I see your point, yet mine still remains. If they make Versus XV, and don't announce a new numbered part of the series that no one has ever heard of before the announcement, I will be disappointed.

So? It's the title of a game. The diction doesn't have to make sense. There are games called Um Jammer Lammy, Ninja Hamster, Divine Divinity, and Tactics Ogre. None of them are good names, nor do some of them even make sense. You realize there is a TV station that is just called Versus, right? Versus what? Who really cares!

If the game is good, does the title have to make sense?

Tactics ogre actually makes since, since the series name is Ogre Battle, but that title was a tactical one....

It was actually in reference to the diction that Atkascha mentioned with FF Versus. I personally don't give a crap what a game is called if it's good. The "even worse name" was referring to "Let us Cling Together"... which is a pretty bad subtitle.
