I enjoyed my time in XI as a Tarutaru BLM so I'll be the XIV equivalent. THF was my secondary job so my fingers are crossed in hope they add THF in XIV.

I was a mithra DNC in XI and a mi'qote BOT in XI so I think I'll be doing something different, lalafell MDR...there's something appealing about someone that resembles a walking teddy bear swinging a big a$$ axe Smiley: grin

I know for sure that I'll be making a Miqo'te Pugilist, and plan on going for Monk ASAP...but I dunno the gender yet XD

I plan on using Puglist in the beta Phase 3. If I love it, I'll do that for Monk. However, I think I want to do Paladin. So, I'll save Gladiator for release.

I'm glad that I took the time to level every job in FFXI. I'm a jack-of-all trades kind of fella in RL, and thought I would just take a similar approach to my first MMO. I began as a RDM, and after taking that to 18, and doing the SJ quests, I leveled additional jobs I thought looked fun. With some of the worst advice ever committed to paper, courtesy of the Brady Guide (which I still have) I began to learn each job, experimenting with different job/subjob combinations. Looking back, the vast majority are too embarrassing to mention.

Flash forward to 2005, I re-up and get a new job, new girlfriend and most importantly a new LS. Crack-cocaine is introduced on the mean streets of Bastok, and I'm hooked. I've become completely hooked to the XP. My goal: Maat's Cap. I loved the grind. The horrible PUG's haunt my dreams to this day. Leading parties and changing jobs to fill gaps by members leaving. Learning just enough Japanese/French/Spanish/German to recruit at all hours of the night. Carefully cultivating business relationships with crafters/farmers/NM Hunters via my Friend's List. After all, I was leveling everything as fast as possible. Anyone who played back then should understand how long this took.

I was obsessed.

All of this changed when I started my first of 20 AF Quests. My dreams had, for months, been entirely about FFXI. I was printing off strategy guides for various builds, NM's, party combos, xp spots, to read during my lunch & breaks, when I came across this mysterious place called "Sky". The Holy Grail was rumored to be there. All the Lore that I'd read during the billion cutscenes I had sat thru referenced these "Gods". I had to fight them...and win.

FML. I apologize for that. Its late and I've been drinking a bit.

tldr: Jack of all trades will happen again. I'm hoping that I get just as hooked as I did to FFXI. Male Mi'qote Archer to start then methodically work my way across every class & job until I'm ready to fox with the Holy Grail again. If anyone bothered to read all of that, it is much appreciated.

Cheers

I used to play ffxi until the Abyssea expansions came out. Have always been main black mage as a Taru. I loved the job, but later on the game, I wished I picked another class because of the lack of detail on the Taru model gearwise, and the lack of some stats compared to other races when it comes to melee jobs. Maybe the lack of HP was the biggest issue holding me back from picking up a real melee job.
Yes, I know you could easily play a melee Taru and that the stats didn't really matter in the end. But I'm considering to pick up FFXIV, and I was wondering how much racial stats matter in XIV, compared to XI (or how important racial stats will be in ARR)? Because my plan would be to again play as a lalafell BLM, but knowing I'll probably feel the urge to bring some variety in my playtime later on, would the choice of a lalafell hamper the abilities to function as a melee DD? Again, besides the racial stats issue, another reason to switch from the taru race to another one would be the increase in visual detail on gear...

thanks for the feedback!

^ Racial stats are very minimal in XIV compared to XI. I believe Yoshi has said he has no plans to change this.

In XI I started off with monk, as that was my fav on Tactics along with Calculator (sidebar: they really need to find a way to do this job), but found my way to Ranger which i completely fell in love with. I loved pulling, the damage dealing and soloing to harvest/mine. Then I would send my materials to my mule to synth which i dang sure wont be doing this go 'round. Not to mention i also had a character that i was developing as a mage which my now wife then gf used to play.
So this time first off i'm def going to use 1 main character DoM Arcanist, DoW Archer harvesting and crafting in my down time, tho from what im reading it looks like I'll be lvl my fighting classes inbetween crafting and harvesting which is peaking my interest. Also this time I'll have an extra char just for the wife and kids to play.
Did i mention I love pulling? How was pulling in the previous versions 1.0 etc?

I'm really tempted to make a male Miquote just for fun and name him Tiga Lee as an homage to BoF2.

I'll be focusing on Warrior.

I started 1.0 wanting to level monk, hence the name (Coolhand Lou) but found that I just love Warrior too much.

We'll have to see how Summoner is though, because Pet Jobs are always my favorite.

I'm probably going to go with a tank class to start out and follow up with a ranged casting class.

1st post Long time reader! Hi! for the last couple years I have planned for a Male Roegadyn Warrior/Marauder. Of course I will max them all.

Welcome to the site Strife! Marauder class does sound like a lot of fun, I can't decide if I want to go MRD or PLD yet for my tank class. Are you going for crafting/gathering as well?

I'll be diving straight into SMN and (more than likely) my gf will be starting out a Scholar. Those are the jobs we settled on in XI last time we played. Even if SMN is broken as hell or pet mechanics aren't great I do love me some Carby, so I'll push through it and hope it gets balanced out quickly.

Undecided on race though, probably switching to male Miqote, but lately I've been thinking about switching to Elf.

I hope Arcanist is good on it's own. I don't have a whole lot of interest in Summoner. Having carbuncle and using geometry to cast spells sounds fantastic by itself!
I plan to level Bard as a side job and to add some utility to my line up, with Monk as my melee class. This way I'll have ranged caster, support/ranged, melee dps.

In XI I was Taru... I wanted so badly to be a Lalafell... unfortunately they aren't nearly as cool looking as the Tarutaru. So I'll probably go Elven.

Probably, I don't know much about the crafting system since I didn't do 1.0 but I'll do fishing.cooking if it's like XI was and if it's different I'll do everything at some point.
