There is some XIV info in there, the video isn't the greatest, hopefully someone throws up a better one but this is from the official Twitter feed.

I sincerely hope you're not expecting to see this before launch. You'll just disappoint yourself.

Let a man dream, Theo! Let a man dream!

Also it says

Quote:
Summoner shown off. Having the primal essence fight against things.

So I get giddy.

Guess I will have to re-entertain myself with ducktails!

I was at the panel yesterday.

No real new info was put out there, but they gave all the attendees beta codes. Aside from their powerpoint, nothing noteworthy happened.

I'm telling you, it would be perfect for a Mimic costume. Not very different from the Mime outfit in FFT (a parrot costume).

How would a mimic operate in an MMO? It would never happen. They did say that they wanted to borrow from more FF games aesthetically though.

I designed one for FFXI that worked just fine. I shared it here recently, actually.

"It would never work," is almost never a true statement wherein game design is concerned. When you're willing to actually sit down and solve a problem, there is a solution just waiting to be found.

I can't see it, I've been around the block a few times, and I feel like Mimic would be a very difficult job to design around solo play.

But please, indulge me. I'm always willing to hear the other side before I completely disregard it.

Some jobs simply aren't meant for solo play, especially in FFXI. The Mime I came up with was one of them. It did have access to a subjob, but not while it was in a party (in theory it could sub /BST and solo as well as that allowed). Same general idea though--you would have access to certain abilities while soloing, but you'd lose them when you partied with other players. Obviously the Mime I built for FFXI doesn't work in FFXIV, but there is literally no doubt in my mind that it can be done effectively.

I'd love to see that Mime idea fully fleshed out Kachi. Got a link anywhere? XD

I'm not going to dig it up, but the basic concept was that they had very poor base stats and very low skills, but when they were in a party, they had access to any ability that another member of the party used. Magic costed no MP, but was limited by a global recast timer through a Mimic Magic ability (~20 seconds, I think). I also gave them AF that gave them a set of abilities that could mimic another party member's equipment in the same slot. e.g., Their AF weapon (a kendama), came with the ability "Mimic Weapon", which would mimic the stats of the target's current weapon.

It would have been really fun to play in a diverse party just to try to optimize the usage of all the different skills. At the same time, it wouldn't have been overpowered (though even if it were, it's not like a party full of Mime's could do much of anything). Or at the very least, it would be no more imbalanced than any other class, and as always, it wouldn't be difficult to balance just by changing the numbers a bit.

Eh, some people will QQ no matter what you do. Not every class can be ideal in every situation. The best you can do is keep them from lolJOB'ing.

Indeed. poor PUP... Having my automaton do more damage than my exp party members just wasn't enough...

SE didn't help with the orange jester outfit they released for Empyrean.

It's like they want PUP to get made fun of.

Didn't it also have a little rattle or child's drum or something?

Oh, and thigh-high leather boots, a jingly bell anklet, a gaudy '70s medallion... lol what an awesome set. Smiley: lol

Yes, but historically Puppeteers are entertainers and the armor was fashioned after olden time puppets. The set fits the job fine, even if some of it is dumb. Also, STOP DESTROYING MY IMMERSION!!!!!~~~~111@2

*Runs away QQing*

...Also they had to make the best job in the game look dumb so everyone wouldn't play it :p

Of the ~10 people posting in this thread, I know that at least three were hardcore PUPs (myself included). Now what's that say about the Zam population, that 30% of its readers were attracted to that godawful artifact and (uncannily adorable) automaton?

Oh, and Kachi:

I have a lot of respect for good PUPs. The problem is that it's a difficult job to master, and it is so very easy to play badly. Also, it's expensive. A dear friend of mine realized that she'd dropped about ten million gil just into attachments for the puppet alone, not counting her own gear. In that respect, it's not so different from a mage job, where spells are a huge expensive cost. However, since no one can actually see what attachments a PUP has directly, very bad players only get the cheapest attachments and don't make any effort to acquire the more expensive ones, either through the pirate ship runs or just buying them on the AH. I'm only about six attachments short of being done myself, but I can't justify blowing the last five million gil on a job I'll never get to play except for solo - not when I've got a 99 relic horn to feed and a 90 Empyrean to build.
