I probably fall in the same boat Wint, but in fairness, I tend to be cynical about most things.

Well it's odd for me because I'm usually very optimistic, especially about anything Final Fantasy related. Not sure why this can't seem to hold my attention though.

I've felt the same way since 8. 11 was a fluke as far as I'm concerned

~~~Sorry I didn't see the original post!
Well let me say this.
I am a massive Final Fantasy fan. I'm one of those who will buy their crap even if it sucks? Why? Is it because I'm a sucker? Is it because I'm a *********? Is it because I'm from the midwest and we're blindly loyal? Maybe it's a bit of all those things, but I think it's mostly something else...
Squaresoft backin the day made absolutely incredible games. In fact as far as I'm concerned only 2 numbered games have disappointed me, those being X and XIII (let us not argue about X, I know some loved it, while others feel the same way as me.) Even XII which wasn't necessarily a traditional FF had all the elements that go into any great FF... character development was a bit lacking, but I really enjoyed a "more mature" story. Point being, they've made games that have created memories which I will take with me forever, they've in fact to an extent formed who I am (unless I develop Alzheimers or some other debilitating for of dementia, at which time I will promptly forget all my FF memories lol.) I think this is something a lot of us can say who have been around the Square franchise since we were younger (I'm now 28.) Even though their few previous games haven't been good, I'll always be willing to "give them a second chance." I think ALL OF US can agree with that, given the fact that we're on a message board for the official "FF XIV: A Second Chance" mmo.
As a brief aside, I personally believe the end of the "World Map" coincided with a dark fay for SE... The world map created such a nice way to introduce sidequests, and was over all a nice change up to the pace of play. Bottom-line, it just worked. XII lacked this, but the areas between cities were very nice replacements for world maps.
Anywho, I can honestly say I follow the numbered series pretty closely but the off branch titles I do not follow at all... and today I just for the first time really found out about XIII versus and I can say I'm overjoyed that I haven't been tracking this since 2006 but have now found it! This game reminds me something of the Secret of Mana title which was inspired by FF but not entirely related. If this game is released and can capture that same feeling that Secret of Mana was able to, I will indeed be a happy camper.
It's not that I don't care because I had to wait such a long time, actually I find that to be a dumb reason to not care.
The reason why I don't care is because it takes place in the FFXIII universe, and I don't really care about the FFXIII universe.
What's dumb about it? It's been 6+ years. After waiting so long interest fades and people move on to other things. It's tired news at this point and there's nothing exciting about it anymore.
If the game turns out to be groundbreaking and awesome then fine, maybe it was worth the wait, but until something substantial is released a lot of people simply won't give a ****.
"It's a delicate situation in the company"
As I predicted, the new president probably gave them an ultimatum: Put out or get out.
I think S-E has learned their lesson to not even announce games until they're ready.
FFXII was announced in 2001 and took them five years, people have their own opinions on whether they liked it or not but it was a complete game. They should have announced it when it was 2005 or so.
FFXIV was announced in 2009 and came out incomplete a year later. They made the announcement too early and released it too early. Anyone else remember the next generation MMO Rapture engine that eventually turned into XIV they announced way back in 05? And now it's already been scrapped.
Versus... well see the title.
It's better for S-E to keep silent about their stuff until it's mostly ready. I guess they learned their lesson since there's a big unannounced console game they're working on that's being headed by Hiroyuki Ito. (Director of IX, XII)
I think this game was put on hold for the most part, so teams could be moved to XIV. Not that XIV is almost out of the gate, a full team can begin putting the last half of the game out the door.
I see Bravely Default is confirmed for the US in 2014, this makes me happy. Anyone want to trade a 3DS XL for my 3DS regular? My paws are too big for my tiny 3DS Smiley: frown
Between that and the Link to the Past sequel I'm pretty much obligated to buy a 3DS now. I held out as long as I could.
Also Fire Emblem......
Because I've never heard of a game failing because they "waited too long". The game failed because when they finally released the game, it was bad or wasn't worth the half a decade wait. (Duke Nukem Forever is a good example of this.)
They should have announced the FF Versus XIII game when they knew they would release in the next year. It wouldn't have mattered to us about waiting 6+ years because we didn't know about it in the first place.
I'm really happy with mine, Mario Kart 7 is awesome, the re-release of Ocarina of Time is awesome, there are so many games I want and zero time to play any of them Smiley: frown
Square Enix... I will buy it when (if ever) it comes out
Why?
Honestly this has puzzled me for years now. People have been jumping up and down about FF13 Versus since it was announced back in caveman times. But I can't seem to figure out why.
As far as I can tell there's been next to no information about it other than that of its existence and its apparent relationship to FF13. That seems like that's pretty much it. And yet people have been drooling over it for something like 4 or 5 years now.
I'm really disgusted that Square Enix things they're big and important enough to make announcements about announcements.
Yes, you should be. It's pretentious as hell. But if you want to know why they do it, see the above lines.
It looks okay. I don't think it will be a sh*t game. The way they have handled it is totally inexcusable, unfair to their customers, unfair to everyone... just disgusting behavior all around, and this "announcement about announcements" should be proof enough that they're scumbags.
Having said that, I buy a lot of games... come release date, I just buy a game based on whether or not I think will have fun. I don't really concern myself with how it got to the shelves at that point.
Why I would buy it, specifically? It looks like Kingdom Hearts, but trying to be gritty/dark. I would rather a Kingdom Hearts 3, but what are you gonna do? Maybe in 2018 or so. Smiley: frown
There's gameplay and stuff, so it's not as if there's no information.
Ok, must have missed that when it happened, thanks for sharing it.
That at least gives me some clue as to WHAT it is. I'm a little curious about why this is a Final Fantasy, though I suppose Crisis Core had a similar combat system... sort of... not really...
I don't know... it looks like it might be fine. I've been burned by SE a few too many times to take it on faith at this point.
