I am about to order XI on 360 and would like to play on a server that is pretty active... anybody know of a good server?

and can I redeem an account if it was a pc account prior? or am I looking at a fresh start? and if so was wondering if anyone wouldn't mind being a part of some sort of static for a lil while just to BS and kinda re-enjoy the game...

This would be better asked in the FFXI forum.

Way back in the day they would delete inactive accounts but after like 2005 that changes. Most like you will still have your old account and yes you can use it on the 360.

Anything else you want to know... follow this advice. Good luck.

You might be able to get your old account back. I believe you have to make a Square Enix Account and link your Play Online profile to it. You will need your 8 character name EX. "XXXX####", password, and a CD key from FFXI or any of the expansions you owned. If anything you can write or call their customer service and deal with that mess, but they will probably get it if you are diligent. Once that garbage is out of the way all you should have to do is enter the CD key you get with the 360 version you get on your SE account and it'll add whatever expansions you're missing. I stopped playing around 06-07 and then started back up again around 2010-2011 and still had all of my stuff, even the 20+ items I had in my mailbox from my alts.

I would strongly suggest you get the PC version if at all possible, however. It will run at max on pretty much any computer/laptop built in the last 6-7 years. All you need is a $10 CORDED USB controller and you are set. The use of Windower and Add-ons makes the game so much more accessible. There are addons that will give you unlimited macro lines, and some that if you are programming savvy can automatically perform gear swaps and ability uses whenever you perform certain actions. Also, a friggin pet Status bar! /drool. Oh, and lets not forget the IMPOSSIBLE TO GAUGE Blink-Me-Not addon. Now a days people gear swap so much that it makes targeting/healing nearly impossible. This sexy, kinky, voluptuous addon stops yourself and other characters from vanishing when equipment is changed.

The game does look like a steaming pile of eft-refuse on PC without some serious code tweaking, but Windower and the out of game options can get it to look pretty close to PS2 and I'm assuming 360.

At max settings on PC, the game looks FAR better than it does on PS2. Believe me, I played both for several years and can say that without the shadow of a doubt. Tweaking the code using windower and config options certainly made it look better on PC, but even without it was leaps and bounds better than what was possible on PS2.

On topic, I think pretty much any of the servers at this point should be pretty active. There aren't all that many, and there are still a good amount of people who play XI, so I don't think you can really go wrong.

Maybe it was just my couple experiences with it, but the scope of default resolutions and settings couldn't come close to the crispness I experienced with the PS2. This was especially apparent with Buff/Debuff Icons and Item Icons. Granted I do agree that the game most likely looked better than on PS2 after tweaking Windower, I couldn't say by how much as it has been years since I've played it on my PS2. With Windower I was able to get it to "look like the PS2" to me, which was most likely even better, but that was my goal... Although I could never seem to get weather effects to display like they did on the PS2 or 360 version.. I think I ended up turning them off anyway as they dropped my FPS a bit on my old laptop.

Hmm, not really sure why you had graphics issues on the PC. Even at default settings on my PC the game looked better than it did on my PS2. I just remember when I finally converted over and thinking, why the heck didn't I do this years ago? Then tweaking it with windower just made it that much better (although still pretty poor by today's gaming standards, considering it's a 10+ year old game).

Also, on PC they let you oversample to double resolution within the congif (no more messing with the Registry) and have HD text over your head. it does a bit to not look SO outdated.

With Windower you can yank FFXI up to true HD resolution, but even the game's native config tools have been updated to greatly improve the screen resolution. They've also added an option to configure the menu resolution independently of the 3D graphics, so you can have HUGE LIEK PS2 menus in the foreground with a supersampled 2048 3D background, if you really felt like it.

And now I have to get windower...

I didn't want to be troubled by it and was "dealing" with the framed windowed version but...

I keep my XI sub active, but I haven't logged in much. I should probably think about cancelling it again.

I resub (relapse more like) every few months and play for about a month before dwindling into cancellation again.

The newest expansion is very endgame heavy, so if you're a returning subscriber who quit at 75 cap you can probably hold off on Seekers of Adoulin until you've played for a few months and decided whether to stick around or not.

(I mean, I've played the game continuously and I'm totally behind in the new content. I'm 3/6 KIs into Delve, haven't even tried skirmish, and just scratched the service of XI's version of the FATE system, battle reives.)

Yeah, I left at the 90 Cap, returned last week and it's like... I got some work to do. My friend left at 75 cap, returned, and people are handing him free gear saying "Lol nice Koenigs."

And I thought my gear was outdated...

I just returned after quitting when the cap was 75. Lol Rapparee Harness >.> Went from being a full-time endgamer to "¿Què?" on everything. Just got my THF to 99 last night and bumped him up to TH5. Need to get my SAM and BRD up and then I plan to try some of the new stuff besides Abyssea. It's quite overwhelming, to say the least.

But in a great way, somehow. I know I have no plans to play ffxi during XIV, but weirdly that doesn't stop me from standing around for hours waiting for fire weather to complete a magian trial...

Agreed. I'm ion the process of trying to cap my merits on the new THF WS, selling all my old low-lvl gear (that stuff is worth quite a lot now! And WOOT for inventory space) and getting my Raider's gear upgraded. And enjoying almost every minute of it.
