kill nm first. Maybe if u raise as soon as he despawns it will work but from my experience it does not.

they must have seriously beefed this tiger up since may. last night me 54whm along with a 53 rng, 70 pld, and a 72 whm went to kill this thing we were having trouble and running very low on mp when a 75 blm offered to help well that was no good we all died and got R3,s. as soon as we were up a party of ppl 73-75 offered to help i know one of them was a 75 whm and had atleast 2 other 75 melee jobs it took us 7 minutes to kill the damn thing and now for the kicker. there ain't no way in hell that thing is level 63 because with a 2 party alliance with atleast 5 level 75s we managed to still get xp from it so that means that it had to con atleast ep to the 75s but since we got 5 or 6 xp each it was more likely a dc or em to the 75s which would make it aroud 72-75

I just helped my roommate duo this tiger. He was an RDM74/NIN37 and I was a WHM63/BLM31. The battle took a little over an hour since our only offense were his daggers and the tiger has a lot of hp. I spent around 4000 mp keeping him alive and the tiger debuffed. It likes to use Graviga a lot as well as AoE paralyze which take away all Utsusemi shadows. In order to rest I had to invis myself so I didn't draw aggro from surrounding demons. The demons conned EP to me but didn't aggro unless I was resting. My roommate burned through about 130 Shihei.

The tiger seems to have two different weapon skills that it uses: Razor Fang, and Claw Cyclone (or something like that). The former was hitting my roommate for about 500-700 dmg when Utsusemi was down. The latter was hitting him for about 300-400 dmg.

In this battle, Paralyze was our friend. Paralyze would kick in at key times to allow my roommate to recast Utsusemi. The tiger does not seem to have very good accuracy and even missed its weapon skill a few times.

I would recommend getting more people to come along as this battle was very long and tedious with only the two of us. A nin tank would probably be the best as the weapon skills are very painful.

If you know more than one RNG that needs this quest, you can kill the tiger one time by doing one of the following:
*Each person who needs quest get a lvl 1 job, teleport to Xarcbard w/ oils and powders, then pop the tiger and death warp home. You can do this on your own time.
*Pop the tiger with the job you want to kill the NM w/ and then get a tractor and raise while you wait for the tiger to depop. Repeat until all who need quest have done so. Do this w/ the alliance you will kill the NM w/.
This satisfies the pop the tiger requirement for the quest so when you finally kill the tiger you will all get ur boots and arrows. Just remember that ALL AF NM fights can be done w/ jobs other than the on you are questing for. For example, I did the NM fight as a 75 RDM/BLM. You only hafta be the AF job when you start quests and open coffers.
cakewalk^^

At the time I started this quest I was in a hurry, my main character was in jeuno looking for a gold earring after starting the quest. There were none for sale. I logged off, checked my mules(all 3, 1 in each city) and found none for sale at any of the AH's. Since I had a friend who had almost a full alliance ready to fight koenigstiger, I was in a big hurry. Thinking a +1 version would work just as well, I bought the only +1 on sale in jeuno(not too much more gil-wise) when I logged back onto main character. A Tele-Mea and a bird later, I was in Mhaura and traded to the mithra npc in smiths guild that started AF2. Nothing happened..
Needless to say I was pissed, but went and helped kill Koenigstiger with my friend. Put the +1 back up for sale in jeuno at a slight loss and waited a few days till I found a norm for sale. Bought it, traded, got the next step in quest, now I just need to kill the NM...again. My once in a lifetime chance slipped away ><
Anyway, the point of this story: don't procrastinate, buy a damn earring(not the +1) and start quest as soon as possible so you don't miss out.. no matter how impossible it may seem you'll get a group together for this.. Good luck future AF wearers.

