About an announcement of an announcement of an announcement? Smiley: tongue

Ok, must have missed that when it happened, thanks for sharing it.

That at least gives me some clue as to WHAT it is. I'm a little curious about why this is a Final Fantasy, though I suppose Crisis Core had a similar combat system... sort of... not really...

I don't know... it looks like it might be fine. I've been burned by SE a few too many times to take it on faith at this point.

Unfortunately, Square Enix isn't worth anyone's faith or trust at this point.

I say I'll probably buy it, but that opinion could easily change as more information comes out (if it ever does). The only Square Enix games I end up buying these days are from Eidos.

I hadn't been paying any attention to it. Seeing the trailer, it does remind me of Crisis Core, which I actually enjoyed a lot.

Personally I wouldn't care if they slapped a XV on if it turns out to be good. Perhaps that would make up for the last few installments. It will sell better with a number and they could really use a win in that column, especially with no real promise of a XV already, and having been so long since the last release.

Actually they should just start doing that in general. Don't announce the title--wait til they come up with something promising and then say, "Surprise! It's actually the next in the series!"

I would rather see XV go back to the series roots, rather than release a main title as an Action-rpg.

As far as going back to the series roots, I know some are against it, but at worst it's as bad as XIII at best it makes the company look like a collection of geniuses and it puts the franchise back on top.

Also, if no one has noticed, all the MAJOR jrpgs that everyone wets their pants about when they find out they're going to be released in the US, are indeed old-school FFesque type games. Coincidence? I think not.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a numbered title.. but it'll definite sell better if it distances itself from FF13

Or do what Final Fantasy Agito XIII did. Rename itself to something else. (Type-0)

A little off topic, but this thread made me think of the game " The Last Guardian." I loved Shadow of the Colossus and ICO , and I was pumped when I first heard about the Last guardian , but a this point I'm not too sure if I'll bother buying it IF it ever comes out. It's been YEARS since they announced it.

I'd like XV to put a brake on fast paced active time battles and go back to a conditional turn based system. X's brilliant strength was that if you had to, you could put the controller down and take a phone call or run to the potty, and since it was purely turn based, you could pick up where you left off without missing a beat.

Well you could do that in the other games too. Just change the ATB system to "Wait" or if you were waiting for the turns to start, you could hit "Pause".

It's still about l'Cie. That's why I'm wondering how Versus could change to XV... it's part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, so it probably will be related to XIII, just like Type-0.

I don't know if I would call that Final Fantasy X's brilliant strength. You can do that in any game with a pause button. (I like turn based systems, but not because it gives me the freedom to go use the bathroom)

A pause button performs the same function, but it's harder to resume play in an active time game after a pause because you may not remember exactly what action you were about to perform, or what had just been performed on you. The CTB system allowed you to ponder your next move and put some strategy into what characters were in play at any given time. (Monster about to do a horrible nasty attack? Time for some Yuna summon action to tank!)

Oh man. A Tactics style game with modern graphics would be awesome.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think a lot of people do. I don't know if you mean beautiful HD sprites or a full 3D Tactics, but I would really be fine with either.

If Square Enix's next Tactics release is an HD re-release, I'm going to be upset...

I'm playing Tactics this very moment Smiley: smile, for like the 3029480329 time. At least the psp version let me feel awesome with Dark Knight. Oh, I feel bad sacrificing my Aeons lol. Smiley: sly

It's a pity what they did to Front Mission this Generation. After FM5 I was really looking forward to a current gen SRPG from SE. Maybe we'll get a FFT next gen, with this new president.

It's kind of funny that alot of the direction XIV was moving towards but moves away from now is some of the directions this game took. But this game was not the original creators of this type of battle system. No, this battle type system is a combination of many FF in the past.
-Directional/Positional effects(Various FF including XI)
-ADB(Final Fantasy XII)
-CTB control during chain attacks(Borrowed from FFX)
-Queue type system in chain attacks(Originally but poorly implemented in XIV, also in XIII)
-Gear properties(FFIX and FFVII, etc)
The only element none of these have is a skill property modifier.(Which XIV had in alpha but again poorly implemented)

Xenoblade Chronicles had a very fun system.

FFXIV ARR has some aspects of it though, such as falling damage which they showed in one of their letter lives. And the gear attachments which XIV will have in form of materia.

I loves me a materia being placed in sockets. :)

Actually I'm ok with the rumors of it being an numeral title.

If Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia were any indication, the Final Fantasy franchise will actually lend itself well to the Action RPG genre.

I think Dissidia is probably the best title they've put out since, well, Dissidia. It's been a while. Though I'm not up on some of their other acquired titles like the new Tomb Raider.
