Just a thought.

Well, think twice then. If a person wants to prevent something from happening he or she might be better off by making sure something will not happen, especially when there is room for dispute.

If you don't want people to necropost then do your job and close all threads you think are not relevant anymore. Cannot be that hard, can it? What you get now is that some poor soul reads up about some three months old topic - or some post that falls into your definition of and responds to it... and you're going to mute him or her. Is that what you really want, or so you just want to stop necroposting?

Come on, you cannot be that lazy, Win, right?

Actually I would have to lock them all manually, one at a time, so yes, it would be a LOT of work. The devs are too busy to worry about implementing some system when really you people could act like grown ups and listen when I ask you to do something (or not do something as it may be).

This isn't a blanket rule, you can save your self-righteous indignation, obviously I'm not trying to be an *** here but there were two bumps within a few hours of each other for reasons other than you have descibed above (I've already explained the posts that were necrobumps and I think we can all agree they weren't for any good reason). I wanted to end it before people thought they could just bump whatever threads they felt like. The forum regulars should know that necroposting isn't welcome, a new person searching for info with a legitimate question will be fine. Hell, if you find an old thread with a legitimate discussion that applies to the current state of the game (read: not related to 1.0) that's fine as well, just use your best judgement. I can't believe people are getting their panties in a twist over this.

The actual blanket rule that covers necroposting from the official forum rules is this one:

the forum rules wrote:
XI. Deliberate forum content disruption

Posts that deliberately render the forum unreadable, such as efforts to force threads off the page, extremely large blank spaces (multiple line returns) to make users take longer to scroll to the next post, Quote stacks (multiple copies of the same quote over and over again in a single post) and quote “pyramids” of extreme size are unacceptable and will be immediately removed.

Breaking the forum filters (i.e. the swear filter, bad link filter, etc) is also not allowed. The filters are there for a reason, please do not attempt to bypass them, especially in the Gaming forums and the Out of Topic Forum.

Necroposting: The act of posting in an extremely old thread for the sole purpose of bringing it to the foreground of the forum to disrupt the existing threads is considered necroposting, and is prohibited. Extremely old is a subjective term, to be determined by the administrators. Threads that are legitimately, or accidentally necroposted in may be left at the discretion of the admin. Deliberately necroposted threads will be returned to the page from where they came, and may be locked if necessary.

The underlined portion is the important part, as it distinguishes between someone posting in an old thread from someone posting for "troll" reasons. In effect, it is that small part that really defines a necropost. And it would seem that at least one of the posts in question was made not to deliberately disrupt front page threads, but to add a snarky something to an old discussion (that is, to poke fun at the fact that the suggestion of Wada's resignation actually came true months later).

A necropost is not the deliberate revival of an old topic, it is the deliberate revival of an old topicin order to obscure or otherwise bury other threads.

The question is whether the "necroposts" in question fit this designation...

edit: meh, what I said has really been covered already. I hope I'm not necroposting on the topic. :P
