I know that in 1.0, at least at release, they had you pick one of the twelve guardians as part of your character creation. I also know that they were completely useless and were supposed to be implemented after launch pre Yoshi. What I was wondering was if they ever did anything with them or planned to in ARR or if it was something else that was going to be scrapped.

There was a story mission in 1.0 that tied into them. After completing the quest, we got a ring with our deity on it. We had to travel on a pilgrimage to all the gods to pray for Bahamut wouldn't go "RAWR BOOM!" Got our ring when we reached our stone.

Can't speak for 2.0 though.

I doubt they would scrap that, SE loves that kind of thing, and making us speculate on what influence it might have over your character.

Plus it's one more thing to agonize when making your character.

I just went with what the last line in the description of them said concerning what type of tool or weapon was connected to that deity based on what class/job would be my main. EX. one of the symbols was a bow , so I picked that if I was going to use archer as my main class. Hopefully they release some info. on this before release.

That was a complaint from 1.0, that there wasn't enough information around what picking your deity would do.

Well it's good that they at least attempted to tie something tangible with them.

Hopefully they perks are something cool if it is still in 2.0 and not something too arbitrary. If they are going to want to go the route of WoW with balancing for PvP then they might end up fairly useless. That or they may do like GW2 did with racial bonuses and disable them for pvp or at least make them only useful in PvE.

They still have them, it's shown in the official character creation video.

Not sure what the benefits (if any will be). Yoshi did mention in an interview that they would have some kind of a benefit, but that you could change you patron diety throughout the game.

It's already been confirmed that your guardian sign will affect the initials embroidered on your character's underwear, as well as the motif of your mandatory tramp-stamp upon reaching level 12 and exiting the tutorial area.

Of course, all this info is from before Wada resigned, mind you.

I heard if you synth on the moon and day you picked, two steps from the deity's alter, in the direction of the moon and facing said moon... You can create a +2 item. Now, if you do it around the same time as your creation, you can get a +3 but that's almost impossible because you never know when the server actually generated your 1s and 0s.

Just the word on the street.
