I always thought those looked so cheap and ugly(and thought the colored linkpearl symbols of XI looked much better)

are they keeping them the way they were?

talking about these http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/w/images/thumb/6/62/Linkshell_Crest_Colors1.png/180px-Linkshell_Crest_Colors1.png

hideous.

I agree, they need to bring back the old pearl emblem. It was really ******* cool looking.

I didn't see any Linkshell indicators during my playthrough, so I can't answer that. Hopefully there will be an official beta video to address this.

There hasn't been very much information about linkshells or free companies at all. I've always been a firm believer that your guild's name has more of an impact than a color or a symbol.

I'm not necessarily against them bringing them back, but I'd like to see guild names listed too.

I'd be ok with listing guild names if you could shut that off, I don't want all that text cluttering up my screen. Frankly I'm very happy they're allowing us to turn off surnames Smiley: nod

SWTOR gets pretty ridiculous in that area with guilds, surnames, and titles. I had to turn that stuff off. Though I admit if it was possible I'd be tempted to use President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho. Someone would probably beat me to it though.Smiley: laugh

I personally hope you can design your own emblem, like on RO or Tera. Preselected lists are fine, but having your own lends to better identity as a group. Then again, this will need policing...

I seem to recall in the guff about XIV first time around, they were boasting that shells would be able to do this, and crafters would even be able to embellish items with their shell symbol. Sounded cool even if they didn't deliver it!

I'd be very content with getting the FFXI treatment in this case. The linkpearl was simple, elegant, and clean. I can't stand seeing titles and subtitles and guild names and surnames. It makes the screen incredibly cluttered, and for me, its one of those in-your-face reminders that you're playing a game. It just ruins the immersion for me. If I can, I usually turn names off whenever they're not important to see.

I'd usually rather not see the damn things anyway, but I did especially hate those preset heraldries. Personally I'd LOVE an option where I don't see your name unless you're on my contact list. (or in my current party)

If I had any problem at all with the crests in XIV, it was the limitation on colors (I always wanted a purple/black crest). The selection of designs wasn't too bad, although half of them felt like they were "off limits" because you didn't want to look like you were copying former/current LS's who had the same one.

I do like the Tera setup where you can upload your own - so long as the person doing the uploading spends the time to find a good one that you can actually see when not looking at your guild page. That's the only drawback on this option for me. I know its wrong to not want something like this because other people are bad at using it, but I liked how in XIV they were all clean and nice looking compared to Tera where almost half of them looked horrible.

So I guess I'm split on it...

That might something to suggest, I know they're allowing the turning off of names, or just surnames, an option to allow only names on people you know would be pretty cool I'd think. It would be like seeing your friend in a crowd.

I never liked them either, be much better to go with the XI style of the pearl, or at least something a little more stylized than a checkered shield.
