It does add a huge layer of protection that is why i have it in my battle.net account. But seriously if you are careful with your website visits and you don't answer to weird emails you will still be safe. I run my wow account for years just fine without getting a token. My 3 eve online accounts run without a token and are fine (since CCP hasn't released a token yet).

This is not %100 true. My WoW account that I hadn't used in over 5 years got hacked. I never clicked scam emails or visited suspicious sites. Some people just know how to write programs that can hack accounts. The cool thing was the Blizzard sent me a free authenticator so it wouldn't happen again.

As far as i know blizzard's battle.net got hacked once and passwords, security questions were taken. Besides that i doubt someone wrote a program that was able to blindly find username and password and hack your account just like that. I am not saying they can't but if i was to guess i would still say you clicked the wrong link in the wrong site.

Of course at this point we can only speculate what happen. I hope i don't get hacked after this convo haha! ^^

It would be awesome if, instead of choosing between the digital and physical, if you could use one of each. I'd love to be able to lock my keychain autheticator in my safe, and then use the phone one. Unfortunately, with the nature of security, it'll probably be one or the other.

Oh I don't know, it might work. We'll have to see how they implement it.

I'm thinking if you enter in the secure pass code from the back of the key fob, you could possibly sync them up. I mean, that's how we activated the tokens to begin with.

It just defies logic. I mean obviously people of all ages play all MMOs, but with WoW it's not even a rare occurence. You have whole families who still to this day all play WoW together, even like grandchildren and grandparents. sounds kind of awesome. no idea how Blizzard does it, never got into it that much.

I mean I know it has tons of content, playable on any PC, and everything is very streamlined, but still

(sorry ,unrelated to the topic, lol)

WoW has tons of marketing, astonishingly low PC requirements, and it's really hard to lose at it.

To pursue those three points... There were trial discs on grocery store counters; there were adverts in magazines; on soda bottles and junk food; public art exhibitions; television commercials; and banners on nearly every website I've ever visited! I found a cheap, eight-year-old laptop in the back of my brother's closet that could run WoW on low settings, but smoothly! And finally, when I tried to get my mother-in-law to play FFXI with my spouse and I, she didn't even understand how to play after an entire year of leeching actually playing with us!

I don't mean to say that any game should try to mimic these traits -- in fact I think that they make a game unbearable for many reasons -- but I do want to point out that WoW's success doesn't defy logic, it really makes a lot of sense.

(and, yeah, unrelated to topic, heh >_>)

Yeah, the advertising has always been amazing, but it's still just astonishing. WoW has always been EVERYWHERE, I mean as we all know there was even a whole WoW south park episode like 6 years ago lol.

People were making the argument that "P2P isnt dead, look at WoW" which is why I bring it up again that that was unfair.

I mean, it's at this point: my mom is a teacher. She came home THIS year and told me about how she heard about a game called WoW at her school and how a family all plays together.

This is in 2013. WoW came out about a decade ago, I think. I know other games have lasted that long (FFXI, duh) but that's just crazy in my opinion, that my own mother somehow got suggested that she play WoW IRL. I dunno. Of course I didn't let her. If we're being realistic here, FFXIV is NEVER. EVER going to be that game that regular people to discuss with their friends and even TEACHERS IRL openly, that's a part of pop culture.

so yeah, I'm just saying it's unfair to reply "WoW pulled it off though (; wrecked ur whole argument" when I say P2P is dead. dozens of MMORPGs have tried and failed to do what WoW did for many years now, and they just can't.

So how long does the battery on the key chain I've got supposed to last for? I've had it since the beginning would hate for it to crap out when I really needed it?
#34 Mar 22 2013 at 7:07 PM Rating: Good
Guaranteed five years, estimated for seven or so. I've had mine since the beginning as well.

I think this app is being introduced to address the fact that the batteries are going to start dying.

Some people say they still have the one from FFXI. So I'm guessing you have quite a few more years left on yours. The phone app is a much needed backup plan.

Mine is from when tokens were first introduced, I won it from Zam Smiley: grin

Still works fine.

Pretty much in time for Seekers of Adoulin, interesting. I'll have to look to see if I can switch from my existing token.

If they allow multiple tokens then I think you can do both, but you will need to authenticate each device separately.

Well i meant like both of the apps will be linked to the same account and will work as one token. Meaning either one i put will work the same.

I ask this because i tent to forget one of the 2 devices very often. >_<

I know what you meant. I think you should be able to register multiple devices but each one will give out different codes. The algorithms for those RSA key generators usually rely on some specific device ID when it generates the key, so each device could be registered and either code will work. It all depends on how they implement it.

Ah thanks now i get it. Well it will be great if they do it like that.

Obviously having multiple tokens is more of a security issue, but not a giant issue.
