Yeah, an ingrained hatred of money was pretty much the only thing I could conclude there too.

FF6 and Chrono Trigger remade well would probably buy them a US state. I will agree with the FF4 3d remake being kind of off-putting, at least at first, I got used to it. Though I've lost track of the number of times I've bought FF4 at this point.

It just seems like such an obvious thing to do, and they certainly aren't shy about offering you the same game over and over again.

Also what happened to the Seiken Densetsu (<blank> of Mana) series? It's as if it kind of fell off the map after they tried to make it an rts; admittedly, that was weird.

All I know is if they do remake those games, especially VI, no matter what they do, there will be a large portion of the fanbase screaming their heads off. Perhaps at this point they've learned they can't make people happy and would rather leave it as is.

Major reason I prefer Dark Souls over Demon Souls is the world structure. I don't like the hub world of the nexus lol. And I like all those other rpgs you mentioned. But not among my top twenty, sorry....

Some of the scenes in X were awkward yes (the whole laughing thing after Luca Smiley: dubious), but man the story for that game just kills me every time. I loaded the ISO in the emulator last night and as soon as that music started I got goosebumps. Had to shut it down otherwise I may not ever get my XII replay done Smiley: smile

Illusion of Gaia was another great one back in the day. More adventurous like Zelda, but still a fun one overall.

Wild Arms 2 really only has superficial story differences from 1. If you really analyze the two stories, they are nearly identical at their core. I'm just saying that if you play 2, you'll get the experience of 1, plus some.

Superficial ? Man seriously did you even played both games ? There is nothing similar in their story's, the settings and the world is the same, but at their core, and at everything both story's tackle different issues, if you play 2 you played 2, and if you played 1 you played 1, they are not sequels they are stand alone games, it is like saying if you played FFVII you get the same experience as having played FFVI... Which is stupid since both games are set in different universes and are not connected.

So quick question ? Is every final fantasy the same ? since they all have to do with crystals in some shape or form, and have summons and the bad guy always loses ?

Of course I did... and I actually played 2 immediately after the first one. I even just reviewed the story synopses for both games. The plot is nearly identical; the characters are basically transmigrations, which is consistent with my recollection.

I'm starting to suspect that you're not a trustworthy source of thematic analysis.

You must either be trolling me, or you really do not play RPGS for their story... To say WA1 story is nearly identical to WA2 because in WA1 you have demons and in WA2 There ONE demon, is like saying FFX is nearly identical to IX because there are Summons. WA1 story has nothing to do with WA2, AT ALL! WA1 revolves around the war with demons 1000 years prior to the start of the game, Guardians play a key role in WA1 story, in WA2 guardians are not all that important, the guardian blade is, in WA1 the guardian blade plays a totally different role than it played in WA2, in WA2 the guardian blade and luceid play totally different roles than in WA1, In WA1 the guardian blade is a weapon used in the past to defeat the demons and the cause for the decay of the world, luceid is the only guardian that retained his full power after the war, and the one guardian that allied himself with the demons. In WA2 luceid is anastassias sidekick, the guardian blade is the only weapon that can damage Lord Blazer.

How is the plot identical ? In WA1 demons lost their homeworld of hiades because mother consumed it(Mother is a being like jenova in FF7) and landed in filgaia to do the same, but only mother knows of this plan, all other demons believe that their homeworld was destroyed by war, and that mother has brought them to filgaia to claim it as their new home, that is why they fight the humans, guardians and ewls. In WA2 Lord blazer is a demon, but he has no similarities to the demons of WA1, he is not for once a metal demon, he has no machinations of his own, he is not even the main threat to the world in WA2, he was a threat to the world years and years ago but anastassia sealed him away in the event horizon, and he was to remain there for eternity, but irvine valeria(A decendant of anastassia) funded Odessa to commit terrorist acts so that all the 3 major nations would unite versus a common threat "Odessa" with the bigger plan ahead of using ARMS to destroy the real threat to the world the "Encroaching Parallel Universe" That is the real threat to the world.

