I'm also from Chicago. With no servers designated for central time, I usually lean toward the east coast because it's marginally closer. In this case, if the data center really is in Montreal (which may as well be on the east coast), it doesn't make much difference.

The baseline fee for the game enables people to have a character on every server. So no loss there.
I'm an Altaholic so I'll probably have several characters on different servers. Probably going to keep "Hyrist" on Midgardsormr, where he originated. But I may also hold off on rolling him until they've got fencer/red mage out.
Ultros wins my heart for sure. I'm not a legacy player but I did play at the previous game launch. I have a renewed interest recently, and joining a linkshell formed by members of one of the most pleasant fansite/forum around sounds good to me. Hope to see you all around soon.

Hmm, since Ultros seems to be winning in both of the polls for the New server, why don't we just designate that as the ZAM non-Legacy server? Plenty of ideas have been thrown out there for how to deal with the different time zones. There are only two server locations, in Japan and Montreal. I was under the impression we'd have a couple of servers located in each time zone in the US. That's not the case, so how about we consolidate into the most popular server choice here?

I second this.
That's not a bad idea actually. Since there's only one datacenter for the entirety of not-Japan, it might make more sense to unify the east and west coast communities, at least as far as Zam goes.
So you'd be left with US-New, US-Legacy, EU-New, and EU-Legacy.

I definitely like the idea of having both East and West coast together on one server. Some east coaster might stay up late.
I also like the idea of separation of legacy and non-legacy, but then again, why doesn't everyone wanna play together?

Well, we don't have a choice. Legacy players cannot port their 1.0 characters over to a new server.
I'll make my new character on the ZAM New server, but I will have to leave Catwho on Balmung.

Well, can make my new char on Ultros. I believe my legacy char was also on Balmung. Hopefully I can find a new shell there as my last two ended up disbanding towards then end of 1.0.
Okay, since the Legacy EU server is obviously Ragnarok, what about for the new EU folks? I was thinking of rolling on Odin to be around the different languages I speak. I wouldn't mind making a ZAM LS for the EU folks here that plan to start with a fresh character...if there are any.

Every few days a new poll will be posted by a designated pollster. The poll will start with a list of all the servers available that ZAM members would be willing to play on. Ever 3 days, or 5, or even a week, the server with the most votes gets removed from the list and a new poll will be made with the remaning servers. Eventually there will be on only one! That last one can become the ZAM LS server. It'll be like Surviver, sans any immunity of course.
It's fairly annonymous and everyone can have say.

My vote is for Excalibur- As the majority of my LS has voted to go there (and I just checked.. the world is still revolving around me). I only moonlighted on the ZAM linkshell on Rabanastre for a few months. It was during the "ugly" days of XIV and there were never more than one or two people online..It seems a fair amount from Durandal have also chosen this server has the destination