Edit: I got to do this a few months ago :). I hijacked a group from my linkshell that was doing some AF quest for another member(War AF something? involed 3 gobs i think...whatever), so after that was over, I gently prodded the group to come with me and we took him out no prob. I greatly overestimated this tiger ><; My linkshell members were on the ball, no one was even close to death the entire battle. Good luck :_) And yes, these boots are so worth all the trouble heh..

Tough mob, but easy fight if the alliance is smart

Like the subject says, Koenigstiger is a tough mob, lots of HP, strong attacks. However, if your alliance is smart you can do this fight with relative ease. I did this with 18 people:
RNG: 60, 60, 58, 56
DRK: 62, 60, 60
BST: 64
WHM: 72, 51
DRG: 60
PLD: 75(had nin sub because he was going to do Dark Spark, and decided to help), 65, 57
BRD: 75
THF: 60, 60
RDM: 56

We had the 72WHM concentrate solely on the 75PLD with Cure, Paralyna, and Erase. The other WHM, RDM, and BRD healed random people. We had the other 2 PLDs sit on the other 2 sides of the tiger to avoid the line of sight DMG blast. The DRKs and DRG sat behind the tiger smacking away while the THFs gathered TP and ran behind the 75PLD to TA+Dancing Edge onto him. All RNGS spread out as far as they could in firing range just shooting (this avoided the Graviga and Paralyzga that Koenigstiger loves to spam). All RNGs had Icarus Wings, but none used them. Also, not one person used their 2 hour and we fought it twice. There were some hairy moments where myself and my DRK friend pulled hate (DRK friend went from ~1200 HP to 45 in 1 hit) and I went to around 200 quickly. There's nothing quite like seeing 3 DRKs, 4 RNGS, and 2 THFs blasting Guillotine, Slug Shot/Sidewinder, and Dancing Edge 2-3 times a fight. We didn't worry about a SC, but mainly got off lots of Distortions and Reverberations, with the 75PLD doing a Dark SC.

So, in conclusion, it was probably the most exciting time I've had in game. The battle was fierce, and that Tiger has sooo many HP. His defense was rather low, as I was hitting for around 120-140/shot as a 60RNG with Musketeer and Silver Bullets. He seemed to have low evasion as everyone was making contact. It was just an issue of taking time to knock all of that HP off. Afterwards, I'm a happy RNG with my Hunter's Socks....no more horrible looking Leaping Boots!
If you hate recruiting as much as I do...

Lots of folks start ranger as a second or third (or fourth, etc) job once they've gotten 75 with other jobs. People get big, get the money needed to support un-gimpy uber-ranger, and away they go.

So.. first... go spawn the tiger and run your butt off to zvahl. Hopefully you have thf lvl'd high enough for flee. If not, maybe go as lvl 1 job and have a mage friend sneak/invis to get you there if you really mind dying. Either die or zone and let the tiger despawn.

Second, you'll notice a lot of rangers in the 50s being rank 10.

/sea rng rank 10 55-60 all

Third, /tell [rank10rng] hi, i was wondering if you've done af3 yet. If not, [Team up?] I've popped the tiger already, so we'd only need to kill it once.

Spawning the tiger first is key. Less hassle you cause for others, better shot of getting help you need to get this thing done.

This quest can be done with whatever job a person wants, as long as the quest is active.

Rank 10 person you just asked will most likely say one of three things:

"Sure. We can do that. Oh, also, I'm a level 70-something [insert job here]. I'll go as that."

(Even if they can't/won't do it right that second, if they're willing to help, they'll usually suggest a day time to get it done.)

"Sorry, I already did it."

"Nah, those boots sorta suck. The ones I have are better. I wasn't going to do af3. Sorry."

Most lvl 75s have lvl 75 friends who are more than happy to help out. The mob can be killed by 1 party of 70+s. (Still a hard fight though, don't kid yourself) Try to have a few friends at least who can go with you so it doesn't look like you are nothing but a leech who wants a free ride.

