I have said it before that i am a total noob when it comes to XI or XIV so once again i will need your help!

Since i am a healer in every MMO i played i am looking in going that way with ARR as well. So my question for you is how hard was to lvl up a WHM in XIV.

Leveling a healer in other MMO's i played was really a pain in the a** . Even in wow that i had a druid i had 2 skill trees, one for dps and one for resto. One was for lvling and when i was going into instances raids etc i rolled the resto. So i am curious if you know how hard is to progress with a WHM.

Thanks.

1.0 wasn't very difficult to level up as you would always be able to get exp parties quickly. As for 2.0 I have no idea as they will change the way leveling works.

Whm was fairly easy and fun to level in 1.0 because whm had access to a dmg dealing stance and a host of aoe spells. No need for multiple skill trees or anything.

Final Fantasy XI was a different sort of monster. There were no "leveling quests" so you had to party and WHM was NOT a solo job until you could dual wield with /NIN and club stuff but that was more for fun or the even more fun, "WHM Burn" on Bones (Something I loved, 5 x WHM/NIN + a BRD or RDM) If you didn't party you didn't level. However, EVERYTHING needed a WHM so it was worth it to level for the simple fact that you were always going to be able to play. At some point jobs started becoming obsolete or undesired compared to a NIN, THF, SAM, BLU. Things like MNK and WAR (before Abyssea) RDM, BST, were all jobs that got replaced for a few years. But WHM was always one a party would never turn down.

FFXIV, someone else would be better speaking on that. However, it seems with the raids and stuff, they want to have a WHM present, much like you experienced in WoW or your other games. I think they are trying to balance the jobs a little better now. Before you could get away with a BRD and MNK healing people or two BRD but I feel now they want the PLD and WHM pair for your party with a good assortment of DD and Support to get the missions done. That's what I see but I could be wrong.

Someone else care to talk about FFXIV? or FFXI...

To me, WHM was easy or hard depending if you liked the healing position. I found leveling WHM difficult because it just wasn't fun for me. That's on me though, as I started healing in hamlet, I had to admit that there was a twinge of satisfaction. Smiley: blush It's obviously an important job and there is fun to be had trying to see how effective you are at keeping things 'healthy.'

Thanks for the replys all. But i am still not sure. I mean yes the best way in other MMO's to lvl up a healer would be to join raid/instances or the very least xp parties. Thats all good but the only problem is...you are only able to lvl up if you have other people around you.

^ That is something i read in another forum where a guy was asking a way to lvl up his WHM in 1.0 . They told him about his dmg dealing spells. But i was/am still concerned if a WHM can take and finish by himself quests that will give him xp when for a or b reason can't join a party.

Healer is a very important position and that is why i like healing raids etc. When you finish a fight and you see that your group made it alive (or almost alive :P) you have a sense of accomplishment. Sometimes can be really hard but thats what pays out at the end.

@OP
Speaking from the perspective of a Conjurer (and that's what you'll be soloing on, because the level of the Whitemage is tied to the level of the conjurer), it's should be fairly easy to solo by using a combination of aero, stone, and fluid aura (all these skills were presented in a public preview video). You may not last as long as a GLD when things go haywire, but usually that shouldn't happen anyway.

The point is that you will never have to "level" Whitemage in the first place; and as a conjurer you should most likely have plenty of tools at your disposal that enable you to finish storyline solo missions, levequest, or a plethora of EXP-rewarding side quests.

It sounds like you'll still be able to use cross-job skills so you could level up thaumaturge a bit and have access to some decent damage. Plus, from everything I've seen you could probably beat the majority of mobs to death with your wand, they didn't seem that difficult.

Hmm, i thank you people for giving me this info. The possibility of me having a hard time is still there but at least now i know i have some tools to fight and not just heal my enemies to death ^^ .

I guess when we start learning more things about ARR it will become clearer of what and how to do.

I think this game will lend quite nicely to a couple friends questing/partying together. Get a friend that wants to level a melee class and you two should smash through everything.

Leveling a healer is usually very easy. You're high in demand for parties, and gear is generally less important than for, say, damage-dealing classes. As for WoW, no matter your spec you should never have even the slightest but of trouble leveling up; most of the game is sort of designed to be impossible to lose, and since most everyone plays a macro-spam DD character, auto-group usually queued you in thirty seconds. Smiley: lol

I played wow and hit lvl cap way before the queues feature was introduced. And when i was playing lvling a restoration tree with a druid was really really bad. You couldn't reach the dps needed to do all the quests. And even if you were able it was x2 harder than normal. I also tried to lvl up a priest i remember but i got bored since it was harder if i am not mistaken to lvl him. But i can't be sure for that one.

The goal is really to make the game more accessible. If you're playing solo 100%, you're going to find parts that are probably easier or harder than others. Keep in mind, you'll have FATES, quests, leves (mini-quests), and dungeons to xp off of. This is in addition to whatever else is cooking up in the beta as we speak. Also, because you don't have the skilltrees that other games have (you have skills that come from leveling other classes if I'm right), you'll have everything you need to do damage and heal built-in. Parties aside, as a healer it's pretty much an MMO-given that you'll get insta-parties for dungeons. So I wouldn't worry too much about that aspect.
