You're right, you didn't say you were no longer interested. "Really...struggling" means you're super interested right? Smiley: tongue

To be fair I didn't say you were no longer interested, that's all you.

A thought occurred to me.

They recreated the opening scene of FFVII on the PS3 as a demo and the crowd went wild and demanded a remake.

They recreated the opening scene of FFV on an engine that will run on the PS3 and half the crowd started booing.

As long as the FFVI characters are kept to a teaser, then I'm fine.

I'll start getting angry if they actually throw in Terra in the storyline, or Squall, or any main series character.

Then again, FFIII Dark Cloud is a raid boss in the Crystal Tower according to the Letter from the Producer... so I don't know what to think.

I can't imagine they would do that, this was merely intended to be a fun video to show off new stuff, I don't see what the big deal is.

Hell, people would probably be happier if they scrapped ARR altogether and made a FF6 MMO. But personally I try to look at it as evidence that they have some idea of what their fans want.

I'm actually okay with them allowing characters to make cameos, but keep it subtle. A random quest or leve with some lore text is fine. Using Terra as an example, rather than having an NPC Terra giving you a quest, maybe allowing you to do a magitek quest battle where you fight a trio of Magiteks using the Terra/Biggs/Wedge models (but without names) is okay. Only the players who played VI and are paying attention might get the memo. Also known as Easter Eggs.

I'm just ambivalent on the video; it didn't drive me into rage-mode, or cause orgasmic waves of joy. I just saw it thought, "Hmm, that's nice. Anyways..."

If the game ends up being not-fun to play, then having magitek in it won't make me like it. If the game is fantastic, the magitek being a shout-out to FFVI won't drive me nuts. It's more or less irrelevant to my opinion on the game at this time.

To be fair, I really like FFVI; it overtook FFIV as my favorite as I got older. This isn't FFVI though, it's FFXIV; it'll have to stand or fall on its own merit, and all the easter eggs you can cram in won't make it not-FFXIV.

In the same vein. I take to FFVI's flavor of Magitek like some people enjoy steampunk (And it's pretty much the same genre.) I like that Anamo style of design and artwork. I did when they made Dragoon AF to fit to its standards too. To me, its a step in the right direction, mixing a bit of the old in with the new - and the little bit of FFVI fanservice to pay homage to the game the mount came from was endearing.

No, it won't make or break the game - but I appreciate the shout-out to my childhood all the same.

I don't expect full on character cameos, unless they were featured in like a Gold Saucer Arena mode or something. That would be cool.

Also Yoshi needs to stop using nostalgia to call attention to it's game, is getting damm sad already.

I agree, it's starting to look sorta desperate.

It's actually looking like he's giving us what we've been PLEADING FOR.

I love would to see more FF characters remade in this engine... The way I see it, Yoshi-P is keeping the fans in mind and looking back at what made FF successful and trying to renew that spark.

Given that each main Final Fantasy title has always been set in a different world with entirely different characters, I do not see how fanservice cameos would be synonymous with "what made FF successful."

Obviously SE is simply trying to attract people to FFXIV in the best way they know how: by relating or attaching the new product to the old products in some way. It makes sense, really, as they're essentially faced with two marketing options. They could either show FFXIV for what it is -- a totally failed title remade into a reasonably generic post-WoW MMORPG -- or associate it with what they'd like it to be -- one of the finest and most well-remembered RPGs ever created.

It's like when Richard Garriott announces he's making a new game. Do you think he refers to himself as the Father of Ultima or the Father of Tabula Rasa? Smiley: lol

You know the best thing about this video? It was probably rendered in an area of FFXIV:ARR where there is actually snow. The simple fact that such a zone exists where one did not before speaks volumes especially in the desired improvements sought by fans/critics of 1.0.

I know some people are feeling because of the video that it is just a rip-off but honestly... it is magitek... and it looks great if you ask me. The Devs probably wanted to have a little fun. I'm betting many of the people who work there do so because at some point they were fans of the series or the company.

The only problem I see from this video is that the /nda off command is very slow to respond and does not work.
Smiley: jester

Just venting some excitement for Phase 3 to get here and SE to utilize the /nda off command.