As for characters.... Really ? Rudy was a human created demon.... Silent protagonist, who could syncronize with ARMS 100%. Ashley is the host of both Lord Blazer and Anastassia's guadian Blade. How are they even the same character ? Besides being the Main Character in their respective games ? Please do tell me.

Nexus VS overworld is preference (though I prefer the Nexus, it gives the game so much more character and story IMO) but everything else about Dark Souls is ... I mean I love the game but it's missing the charm and the story was TOO hidden in that game, plus we all got trolled by the devs with that pendant.

but... Earthbound is not in your top 20?? This can only be because you did not play it. I can't come to terms with someone choosing 'Tales of' over Earthbound, ever.

Are you saying no "Tales of" game is better than earthbound ? Tales of phantasia ? Tales of Symphonia ? Tales of Vasperia ? Tales of Abyss ?

Just curious i never myself played earthbound, but i love tales of series.

I haven't played every 'Tales of' and wasn't disparaging Tales, just putting Earthbound on a pedestal. (ALSO... no Persona ANYWHERE near that list!? Rabblerabblerabble)

On Earthbound, let me put it this way. These are my shoes.

Ah ok, i was asking because those tales of games i mentioned i consider to be the best titles out of the series (That i have been able to play, there are some that have not been ported state side) and i was wondering if earthbound was more epic than them.

As for the lack of X title mentioned, i am guessing we where talking about more traditional RPGS, masseffect is not a traditional RPG, and lets be honest it's story is not even original.(Halo ripoff.)

I recently played Persona 1 2 3 and 4 on order, a very good series, i had already played them back the day, but never back to back, and they are very great games.

Now i would like to mention a game that you can all play an appreciate "Infinite Space" is a Nintendo DS game, is a gem of a game, the story is very deep and entretaining, and the combat and ship building systems are amazing. Also somebody mentioned secret of mana, what about seiken densetsu 3 ?

Right, but that happens pretty much anytime you make a video game. At least when you release an old game, you know lots of people will buy it. Those are the ones that matter.

Smiley: glare The envy is palpable.

And yes, Earthbound is simply a must play. I think the official Player's Guide is a must, too. Here's a pretty rough one on eBay for the bargain price of $116.90:

Totally with you on this. I grew up adoring the BoF fanchise being lucky enough to experience them in order. The first as a whistle wetter was good enough, and simple enough given I was only around 9 or 10 when I played it and hadn't really experienced JRPGs before (not counting Mystic Quest, which I didn't even twig was a Final Fantasy game until much later!). 2 was great, good depth and great story. 3 I totally fell in love with; the characters, dragon system, story... all fantastic. 4 I bought due to my love of 3 and at first didnt like it due to the "funkyness" of the Dragons but, as I got into the story, was absorbed in that too and the concept of the Protagonist/Antagonist is something no RPG has really pulled off since in my opinion. I certainly loved how blurry the evil was.

Then 5 came a long and with huge expectations, completely shattered my desire to play it. It has the underpinning of a decent game, the story basics are interesting enough but what a poor execution.

Here's hoping for a 6th at some point. One that doesn't suck anyway!

I was able to get the game, guide, and box a lot time ago for $100. Then I went away to college and my mom threw away the box. She thought it was garbage........

The guide and game were saved though.

That sucks. Unfortunately my brother and I were the only ones who knew the value of those items. We had a bratty youngest brother who would cry that we wouldn't let him take the books to bed with him. Then our mother would force us to let him, and he would sleep on them. Tore pages out, bent them... just... horrible. I still have it, but oh the sorry state it's in.

It's just a well-executed subversion of the genre. Rather than the hero with the sword of dragon slaying etc., you're a boy living in a wacky suburban town. You go around killing gang members, hippies, and all kinds of strange monsters with **** like yo-yos and bottle rockets. The gameplay, music, story and visual style all fit together very well and are executed artfully.
