I was reading through the FFXI Wikipedia and it reminded me of a time a few years back when I saw the greatest FF based product ever. I was in a record/CD store called Karma that also sells various "tobacco" related smoking products. While browsing the selection with a couple friends for completely "tobacco" related smoking purposes we discovered a one-hitter/dugout made of wood with a female Tarutaru face emblazoned on the front. This was most likely in 07-08, well after the initial wave of popularity for the game. I almost bought it but didn't due to it being a female TaruTaru and all. I seriously doubt that it was a licensed product, but it still amused me greatly to see FFXI on such a product.
I was wondering if anyone else had some similar products they had discovered. I don't know if they could be as weird/awesome as that one, but I'd love to hear about more.

I have a very large collection of FFXI doujinshi. Some of it is tame ("green-dot") and some of it is outright **** ("red-dot.")
All of it is hilarious. There's this one with a Mithra and a Tarutaru and a hound in Gusgen Mines... and I can't say any more, because it violates forum rules and good taste.
There actually hasn't been a whole lot of licensed FFXI merchandise. There is the Dynamis Lord statue from Playarts, the Leviathan necklace they sold years ago which got you the tidal talisman, and the four Tarutaru miniature figurines. And some plushies, and the talking chocobo chick. Maybe some T-shirts?
The majority of good FFXI stuff has been fan made. I have a set of trading cards that have Tarutaru in various jobs' AF on them.

I wanted to buy one of the FFXI city rings that were available a few years back, but They were kinda pricey for what they were. Probably would of gotten the Windurst ring as it also looked like the Evokers ring.

My wife has the Windurst one on a chain, and wore it for a while on her finger -- it's surprisingly nice-looking in person.
Hard to find FFXI doujin in stores nowadays since its popularity has dwindled... ;~;

A Final Fantasy XIV themed... router? Man, the SE marketing team really needs some better ideas about what people like to decorate... I'm holding out for the Eorzea-print stapler, or the slow-cooker with a lalafell drawn on the side.
I'm looking forward to the bath line of products. The perfume "Scent of a Mithra" is truly breathtaking, and the "Galka Stank be gone!" deodorant will be hot sellers this year.

It says a lot about their dismal marketing department that none of us ever heard of it. Frankly, I'm not surprised those guys are getting laid off.
I mean, I don't remember seeing that in an email, nor in the Square Enix store. This link was the first I've heard of it. It's a very bizarre thing to offer, too - most people have their modems/routers supplied by their ISP, and the commercial grade ones would be in businesses where something like this would be pointless.
Now, the custom COSMO case art they did for FFXI with the Wings of the Goddess logo? That was something awesome they could have sold many of. And yet, it was only used as a prize. I guess it was a prototype.

I had one of the official controllers but the drivers from Snakebyte were absolute garbage and caused BSOD's fairly reliably. I wish they'd do a new one that wasn't manufactured by a ****** vendor.
I remember seeing that router in Akihabara and thinking wtf? Though in Japan that stuff's all over the place, just have to look in ufo catchers.
