So my birthday is tomorrow and I'm trying to figure out which headphones I should get. I have a pair that works ok, but they're heavy and hurt the crown of my head when I wear them. My wife sent me a message today saying she was thinking about these.

I've always heard great things about Sennheiser, I owned a pair of their earbuds that were out of this world.
For the PC, I use my PS3 headset. It sounds fantastic, it emulates 7.1 surround sound and it's pretty crazy when you play a game or watch a movie that takes advantage of that.

Wish my wife would suggest I get $200 headphones. 4 1/2 star rating on 156 reviews seems good. I'd read through them to see if there is a common complaint. I have never owned a pair but have also heard good things about Sennheiser.
I use the Logitech G35 and they've lasted 2 years for me. I use the wired version and my roommate uses the wireless one. They also have 7.1 emulation and I'm not too fond of it (not fond of any emulation because of the audio artifacts it introduces actually), but other than that they're pretty impressive.
I also wear glasses, if that helps, and they don't bother me with the headset on (I know some press in too tightly).

Brutal Truth: If all you need the headphones for is for gaming, just get something cheap. The high end stuff is a scam. You don't need crystal clear FLAC level output to hear "GET OUT OF THE FIRE *******!" and "HEADSHOT ************!" It's like giving a Ferrari to a quadriplegic. Kind of funny if you think about it, but then you feel really bad about the situation. This is doubly so if your idea of listening to music is CDs, MP3s, or Youtube.

Lol. Right now, I just wear ear buds. It's usually pretty quiet when I play games so I don't need noise cancellation or anything special. Although, it would be nice to have a built in mic instead of this cheap one I have sitting on my desk.

I have surround sound speakers so it kind of pains me when I have to use headphones.

If you think Skullcandy sounds good then ignore anything lolgaxe says on this subject.
What I believe Wint meant was that if you can blindly tell the difference between a FLAC and an MP3, then ignore what lolgaxe says on the subject as those more expensive options are more suited for you.

I can certainly tell the difference in bitrate, and the range of sound between a pair of skullcandy buds my wife has and my beats earbuds are like night and day. You seriously can't tell the difference?

I use these to listen to podcasts and you will never get a better pair of headphones for that purpose.

Yeah for my surround sound at my desk I have a RCA receiver with a AudioSource Equalizer\Spectrum Analyzer, 5 satellite speakers, a Sony center channel, and a 12" amplified subwoofer under my desk. When I'm working from home alone on Monday and Friday afternoons, the music it does get blasted

I bought a pair of Ear buds at Radio Shack for $8 and I love them 
I had a more expensive pair of Skull Candy (~$50) earbuds, and I think the sound in these $8 cheapos is much better. Especially the "thump" on hard rock songs and such. Not muddy but punchy. Vocals ring through just fine and the mids for fuzzy guitar sounds are lovely. Even my live CSNY tracks are pretty to listen too.
If you wanna be sneaky... Let her get you the $200 pair, return them for $$$, buy a cheap pair of earbuds for music, the PS3 headphones for gaming, and drop the rest on strippers and beer, and that's what I call a happy birthday w00t!

Very nice in my oppinion. It's not heavy, the spring isn't too "clampy" and there is plenty of adjustment room. The venting on the ears could be a bit better, My old wired plantronics was a bit better for that, but these haven't been a problem for me at any rate, though I could see how some people might be bothered by the level of venting available.