And -yes- I realize that posts saying "Oh such-and-such mob was sooo easy! I had a party of 75s!" is annoying. Point of this post was just a suggestion for if you hate trying to round up enough people to kill this thing... Forming full alliances is tough to do. This tactic might help you get the stupid boots.

One more note on this tiger. I don't know if it was mentioned before or not, so I'll mention it now just in case. In addition to spamming paralyze-ga, weight-ga, it does a nasty nasty AOE to players who are in front of it. Mages, melee... everyone but tank(s) should stand behind the tiger or you run the risk of nasty death.

Good luck.

Koenigstiger Report

11/03/2004, Carbuncle Server.

My Linkshell assembled an overstrength alliance to fight Koenigstiger. We had tried this once before with 10 talented people (mostly near level 60) and were beaten, though we fought him down to ~20%. This time we went back with a full alliance (levels ranging from 54 through 61) and a fourth floater party.

Rules for Combat
Koenigstiger uses AOE Paralyze, AOE Gravity, and has some very heavy attacks. Keep casters out of the way; you have to be at max range to miss a lot of what he has to offer.

Koenigstiger *will* eat your tank unless your WHM is very attentive. Having a second or third WHM (or xxx/WHM) to remove Paralyze and cast Erase on people is recommended, as the main WHM will likely be very busy.

If you can find some friends to handle the repeated demon spawns that'll happen all around the tiger's cave, do - it makes life simpler.

Easier completion
If you're doing this for multiple Rangers, here's a tip to remember. There are two parts to this quest that the Rangers must all do.

1) They must spawn Koenigstiger.
2) They must be part of the team killing Koenigstiger.

Normally this means you'd have to fight him multiple times, but in practice you can cheat a little. RNG/NIN can go up to Xarc w/ Utsusemi and a Warp Cudgel, trigger the fight, and (try) to warp out before dying. This satisfies the `spawn Koenigstiger` requirement. Flee might work but Koenigstiger runs *quite* fast and is likely to chase you all the way to Castle Zvahl.

There are a bunch of other ways you can have a RNG spawn and then escape combat, using combinations of mages and some creativity - rather than detail them I'll leave it up to parties to devise their own clever methodologies. The old "spawn, die, then get Raise II after he leaves" trick is nice also.

Important note!
If you call for /help on Koenigstiger, you will NOT get the kill flag! The kill can (and absolutely should) be done by an Alliance, but as soon as you call for help, you've ruined the fight.

Fight notes - Organization
Party 1: WHM, PLD, RDM, BLM, DRG, WHM/SMN

Party 2: DRG, RNG, RNG, WHM, BLM, RDM

Party 3: DRK, DRG, PLD, RDM, SMN, RNG.

Yeah. Four rangers, three dragoons, two BLMs, and a partridge in a pear tree. ^^

Party 4 was a four-man team; BLM, WHM, DRG, and something I'm forgetting (and I'm sure they'll beat me later).

Disposition of Forces
Party 1 had the main healer, main tank, and main debuffing RDM. We also had a WHM/SMN to give Aerial Armor and Stoneskin buffs pre-fight. Parties 2 and 3 were combat support for the Koenigstiger.

Party 4, at first, was going to help fight the tiger; we did our first fight with /help on and that's how we figured out that this totally ruins the quest. Since only a single alliance can participate, Party 4 wound up being a roaming demon-hunting group. This worked out quite well and is not unlike having a clearing team blaze the trail down to an Eco-Warrior enemy.

Combat was hairy; the first time out our 2nd PLD voked when he ought not and took the hate off our 61PLD. As the other PLD was 53, Koenigstiger bit him in half. Quite embarassing. We also lost one of the four rangers on the first pass.

The second time through we lost no one; just control the hate, make sure that main PLD has a main WHM who's only concern is *healing*, leave your debuffs to the RDMs and leave Paralyna/Erase to backup WHMs. As long as everyone plays their part, Koenigstiger should go down.
still just a little off
