I recognize that my involuntary urges around "immersion" are unusual and most likely idiotic, but I can't help it (it's like when people say gils when referring to multiple gil HULKSMASH Smiley: banghead)

Regarding zone loading times, I don't think they should be long either, but from my experience with my hands on, the zones load fast and are really not a big issue.

Fun fact for you XI players (noticed from my hands on in San Francisco), you can keep typing your message to your friends (Tell, LS, Party, etc) while zoning, the UI doesn't blank out while you're changing areas. It's freaking awesome Smiley: thumbsup

I like "gils" or even 'gilz'. Reminds of something Largo would say in MegaTokyo <.<

We were discussing it in our LS group on Facebook, it seemed evenly split so I recognize that I'm not a majority there.

The site has been ran this way for what? A decade or better? If you don't like the way Wint does things, you sure as hell won't want to run afoul of Kao.

All service industries fill a niche, whether they're MMOs or forums. They're not going to alienate their existing user base because a few people find that this particular community isn't for them. If you want to go play in some sandbox forum where the mods act as corporate babysitters, then go find one. These forums are self-moderated with the rating system, so we don't need that kind of presence.

At the end of the day, Wint does a lot more for this community than the rare, pissy poster who can't deal with humdrum internet disagreement. If nobody's talking about the game, then nobody comes to the forum and no traffic is generated. Wint is able to engage the community as a fellow fan/player. People come here to talk to him and hear what he has to say. That drives traffic.

Your complaints are not only petty, but entirely misguided.

Amen, can we table this discussion now?

To be honest, I can't think of a FFXIV fan forum where the moderators never state opinions, and I've visited most of them at some point or another. They're all run by fans, and how you could be a fan and not have an opinion?

Regarding our income, while I do get paid, it's not a fabulous amount (although getting paid to regulate you knuckleheads and talk about my favorite MMO is pretty awesome). I read this recently:

http://penny-arcade.com/report/article/ad-blocker-the-games-press-and-why-cosplay-galleries-lead-to-better-reporti

I've decided to turn off ad block for a while and see how it goes. If any site is too over the top with their ads they get black listed but otherwise I'm going to give the sites I use my eyeballs for their ads. I'm not saying anyone here has to do it, ad block is allowed under our forum rules, but I thought the article made some great points, especially about how lesser known games don't get covered because they won't generate revenue. I was shocked to find that Artelier Totori Plus was a fantastic RPG for the Vita but hadn't heard a whisper of it in the press and I subscribe to a LOT of gaming RSS feeds.

The freedom ZAM gives for everyone to speak their minds is pretty cool, and one of the reasons I gravitated to this site so long ago.

As admins, we also have quite a bit of freedom to say what we really feel about the games we're covering, too. I've been pretty negative in some of my long-ago editorials. We don't need to throw rose petals at SE's feet unless that's how we really feel.

Ditto... which is funny, seeing as how I can provide links to myself to show that I'm not just white knighting.

I have a feeling it's going to take a lot more than that to change the color of my name. A few years ago I taunted some folks in the Asylum into ratecamping me like it was a part-time job. (I was right by the way; they couldn't take my Scholar status) Smiley: sly

It has nothing to do with an opinion and you know it. If killua wrote that he would be slammed for it. To say something is bullshi@ like that when its how a person feels about a game is bullshi@ coming from an admin. This isn't BG's forum....

Edit: mind u I disagree with 99% of what killua writes and really could care less for him... But saying that is extremely unproffesional. My 2 cents. Laugh it off whatever, but I will be contacting the site about this. ( in b4 removal of thread and banned account)

You are an Idiot! And you are complaining about something that is first of all stupid, and second of all irrelevant, so what if wint has his own opinion about stuff ? Is 500X better than those morons in the official forum, that can only give you some scripted reply, like zombies Smiley: mad And if killua wrote that, he would of not gotten slammed :) I know this for a fact, because i have had arguments with Wint, that have gotten out of hand, and he has never ever given me a warning, or banned me, even when i questioned his credibility, which btw he did sort of do first so i did it back to him, but the point is, Wint is a cool dude, he can argue with you and not get all upset and bring the ban hammer down because he is "Admins" or whatever. And that is why a lot of people like this forums over the official or other ones. Which in essence is what makes them money ? Is it not ?

I do that a lot too. Not so much here, but definitely at work. It allows me to let off some steam but keep my job. :)

Happens to me all the time too. but the point is, that in the end, you dont lord over us the fact that you are an admin nor do you abuse your power, you just have an opinion and you respectfully argue with some of us about the game :)

No problems here so far with anything Wint said. Ridder on the other hand, may want to tone things down just a skoosh...

I can't remember the last time I got upset about something on the forum. Invigorated, even retaliatory, but it's been years since I actually felt fazed by something on this forum. Desensitization, I guess. Several years ago there were times when I would get angry enough that my vision would blur, but in that time I've come to accept that the world is full of awful people who are relatively inconsequential in their online manifestations.

I think it was OK. I do agree with him. People throw around those "but my immersion!!" complaints WAY too loosely, for just about every game, lol. I get annoyed with it too.

Generally, I turn off add block when asked nicely to do so. Like web comics - I turn off adblock, and as a general rule I make an effort to click through ads if it's something vaguely interesting. Or, I'll pay for premium on a few places (here, di.fm) or otherwise earn my ad-free experience (my Excellent karma on slashdot gives me the right to turn off ads.)

The problem is, I don't enjoy shopping as a past time. I'm a ninja shopper - in and out I go, grabbing what I need and escaping. I do, interestingly enough, peruse advertisements I get in email from opt-in companies, especially when I'm waiting for a price drop on some goodie. (Newegg's Shellbusters are fantastic for that, which is why I got my speaker set for $54.)

I have to say, I feel more fond of the ZAM community AFTER I got into it with Wint lol. Smiley: flowers It ended on a good note too. Well, he's the only down to earth admin I see. I don't know about the others, I don't trust them yet! Smiley: dubious

Watch out for that Kao jerk, he's secretly trying to take over the planet with an army of trained ninja wombats. Also, he steals your missing dryer socks to make into biofuel to power his death ray... But thats a secret so don't tell anyone
