Hello,
I just did the "new worker" quest in old OT to get the Worker Sledgemallet.
It can be useful to have the "Overthere" insta gate.
So, i completed the quest, using the Shroud toons. Unfortunately, the Overthere effect does not proc...
Is the sledgemallet nerfed? Or there s something i don t understand?
thx for your help!

It's not a click, it's a proc.

The difference is, procs go off during combat, while the item is wielded (not just sitting in a bag).

So, you need to wield the item, enter combat, and at some random time after that, the proc will go off, and you'll port.

The proc is insta cast (I think), but the time to get it to proc is not. I've never spent much time on melee chars, so I'm not fully versed in proc mechanics, but I think base proc chances are 2-3 times per minute (so every 20-30 seconds, again, on average. It could proc the first swing, and three more times in a row, RNG you know!). Some procs themselves have a higher (or lower) base chance to proc (see the item descriptions here for example), and melee chars get AAs which make procs more likely to happen.

EDIT - I know you said "proc" in your post, but based on your other post in the item thread, you said "it didn't proc when you clicked it", so I'm pretty sure you're conflating clicks and procs. They are two different things.

It usually works fairly quickly but I have seen people take serious damage before it went off.
It was a popular "free" gate back in the day but I preferred the velium potion which was less of a problem for "good" races.

Yeah, it's not really an evac "get out of jail" type item since presumably if you need a quick evac you're probably already in deep trouble and can't afford to keep swinging a real slow delay weapon hoping for a lucky proc to go off. Works better when you just want a port without being in trouble and can survive whacking on some LB or green mob until you happen to trigger a proc.

The main use we had back then was as a way for melee to get home from groups when there were no porters handy.
They could thwack away until they gated and then the gating classes could get out.
Nowadays everyone has the Origin AA at level 5 so there is not much point in the proc unless you really want to get to OT from somewhere strange.
