I'd like to start a poll really for those who would support an update to the default ZAM avatars with more recent artwork. The ones currently available on the board are now out of date to some extent. I realize as a premium member the problem would be solved but that will not likely happen unless there is some wicked (it is a NE thing) cool exclusive content.

Don't get me wrong. I love my mamet just hoping for more updates.

No, Buy premium, Support the site. Quit being a froob and wanting more stuff for free.

I've been talking to our Director of Content about updating the imagery we have. Right now I'm working with SE's PR to try to secure some higher resolution images we can use. I have a few ideas, but premium isn't much and I'm also working on trying to get more value for the premium users as well Smiley: thumbsup

Thanks Wint for looking into this. Your response is more than what I expected honestly. It sounds as though you are already well aware of the concern and are attempting to provide solutions for loyal ZAM users.

It sounds like SE will be implementing many good tools for users which we are used to getting from fansites. Your post the other day regarding ideas to keep these forums salient was well timed in my opinion.

I was hoping to provide more incentives for Zam membership. I'll ask what I'm allowed to share as far as what we're looking into providing, but some of the things are pretty exciting I think.

Additional, premium only smilies? Smiley: nod

True, you really do need to offer some incentives and feature for premium users if you want people paying for this site.

The way ZAM works right now is by restricting free users from fully using the site, instead of giving premium users extras. So most people will just go somewhere else for free where they have more options.

Back when Zam restricted the search function to premium users I'd have agreed with that, but it really isn't the case anymore.

I mean really... what can premium users do that would be counted anywhere as site functionality? Embed pictures? That's not really that critical to carrying on a discussion.

I agree that free users need more avatars to choose from. But the ability to use a custom avatar is a nice perk for premium without adversely affecting anything.

I think that's why they opened so much up to non-premium, was to give those who didn't want to pay a little more. Like I said, we're looking at things to give premium users more reason to sign up. For me when I wasn't an admin, I was on here so much that just not having ads was worth my $3 a month.

So what exactly makes someone a "loyal ZAM user" ?

Yeah not having the annoying huge wrap around ads that even ad block couldn't get rid of was worth it.

I re-subbed to premium when I hit 15,000 posts. Gotta pay for my server space upkeep.

I seem to be approaching 10,000, I wonder what I should do...

Long long ago, a friend of mine hit 1,000 posts on our little anime club bulletin board. He celebrated by making a post with every annoying animated gif and noisemaking video he could find. It looked like a Geocities website circa 1997 and sounded like the gates of hell had opened.

Do something like that over in OOT and we'll still PFORU.

I was hoping for something custom, maybe the whole Who the hell is Wint? thing with question marks or something. I dunno, I have a bit of time.

The ads don't bother me in the slightest, and I don't need a custom avatar or the ability to embed pictures.

However, if FFXIV ARR is one dope game and I find myself coming here a lot, I'll subscribe just to keep up a non-official-forums site (which are dreadful and make me hate the Internet).

Pretty much exactly what I was about to write.
