Cat Scratch Fever
April 24, 2013

Hello!
Fernehalwes back again, and this time I've spelled my name correctly.
(Why “Fernehalwes” isn't included in all spell-checkers, I will never know.)

This weekend, FINAL FANTASY XIV and Yoshi-P will be making an appearance at Niconico Chokaigi 2 being held at the Makuhari Messe convention hall near Tokyo.

To kick things off, Tuesday, FFXIV participated in the “Business Booth Presentation Battle” where we went head-to-head with several other big companies in a competition to win approximately 10,000,000 yen of free ad space on Niconico Douga.

Bet you can’t guess who in that sea of suits was representing ARR.

Unfortunately, the power of the paw was not enough to get us beyond the semi-finals, but it was a valiant effort nonetheless. And...at least we got some great pics like this one:

/meow!

Now on a completely different note, ‘M’ and I finally received our prize for hitting the Square Enix Members Ultimate tier this year, and it is the pinnacle of awesome-sauce (if such sauce could have a pinnacle).

People told us we were crazy, but I knew buying twenty copies of XIII-2 would pay off!
Kuplu Kopo approves.

See you all this weekend!

LOL! Who in their right mind would buy 20 copies of XIII-2.. As if the first copy wasnt mistake enough! SE logic.. We get twenty sequels of 13.. Only makes sense that their employees buy 20 of each lol! They have brain washed their employees! (..I jest) Nah XIII-2 wasnt all bad. I kind of liked it.. not enough to finish it. But having a comando choco was fun :D also their little specials they could do were kinda cool. On topic, atleast now we know SE is trying to do things to save money. Like getin some good ol free advertisement to save money :0

While I didn't hate XIII and XIII-2 like most, I'm actually kind of looking forward to Lightning Returns. I now await everyone's crucifying of me Smiley: eek

Add me to the Wint's of the world. I'm very curious to see how Lightning Returns plays out. I've come far enough to see how the storyline concludes.

I also liked FXIII. However, I'm pretty sure the only reason I liked it is that I knew what to expect when I started playing it, so I was able to really pay attention to the pacing of the game and how that enhanced the storytelling. Had I jumped into it expecting another typical Final Fantasy title, I would have been disappointed, too.

I wouldn't put it in my Top 5%, but XIII certainly was one of the smartest entries to the franchise.

C-C-C-C-Combo breaker! I actually didn't care too much for 13, I'd like a return to more fantasy and less SciFi. Which is why I'm excited for ARR.

Personally I just don't know if I can push my way through XIII to reach the part where I can care about the other two. I lost my file which was about half complete and would have to start all over. I guess I need to figure out how long a speed run would take me. Since it's on rails, I wouldn't imagine it would be too difficult.

Yeah I had the same problem at first.. I got about hlaf way in and put the game down for several months. Then one day out the blue I decided to finish it. XIII-2 was pretty good though. the story is all over the place (or atleast i didnt see the route I should take).. XIII-3 ill probably give it a chance but not upon release.. maybe a little later

I played FF XIII for 17 hours or so, and was on some ship, doing something, can't remember what, escaping maybe? attacking? dunno.
And at that point i quit out of boredom.
I don't hate it, nor love it, i can't summon any emotion beyond apathy towards it.

Frankly, final fantasy franchise peaked at FF VII, and has been going downhill since.
First Final Fantasy i played was VIII, then VII, then IX, VI and X, kinda liked XII but felt it was way too short, like it ended right where the plot should have started to get really going, and XIII, never went anywhere, tried to play X-2, but didn't get very far in, did play Dirge of Cerberus pretty far but never finished that one either (was on loan from sister), was pretty fun mostly though.

Bought XIII.... Huge letdown, annoying characters (Yes vanille/hope/snow) not impress with the storyline, but it was good, i liked it more than X, then i bought XIII-2... Bigger dissapointment, i dont know i played Type-0 and it was so great, so awesome, the lore, the characters, the world felt rich, and XIII-2 was so... convoluted for the sake of being so, and the paradoxes lol horrible storyline never finished it :(

P.S: the combat system was really good, i did enjoy that.

You know, Hope was miles better in XIII-2 than in XIII....

Overall I finished XIII-2 three times within a year, it's actually pretty good :) I can't believe how JRPG lovers think that XIII is a good game.... the only reason why XIII-2 is good is that they made a well written story unlike XIII and put a lot of FF-esque ingredients into the XIII world. I still have nightmares about XIII. The pacing of the story, the hideous characters, the abysmal battle engine and leveling system, the story itself... I couldn't make heads or tails of the complete storyline until I read the synopsis in the XIII-2 menu :p

Apart from the battle engine and some vocal and violin arrangements on the soundtrack of XIII-2, I'd say it's the first proper FF since X. Yes, that's my taste of course ;)

Agreed, he was much more tolerable in XIII-2
